Monday Thoughts With Matt

It's Monday. Let's not let it bring you down.

I just want you to grab a cup of your favorite warm beverage in your wife's mug, or your own,
then walk over and sit down in your most comfiest chair, take a breath, relax.

Let's just talk in this NEW segment.

Today, I just want to talk about your feelings on the rumor that Fanatics/Topps might be buying out Panini America and your thoughts about the ramifications that may have on the hobby.

I believe that any one company running the show for any type of business is bad. It gives the consumer no options, higher prices, lower quality products, and less innovation since there is no competition to drive those things. Not to mention the overproduction that Fanatics has done since taking the Topps name.

I think this kind of move will be terrible for the hobby. It's bad enough they are monopolizing the main three licenses (football is soon and sorry hockey guys, hockey isn't a top three sport in the hobby) and now if they buy out the last big competition they have left, they will rule it all and the downfall of the hobby could be on it's way.

But, that's just my thoughts.

Take a sip, another deep breath, and give me your input below. I will be curious on your thoughts.

Now it's my turn to sit back, relax and take a sip to read your replies.

I Pity The Fool

I Pity The Fool who doesn't read this post.

As soon as summer ended in early October this year, fall moved by fast and now I feel like we have reached level four of the yearly Jumanji with winter already.

I just can't believe how fast this year has flown by. It has flown by so fast that I found myself finding cards or in today's case an item that I never shared with you guys that I acquired this summer but had in the drafts on here.

Now it's finally time to share it.

I Pity The Fool who doesn't get to see it.

*takes a sip from a fresh brewed cup*

Early this summer, along with the other trades I pulled off with my father, I also landed a pretty cool piece for my non-sports collection.

This is a Mr. T and The T-Force Tri-Folder. It's packed with a few unique items that I guess were distributed to comic book shops in the 90's.

Inside letter with information on it.

Another flyer talking about the comic book behind the paper..

And then behind that was this autographed copy of the comic book that is also hand numbered. I guess he autographed a bunch, looks like 10,000, first edition copies that went out to comic book stores to help promote the comic. This is a really cool piece.

However, makes me wonder how long it took him to sign that many pieces MT. Reminds me of today's NFL rookie autographs.

I have no idea how my father got the item, but I think he knew who to trade it to once he got his hands onto it.

There are two more pieces that go to this including a Certificate Of Authenticity which I have but however the special edition card I did not see with mine. I guess that will have to be added to the want list at some point so I have the set.

*takes a sip before pittying the fool who didn't bring coffee to view this piece*

I had never heard of the comic book until I got this piece, not that I am a big comic book nerd to begin with. But, I am a nerd overall with the comic book characters.

I will say that I have not looked at the comic as I am trying to preserve it from getting ruined especially the autograph. I do need to find a better way to save it from any elements down the road.

Today, let me know in comments if you have ever seen anything like this and what your favorite Mr T role was even if it was a commercial. Mr T was everywhere. Mr T for me came from The A-Team.

Just comment below!

I Pity The Fool who doesn't comment.

5 Things I Did In The Hobby Last Week

 HELLO FELLOW COFFEE CARD ENTHUSIASTS!

*takes a sip*

Another week has come to a close and last week I felt I did the most I have done in awhile for the hobby. As I have figured out a better balance to my life and hobby life I have found myself spreading thin all around but I am finding time for everything at least last week.

*pauses with a sip, then continues on*

This series has done well on here so far and I love reading the answers and interactions from you guys on this post. Keep it up!

But, for those of you that are new to it, here is the background to this series:

This series is once again related/played on by Elon Musk's email to government officials in February 2025 asking them about what five things they did.

Also, once again, this is not about politics. I just liked the idea.

*its best to never post politics, make friends, not enemies*

Here we go onto my five things.

1.As always, I did a lot more social media posts across my planet of them. I started doing Rodney Hampton, Eli Manning updates along with small mail day posts on there since it's much faster to send out a social media message than putting up a big blog post.

If you want to catch up on stuff you missed out on, here is a list of all of my social media channels:Cards Over Coffee YouTube Channel is for cards:

Cards Over Coffee - YouTube

Matt's World Of Fun YouTube Channel is for everything else:
Matt's World Of Fun! - YouTube

On top of this, I have two Facebook accounts, Cards Over Coffee and Sport Card Collectors,

Twitter/X: Coffee Card Guy

Instagram account: Coffee Card Guy

Bluesky as Cards Over Coffee

There you have that. Now go check me out on those!!

2. I finally did some sorting!! That's right. I took one night for an hour and busted through a huge box of cards that have been needed to be sorted since June!

I still have more to go in Step one of my sorting process, but it's a start!

3. I opened up some wax! I don't want to share any pictures yet on the pulls or which products I opened, there will be a series on it and the final post to the series I will need your guys opinions on what and how I did. I will also say I didn't buy this wax, they came to me another way. Which is why there will be a series.

4.I pulled off a couple more pwe trades. I haven't gotten the cards yet in the mail so those posts are still to come.

5. Some more Christmas piles have been added to. I just need to find the time to get these in the mail box and on their way out. It's very time consuming to pack these up.

And there you have it. Five things I did in the hobby last week.

I hope to keep this series going when I have time to post on it.

*takes this posts final sip*

Have a Super Saturday and in comments, tell me five things you did in the hobby last week or make a comment on mine.

MIL Strikes Again!

While I wait for my wife at the dentists office, she is getting a tooth pulled, I brought my laptop and connected to my hotspot so I can finally create a new post.

