Coffee Break:2022 Donruss Baseball Hanger Box

*gets today's post coffee ready for this blog and takes a bite of bagel. takes a sip and gets this one ready*

Note: Cover your eyes if you don't like Panini baseball...

BECAUSE I DO!!

Yes, you read that right. I love collecting Panini baseball cards especially Donruss regardless of all of the logo photoshopping.

Every year I try to get my hands onto some Donruss and this year I landed a couple of Hanger Boxes so far. Fortunately for me, it's not a flipper friendly product.

Let's see how I did.

*takes a sip, begins to rip*

Every 2022 Donruss Baseball Hanger Box comes with 50 cards which is a lot of base, 6 holo orange parallels, 2 diamond parallels, another parallel and a couple inserts. Each Hanger Box is $15.98.

This years base card design had a redo compared to past versions. It's much more up-to-date and has a 3D appeal.

Back of the base card shows stats for one year and a small writeup.

The base set features players from past, present and future.

Diamond Kings

A retro Donruss design. I am kind of sick of these just like I am with Topps 1987 designs. Let's just make Donruss a product of it's own, no more throwback designs are needed.

and of course plenty of Rated Rookies.

There are 280 cards in the base set to collect.

Now onto parallels which Donruss offers the following,
Holo Blue, Holo Orange, Holo Pink, Holo Purple, Holo Red, Independence Day, Liberty, Yellow, Red /2,022, Career Stat Line /500 or less, Season Stat Line /400 or less, One Hundred /100, On Fire /75, America /50, Presidential Collection /46, Voltage /25, Artist Proof /10, Press Proof /5, Number One 1/1, and Printing Plates 1/1.

Independence Day parallel was the bonus parallel in my box.

Then came the Orange Holos,
My first Orange holo parallel was FIRE!! Doesn't get any better than this!

Then my others. Looks like a couple of Tigers that will be making their way to a new home.

And now the promised Diamond Parallels. Both of mine were inserts which by the way is my favorite part of Donruss,
The Hit List has 12 cards to collect in the set.

Elite Series that has 12 cards to collect as well.

Inserts also have the following parallels,
Diamond, Pink Fireworks, Rapture, Vector, Silver /349, Blue /249, Red /149, Gold /99, Green /25, and Black 1/1.

Both inserts looking great again this year. I still want to pull an Unleashed and especially a Marvel. Those look cool.

Thoughts on my break today welcomed in comments. Another break of Donruss baseball coming up tomorrow and hopefully it will be as good as this one.

Enjoying The Ride

*takes a sip, gets ready for a new Cards Over Coffee post. I hope you are excited because I am. takes another sip, stretches fingers out, and begins to work some magic...well hopefully*

For the first time in the history of this blog, this may be the first week where I have a post every day. Of course, my memory is bad so I may have done this already on here and can't remember without back tracking two years of posts.

I am not going to do that, so let's just take my word.

So far, this blog has been a fun ride and I am glad we are cruising together on this ride.

There have been some bumpy parts in the road where it almost crashed, but I managed to swerve back onto the road again and here we are.

*takes a sip*

Along this ride I have met some new people including a reader named Oren who has been one of my most consistent traders the past year or so. When we are ready to pull off our next trade, I look forward to getting his email to see what he has found for me. The list is always a great mix of stuff and a year later I think he has me pretty much narrowed down to what I am looking for.

Our latest trade proves just that.
I consider announcer cards non-sport cards. So this one of MLB Network host Christopher Russo just that.

I never watched My Three Sons, it was way before my time, but I do enjoy a new mini card for my non sport collection. I also say that Golden Age was a very underrated product.

I have no idea what this card is depicting, but I do know it looks super cool in-person. Lots of shine and it goes right into my non sport collection.

Gladwell is a writer for the New Yorker, I am a writer for Cards Over Coffee. Same I think.

Once again, not anything I recognize on this card, but it's a cool hologram and it had me. I tried my best to capture this, maybe I should have used my lightbox, but it looks better in-person anyways.

Up next, Oren was fortuante enough to go to 90s con, what a dream that would have been, and picked up a few things for me while he was there.

These X-Men puffy stickers bring me back. It reminds me of the stickers that the teachers from my graded school used to reward students with.

