Maybe it was just a pre-2000's thing, but I always felt high school teachers came up with teasing names for some of their students.
I know I had one.
Mr. Angel who not only was my freshman football coach but he was also my gym teacher created the name Big Hoss relating me to a horse because of the way I "galloped" because of my height and size. So anytime he met me in the hallway or when I got into gym class I was always greeted with a "Big Hoss" whether I liked it or not.
I can't say if I did or didn't. I guess I must have meant something to him if I got a name I looked at it.
I assume with today's culture you can't create such names anymore.
When Nine Pockets blog, who creates some amazing customs, offered up a free custom to a reader, I chose to get a surprise Seinfeld one because why not. When the card arrived last week the first thought that came to my mind was the Seinfeld episode The Library where George's gym teacher called/teased him "Can't Stand Ya!" using a play on words from his last name.
Don't remember any nicknames (other than Fuji) that teachers used... but one of my Little League coaches called me "Speed Demon", because I was slow. I ran with it though.
ReplyDeleteI'll give nicknames to some of my students, but I make sure they're okay with it. Like you pointed out... in this day and age... you've got to be careful.
Speed Demon. I think I had a classmate named something similar because they ran slow
DeleteNine Pockets makes some great customs. I didn't take PE in High School. Happy Friday all!
ReplyDeleteAgreed!
DeleteI do not recall any such nickname. I think if I'd had one it would have been kind of traumatic to be honest.
ReplyDeleteI have run into that teacher a few times since. Luckily he doesn't remember what it was. But, I always will.
DeleteIn college a professor called me "the big O" which was only weird because he was the only one using it. So if he saw me around with others and said it, they'd just look at me like, what is going on?!
ReplyDeleteOh boy, that's not a fun nickname....lol
