Cards Hotter Than Coffee

*cards in hand, coffee is ready and so am I for a new Cards Over Coffee*

*takes a sip*

2023 has started off hot in terms of additions to my collection and knocking off some cards I have been wanting for quite some time.

There have been some great 90's inserts and NY Giants cards I have knocked off the want list, but a lot of my bigger cards I have crossed off have come in form of non-sports.

Such as Zendaya's rookie card. I haven't ever watched the newer Spiderman movies, I am still stuck in Tobey Maguire days, but maybe I will finally watch them some day. Spiderman is my second favorite superhero.

Everybody Loves Raymond or should. There were two versions of this card to get, Jets or Giants, I think I made the better choice here. I was a big fan of his show growing up.

NO RESPECT! I feel ya somedays in the blogosphere Rodney. Easily one of my Top 5 favorite comedians.

Burt Reynolds autograph. This has been on the list for awhile now and it felt great to knock it off.

The Fonz! He also takes his time on his signature and it's great.

Let it go. Let it goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! If that doesn't get stuck in your head the rest of the day I did it wrong. I am not sure why I felt I needed this, but I did and it's a 1/1.

The first Caddyshack movie had such a great cast with Murray, Chase and Dangerfield that the second movie couldn't keep up. Oh, and these two were a big part of the cast as well.

I have John's autograph, why not add Joan too.

And yes, you are seeing that right, I added not one but two more Chevy Chase autographs to my PC of him. Now I have three and multiple relics and am beyond stoked about it.

And finally, a new relic for my Wizard Of Oz collection. I have the Scarecrow swatch and now a single hair strand from the Cowardly Lion. My hope next is to land the Yellow Brick Road relic card

Not pictured is a 1/1 Barbara Eden Leaf Pop Century autograph.

Like I said, I added some amazing non-sport stuff recently and I think you guys can see that.

I even just drooled out some coffee just seeing them again. Not on the keyboard or cards though, they are safe so no worries.

Thoughts on my additions, your favorite card from the group are welcomed in comments.

Time for another cup of coffee and to get on with my busy day.

Happy Weekend!

Zenith

Coffee and a blaster box to open....what can make this better? Oh, that's right, my asiago bagel with jalapeƱo cream cheese. Now I am ballin' out as some would say.

I picked up this Zenith blaster about a month ago and I am just finding time to sit down and open it.

This is the first time since Panini brought back the Zenith brand that it was offered in retail form and from images I had seen, I was pretty happy to find a box.

Each blaster comes with 6 packs of 4 cards each. There is also one autograph or memorabilia card per blaster and blaster boxes are $27.98 each. Which isn't bad with a guaranteed hit.

The base card design sticks with the Zenith feel. They were always known for a football related background. I think visually, these are fun. Still won't ever top the 1996 design, but what ever matches it's 90's counterpart? Not even my coffee!

I really wished they stuck with the base card design for the rookies or came up with something more creative than the word rookie in the background.

I did pull this guy though, it made me happy.

I pulled three Red Zone parallels. Red Zone was a parallel that was in the Playoff football brand line. But, Panini decided to axe the brand and must have crossed over some parts of it to Zenith.

Then came the inserts which was a mixed bag for me.

Pacific looks and feels cool, it's a thicker card, but feels out of place in this product.

Same goes with Thunder and Lightning which was brought over froim the Playoff product. The card is beautiful, but it's a meh feeling in this product.

And speaking of beautiful cards, they nailed this Revolution card. But, once again, it doesn't feel right in this product. Revolution was a standalone product in the 90's like Pacific above.

There we go! Finally a real Zenith insert! The card is also very thick an a lot more shiny than it is showing on here.

And last,

My hit which I expected all along to be a relic and it was. Russell Wilson who I actually like as a player and person, was my pull. I am fine with it even though he had a really rough 2022 season but I expect a bigger 2023 especially with a Coach Payton in place.

Overall, I liked the product. Even though it felt like a better version of Chronicles. I hope to open another at some point.

Good breakfast, good cup of joe and a fun break. Couldn't ask for a better Thursday.

Your thoughts on this product welcomed in comments and also let me know your favorite Zenith brand design over the years.

I need to finish my cup and grab another cup.

So....

Unfinished Cup: 1995 Skybox Impact Countdown To Impact

I don't do this enough, and I am not talking about setting down the coffee mug because that's not going to happen (takes a sip), I am talking about putting focus back on finishing up some of my unfinished sets.

There are so many I am close on, some even with one card to go! But, for some reason or another, when I actually have funds available, I don't put the focus on doing so and instead end up putting the funds somewhere else.

