Let's Just Chat

 It's close to 8 p.m. where I am and I had a few minutes to put up a post, but don't have any cards to show off.

So, let's just chat.

Today, I got to watch my NY Giants break my heart and lose to the New Orleans Saints despite a desperate comeback late in the fourth quarter. They are still 3-2-1 and in first place at this point. How long that lasts this season time will tell.

But, I am still excited about the effort they are putting in this year and I think giving them another year they could be a contender.

Also, I held my third Open Gym for basketball preseason yesterday. There were 19 girls signed up for Open Gym, only 6-8 have shown up every week. Despite the lack of girls, the lack of talent wasn't missing. There was two sixth grade girls who have never played before that picked up on stuff I coached really quickly. It's a great feeling as a coach to see this and know that I have a hand in this.

There are still two more preseason Open Gyms in October left, then there will be two-a-week starting in November and the teams will be placed together by December 1st. In November, I have a training and a coaches meeting with the Athletic Director as well.

The fall semester for college hasn't been fun which has what has been contributing to my lack of posting and hobby in general. I have two A+ at this point and one A. The A is in the Intro to Earth Science class that has been so tough. It takes me six to eight hours to do the work for that class and it has been complete torture. I hate it. It drags me down on a weekly basis and I still have a long nine weeks left with a huge project at the end.

And finally, tomorrow will mark my wife and I's twenty-four year wedding anniversary. It doesn't feel that long but it has been. Crazy to think how fast time has gone by and how much has changed in those twenty-four years.

My Kind Of Unboxing

There are a lot of people who like to watch unboxing videos, I am not one of those people, but I do like unboxing stuff and when I get a message from long time reader and friend Grady M that something was on it's way, then I know I must get ready mentally.

Because he always sends the fun stuff.

I received my latest Grady Box for unboxing over a month ago. I have unboxed every box but have not had the time to sort it out and get pictures ready for the blog. The cards remain in the boxes still.

For now the best I can offer all of your eyes is the top card viewing. But, believe me, when I get to actually post from these, your eyes will be exposed to some amazing stuff. Inside of these boxes are base, inserts, and fun stuff galore from all over the sports world and some non sports.

For now, just take a sneak peek. A very minimal sneak peek.

This marks Post #902 on this blog and I am drawing a blank today. But, I really wanted to get a post up.

So, I have my coffee, came up with a lame blog title and now will show off a couple cool cards to help fill in a post for today.

RIP Penny. It was nice having you most of my life. I will never understand why they got rid of the penny, but it still has a place to me. Just like losing Pluto as a planet, it's still a planet to me.

 

Space is cool to learn about and all, but would I ever want to travel it, probably not. But, these astronauts got to on a 10-day lunar fly-by mission so that's awesome. I just like space cards to be honest. It's also why I wanted to take astronomy before they threw the whole needing to do more math thing at me.

That does it for today's filler post. Hopefully next time I pour a cup and have some coffee I will have more to talk about.

I am so, so close.

Since I have been back on a 90's kick recently and really wanting to finish up these sets, I decided to throw an update post (I already did an unfinished cup on this one) for this set as this is the closest one I have left to finish up from the 90's before I try to look at others. 

Also, this one ranks up there as a set I really want to complete. I have the 1996 Spx and 1998 Spx basketball and this is a need to finish up the trifecta! Not too mention, it's one of my favorite 90's base set designs ever!

 

Here are the remaining cards I need, the ones not crossed off,

Cup of Coffee #900 (well not really, I have probably had that this year)

The #900th time I have had to say....*sits down with cup in hand, smiles at the celebration post, takes a sip*.

If you were to have asked me if this blog would have made it this far, I would have doubted it. Most of my secondary blogs I have created have either died off immediately after or I have given up on after a year or two. But, for some reason or another, this blog continues to live on and now I have reached yet another milestone on it.

I was hoping to get to #1000 by year's end, but I doubt that with the upcoming basketball season and a lot of college work this semester.

So, let's just celebrate #900 with a few new cards.

Swingin' Into The Postseason

The baseball post season is on, so I figured why not show off some of my latest baseball cards thanks to a trade with long time buddy @90sNicheFBCard.

I am sure many Yankee fans will agree, this guy needs to retire. But, I will still welcome a shiny card of him.

This is THE MAN. Despite the Yankees smelling it up against the Rays so far, Ben Rice has still been the bright spot.

I always wonder what if Aaron Judge actually stayed healthy in his career and how many records he may have broken? Same feeling for Mike Trout and Ken Griffey Jr.

Just in case you didn't know this was a Topps card....

Who is this guy? That's what most Yankee fans are wondering now. It wasn't too long ago he was the most wanted prospect, now he has fallen.

It looks like to me that Aaron was planning on playing all season but he counted his chickens before they could hatch on that.

Besides Jeter and Judge, I will welcome all Ben Rice cards to my PC. I don't collect as much baseball as I used to, but these three Yanks I will take all day.

I know I have said this before but I will say it again for those who didn't read it the first time, Roger was one of my favorite pitchers of the 90's who I used to try and imitate, then he got messed up with the 'roids crew and I lost all respect.

Now onto the greatest player with the greatest swing ever to hit a baseball diamond.

 

I have been staring at one of these for months, was so excited to see this pop up in the package. Though I prefer 90's for my Griffeys, when one looks cool like this I will obvious take it.

Another one I have been needing.

This one here was a wonderful surprise! Shiny, /199, and throwback. Couldn't ask for more.

The cards featured above wasn't all he sent either. There were more baseball cards but there were also more football cards. The only way you can see those is if you are following my football card blog, Big Blue Cardboard. I will be posting those there at some point. Some really fun stuff mixed in that group as well.

Bryan always sends a lot of fun and variety in his mail days. I had a feeling when it magically appeared in my mail box that it was going to be spectacular and it was. I hope to send you some stuff soon in the Christmas mailings I need to get out this month.

If the Yankees fail to come back from down two games, I will at least have this cards to look at that got me swingin' into the postseason.

It's Not Always About Sports

It's not always about sports. 

I also collect a ton of non-sports and probably this year alone, I would say I have almost acquired more non-sports than sports.

One of my latest trades came on X from @CalvinThomas88. He and I pulled off a trade already earlier this year and just like that one, I sent him stuff he wanted (Cubs inserts) and I got exactly what I wanted, these,

My favorite relic of the group, Nelson Mandela. I cannot tell what this swatch is, but I just really liked it.

My collection of non-sports will only continue to grow over time. I am actually working on a big trade right now for a key card for my PC. One I have wanted for awhile and hopefully have enough remaining trade bait to pull it off...because it's not always about sports.

BBA:We Had It All The 1990's

Back in the 90's, we had it all in the hobby.

We had the most innovative cards. We had lots of legends and Hall Of Fame players to collect, some of which we will never see the likes of again...yes I am talking especially about you Michael Jordan. We had price guides to price our cards. We had checklists inserted in packs to help us set collectors, some of those checklists were even apart of the set. We had coaches, cheerleaders, and even refs in our sets.

We had it all.

Today's cards will have nothing on what I enjoyed then. That's why I am focusing a lot of adding cards from that era. Maybe even finish some long time sets that have been sitting around.

So, I created this Blog Bat Around to see what era of cards you liked, why, and some new additions you may have added from that era.

I have many to show and will let the cards themselves do the talking. Good luck making a case against these. Maybe some of you will even agree and I will get to see even more awesomeness from this era.