The stickers are from 1991, which makes them about five years old or something like that. They are individually packed but they may have been cut and packed by the seller. Hard to tell.

These were super rad both from my 90's nostalgia standpoint and in general.

Thanks again Oren for the trade!! Can't wait to see what you come up with next.

*takes a sip before finishing up today's post*

I hope all of you have been enjoying this coffee card filled ride this blog has been on. There's lots more to come including bringing back some other segments as well.

Comments on my mail day welcomed below!

Eating A Bowl Of Apple Jakes

*takes a sip. sits down to a bowl of cereal...yup you read it right. not a bagel. takes a bite of raisin bran, gets the ole bowels working, takes a sip and gets ready for a card about cereal*

I have seen a lot of cards in my lifetime. Many I wished I owned and some I do. Then there are others I haven't ever seen or discovered yet which is why I read card blogs and follow certain social media accounts knowing one of the days they will post something that would interest me.

When my buddy @90sNicheFBCard tweeted out a Brett Favre card that resembled a Frosted Flakes cereal box, I had to inquire what it was since I hadn't ever seen one.

Come to find out, it was a 2000 Pacific Prism Fortified With Stars and that it was a 10-card insert set that fell 1 in 97 packs.

I NNNNNNNNNNNNNEEEDED ONE!!

*takes a sip before moving on with the post*

The insert line featured a variety of cereals olays off from a player's name. There is Peerless Price Krispies, Tyrone Wheatleys, and Frosted PlaxicO's to name a few. All matched their specific cereal boxes.

*speaking of cereal, need to finish my bowl before I do more on this post. I LOATHE soggy cereal. It's like eating a banana with a brown spot on it. ripe banana and crunchy cereal only!*

*takes the final bite. moves on with post*

I wanted them all, but didn't have the funds, so I chose the cheapest one I could find at less than $4.
Apple Jakes! Featuring Jake "The Snake" Plummer.

Players facts and Try Them All!

Great looking insert and fun play on words. Right up my alley! Just ask my wife how many jokes I make about using play on words in songs, magazine articles, etc.

Thanks for the heads up on these Bryan. Now I must have the set!!!! The rest of you can go and hunt down Prizm while I chase these. Or even some guy named Tom Brady that came out of the base set, leave these inserts for me.

*takes a sip before finishing up today's post*

They sure don't make cards like they used to. Whether those were mid to late 90's inserts or the ones from the early 2000s like today. Creativity has gone down the drain and cards are just being pumped out to sell regardless of how they look because they know most will buy and not care as long as they can make money.

That's not me.

If any of you have these available for trade, hit me up at sportcardcollectors@hotmail.com. Always up for a good pwe trade and I have plenty of stamps right now.

*thinks the raisin bran is working so needs to end the post*

Coffee Break:2021-22 Bowman University Football (Double Case Hits??)

*sits down and gets today's post coffee ready for this blog*

For the first time since 2016...TOPPS FOOTBALL IS BACK!!!

It's been a long time coming for this blogger who misses the good ole days.

The only difference this time with Topps football, is that there are no logos and no veteran players. You are looking strictly at prospects (players who haven't been drafted yet) and rookies for this upcoming NFL season.

Either way, I was quite intrigued by this product and I am excited to open a box up after passing on some retail.

Let's check it out together,

*takes a sip, begins to rip*

Every hobby box of 2021-22 Bowman University football comes with 24 packs of 4 cards. It's set up sort of like Topps Chrome used to be for football. Each box comes with 2 autographs and prices currently run $150.

BASE:
The base set has 100 cards using the same design as 2022 Bowman baseball.

Card Backs

It appears that each player has a 1st Bowman card and a prospect card in that 100-card set. My guess is 50/50 split.

Just like with Bowman, there is a Chromed base set as well. The only difference between this and Bowman is that every chrome card is a base refractor. There are also 100 cards in this set as well and fall 1:6 packs.

PARALLELS:
There is also one other thing different between this product and Bowman baseball and that there is not any paper base parallels.

However, there are still Chromed ones,
Pink, Shimmer, Purple, Aqua /299, Blue /199, Fuchsia Mini-Diamond /150, Lava /100, Green /99, Green Shimmer /99, Yellow /75, Gold /50, Gold Shimmer /50, Orange /25, Orange Shimmer /25, Red /5, Red Shimmer /5, Black Shimmer 1/1, and SuperFractor 1/1.
Shimmer

Nice one right here with Matt Corral!! Panthers have been needing a QB and they found him in the 3rd round of this years draft.