It may not be the most ideal place to do a post, but finding time to do one is what matters. I also need the distraction while I sit here. I hate the dentists.

*looks up for a second to see only one person sitting in the waiting room* *good, they won't think this person jamming on their keyboard excited about pictures of people on pieces of cardboard isn't weird*

One of my last posts I shared how my mother-in-law found some cards and an autograph football at an auction, this time she strikes gold again when she went to a yard sale.

This is a decent size stack of 9-card pages filled with cards. I am unsure what she paid for these, but some superb stuff within that fits my collecting profile.

Kick it off with some 1992 Topps baseball.

A nice mix of baseball including some Pucketts.

Anytime I find 90's Finest and then 90's Fleer Metal Universe base, it's a win.

A couple Clementes

Griffey! I am pretty sure I have this one, but still, it's Junior!

Middle row of 90's inserts. Those are gem finds to me.

More gem finds here. 90's Pinnacle Mint, Puckett and Griffey Dream Team and Prism.

Another slide show! Cool!

Now onto some football. This page has a 90's insert already in the top corner for the PC.

It's still so hard for me to see Mark Brunell in anything but a Jags uniform.

I will have to see if I need any of these for my base set.

Brunell rookie!

90's Emmitt Smith insert with some shine. Not sure if it's a tough find or even has value as I haven't looked it up yet, but still a pretty cool find featuring one of the NFL's greatest running backs.

And we finish this up with one page of basketball that was randomly in there but it has Patrick Ewing, so that's a plus.

Overall, another solid MIL strike!

*sees wife coming out of the room so hurries up to finish up the post to get out of the dentists office*

Well, let me know your thoughts on this latest find from my mother-in-law.

In comments, just tell me which five you want to go. The ones with the most votes will make it. The inductees will be announced in the next few weeks depending on  my schedule but I didn't want to miss out on doing this. I feel once again turnout on the nominations was weak again this year, but let's see how the voting goes and that might make a difference if this returns for 2026 or not.

Let your voices be heard below!!

Sip on that coffee and think it through as only half of these will make it. There is a lot to take in for considerations for these cards. The look, the value, the stories, etc. Make sure you put together all of your thoughts before casting your final vote.

Thanks you!

The Great Card Cleanse Of 2025 Part 3: The Basketful

Good Morning!

It's been a couple of months since I last updated on this project of hauling and cutting back on my collection and today's is a doozy!

I have been realizing for quite some time that I have waaaaaaayy toooooooo many autograph and relic cards just sitting around that have no meaning to me other than taking up space.

So, what to do about that....well...every year I mail out a big box (he hits me back as well) to a former blogger and he runs an eBay store and what better gift than the gift of cards to sell.

This year, I will be giving him all the ones I don't need. Well not all, more on that in a second.

Along with that I will send him some personal items as well I have picked up throughout the year so it's not completely impersonal.

I have been adding when I have time all of the goods to this laundry basket.
First picture was this one taken about a month ago.

And just like that, it grew like the laundry you don't want to take care of.

This will take me awhile to pack up and sort out and I still have one more sport to go before I can do that.

Oh, and touching base back on some of these cards, I am pulling out some baseball autographs to pwe trade to readers of the blog knowing that most of my readers are baseball card collectors. I will have a tab at the top of the blog with all of those and what I would want in return. These are lower end autographs I don't mind sending pwe.

I will update that in a post when I get them listed on here. It may take a little time as expected.

I have more to go with this cleansing project but so far, I have emptied many, many boxes of stuff. It's been so great to clear up space and just keep the cards that I need and not so much hoarding anymore.

As always, thoughts are welcomed on my project and would love to hear if you have done anything like this before.

Don't forget to drink your favorite beverage as you comment and hope to see you back for the next part...and the next post.

5 Things I Did In The Hobby Last Week

HELLO FELLOW COFFEE CARD ENTHUSIASTS!

*takes a sip*

I have been trying to set aside some time to put up new posts and it seems to be working....for now. I am in the final stretch of my first semester so I may need to stay focused to get to the finish line which is December 15th with no break in-between.

Yes, that means doing homework during Thanksgiving week.

I also have a busy life and basketball has started as well so a lot of things to do in such little time. I will say the first open court gym practice we had with all of the 3rd/4th grade girls in the district went really well and I see a lot of potential in this group regardless of who I actually get on my team at the end of the month.

It's been a challenge to say the least to balance everything out, but, I am holding my ground the best I can.

I was actually even able to do five things in the hobby last week and here is what they were,

*pauses with a sip, then continues on*

I have only done three posts in this segment so far because I have been too busy to do this on a weekly basis, the last one was in June, but I wanted to let you know what this series is about if you don't remember or if you are a new reader.

This series is once again related/played on by Elon Musk's email to government officials in February 2025 asking them about what five things they did.

Also, once again, this is not about politics. I just liked the idea.

2. I finally was able to update some numbers on TCDB and add new cards to a few of my collections.

Jaxson Dart

Victor Cruz

3. I started work on getting together some WNBA cards to hand out to my girls when the basketball season ends. It was a big hit last year and I think it's another way to grow the future of collecting.

4.I started to initiate some pwe trades and even a bigger trade for a card I want pretty bad. Let's see if I can pull it off.

5. Some Christmas piles have been added to. I just need to find the time to get these in the mail box and on their way out. It's very time consuming to pack these up.

And there you have it. Five things I did in the hobby last week.

I hope to keep this series going when I have time to post on it.