Which doesn't ever help finish up any of my projects.

Hobby ADHD is what I like to call it.

But recently, I did put a little focus onto a few of my sets. I didn't finish them, but I did close it down some.

One of those sets is from 1995, my big explosion year into the hobby.

I will introduce you to 1995 Skybox Impact Countdown To Impact.

These inserts fell 1:20 packs of 1995 Skybox Impact.

They aren't the most eye appealing inserts looking back on what the 90's brought, but they appealed to me and I opened a ton of Skybox Impact that year so I already had a start on this set.

The cards feature a number stat that the player on the card accomplished. The number is also embossed, the cool part of the card.
Card back discusses the number reasoning. Emmitt's is 76 games to rush for 7,000 yards.

Along with adding Emmitt, I also added Drew Bledsoe.

Now just down to Troy Aikman (C4) and Steve Young (C3) to finish up this very long set chase.

If you have them, let me know! Just drop me a comment or email to sportcardcollectors@hotmail.com. I am always up for a trade.

Thoughts on this set welcomed in comments.

Other than that, I need more coffee and time for this blogger to *Coffee Card Blogger Out*

Sluggin' It

*coffee is ready, I am ready, let's do a new Cards Over Coffee*

I have stated this multiple times, but I don't collect a lot of baseball cards anymore as I am mainly focused on football collecting these days.

Which is odd since baseball was a big part of my collecting when I first started in the hobby.

But, that doesn't mean that I still don't collect some.

I still add Ken Griffey Jr cards when I can. I still add 90's inserts whenever I see them. Aaron Judge and Derek Jeter cards are always welcomed and I recently dove in deep and added to my Jasson Dominguez PC.

Here are my latest additions of the Yankees slugger who is having a great Spring Training.

And my first autograph add of the slugger :)

It's Leaf, but hey, I have one and this one sparkles.

I may not be sluggin' it with baseball cards as much anymore, but I do enjoy my pickups more because of that since they are more specific than football that is everything.

Thoughts on my latest adds welcomed in comments and I would love to hear if there is a sport that you used to collect more of but have dropped off from since.

Hope you have a coffee filled Tuesday.

How My 40th Went

"Every Day That Starts With A Cup Of Coffee Is A Good Day"- Me

And that's exactly how my 40th birthday kicked off yesterday with a trip to Dunkin'. I don't get any of those fancy drinks, especially being someone stuck on decaf, so I usually just get some mocha swirls which is good enough for me.

My trip then took an even better turn with more coffee and a local diner breakfast with a sample of everything. IT WAS SOOOO GOOD and way beyond filling. I actually didn't eat another meal for the day.

The trip almost went further, but then came the snow squalls where you couldn't see anything so the trip ended and I went home to open up some gifts from the Mrs.

First up, a new Giants hat. These are always welcomed in my eyes. There were also a couple of personalized non sport shirts too in the same bag but I kept this post to just sports for today.

Next up came the wax. A blaster box of each 2022 Donruss football and 2022(3?) Bowman Chrome U football which I busted immediately.

Here are the key results,

The Donruss didn't provide me with too much excitement. It was nice to add a couple new Giants to the collection.

Donruss 2002 throwback insert of Terrell Davis. I never mind adding a new TD for my collection.

Franchise Future of Amon-RA St.Brown who looks like a solid player for the Lions.

Production Line insert of Mark Andrews.

Now onto the Bowman Chrome where I had more success. Though I don't understand why Topps called this 2022 despite it having 2023 rookies. But, it's nice to see Bowman Chrome football again and now it has at least college logos again.

Anthony Richardson Bowman 1st. One of the top QB prospects in this year's draft.

Caleb Williams silver parallel. Another one of the Top QBs in this year's draft.

Cade McNamara Pink parallel. Can't go wrong with pulling the QB's in this years strong draft.

And finally, a really nice Purple Mini Diamond Parallel /399 of Will Levis. Another one of those QB's that should go in the Top 10 if not Top 5. These fall 1:98 packs.

I really like the Bowman Chrome and look forward to seeing this back when they get NFL logos.

And there was the end of the wax.

But, don't worry, my day wasn't quite over yet.

Later in the day my mother-in-law dropped off my homemade Carrot Cake and it was superb!

I only had a small piece since I was still getting hit hard with that breakfast, but a sample was so worth it.

And a sample right now as I sip my coffee and put up this post is just as great :)

Before I close up today's post, I wanted to thank all of you who reached out to me on Twitter, Facebook and on here and wished me a Happy Birthday. I appreciate all of the love.

In comments today, let me know your favorite kind of cake or your thoughts on the cards.

Have a great Monday.