INSERTS:
Most inserts have the following parallels,
Aqua /150, Orange /25, and FoilFractor 1/1.

Golden Boy has 15 cards to collect and this falls 1:8 packs.

Bowman Invicta comes to Bowman University as well. These fall 1:12 hobby only packs and have 20 cards to collect.

2000 Bowman Set. No Tom Brady, but could see some of NFL's brightest play with the 2000 Bowman design. There are 30 cards that fall 1:6 packs.

Big Kahuna is a case hit falling 1:288 packs! John was a pick by the Texans who have been needing some WR depth.

HITS:
Jerome Ford Bowman 1st autograph. He was drafted by the Browns in the 5th round.

And...a second case hit??? Falling 1:388 is this Big Kahuna autograph of Marvin Mims that is numbered to 150. He could be a big time WR in the future for whomever drafts him.

OVERALL THOUGHTS:
This was a good time to be honest. Looking at all of the other unlicensed football products out there, Sage, Leaf, this one is by far superior over those ones.

Big Kahuna card looks really cool as most case hits do and I really like the thought of the 1st Bowman inclusion in football. However, just wished the checklist was a bit deeper or maybe get some veterans involved. I don't think there should be a prospect and 1st Bowman card unless its for a following years release. Since this is the first one, all of the base set should have been 1st Bowmans.

This break actually left me wanting to break more and I might if I spy some retail again.

Thoughts on the return of Topps football is welcomed in comments below.

Coffee Break:2022 Bowman Baseball Hobby Box

*sits down and gets ready for another product review post on Cards Over Coffee. there are still other pre-published posts of these to come*

It's no surprise how hot 2022 Bowman has arrived in the hobby knowing how the hobby is turning into a money grab with everyone looking for the next big thing to flip.

For me, I just enjoy Bowman to find the latest rookies and possible future Hall Of Famers for my collection. I have been collecting rookie cards since I started collecting. It's just a fun PC.

So, let's see who I pulled in this hobby box break.

*takes a sip, begins to rip*

Every hobby box of 2022 Bowman baseball comes with 24 packs of 10 cards. Each box guarantees one autograph and boxes currently run $280.

BASE:
The base set design is the typical Bowman look. This years I feel could have transferred over to a flagship Topps design as well.

There are 100 cards in the base set featuring veterans,
And rookies.

Along with finding veterans and rookies in every pack, you will find yourself also submerged with prospect love with a mix of paper prospects and chrome versions. There are 1st Bowman, the most popular line, and regular for both.

There are 150 cards in each of the paper and chrome prospect base sets.

Fushia /299

Blue Refractor  /150
Blue Shimmer /150

INSERTS:
Most inserts come with the following parallels,
Atomic /150, Aqua /125, Gold /50, Orange /25, Red /5, and SuperFractor 1/1.

Bowman 3D! falls 1:18 packs and has 20 cards to collect.

Bowman Invicta (future product preview?) has 25 cards and falls 1:18 packs.

Bowman Scouts Top 100 has well....100 cards and falls 1:4 packs. Excuse my lack of cropping on this photo. My OCD is eating me up on this one.

Virtuosic Vibrations has 20 cards and falls 1:8 packs. Beach Boys Good Vibrations immediately comes to mind here.

Hi-Fi Futures comes with 25 cards falls 1:4 packs.

Rookies Of The Year Favorites falls 1:8 packs and has 15 cards to collect. I get such an 80's vibe from these, I dig it.

HITS:

1st Bowman Chrome autograph of Creed Willems. I don't know who this is...lol. This is also a Speckle Parallel /299.

Keep in mind with the autographs, that there are also some veterans mixed in to pull as well.

OVERALL THOUGHTS:
The fun thing with Bowman is that you can't decide if you got your money or back yet. Right now, it may not be pretty. But, if you give this box break a couple of years, who knows?

I will say I liked this years Bowman inserts as they have been jazzed up some. I also like the fact that Jasson Dominguez continues to make an appearance in the product for my collection. Now I just need to track down the prospect chrome.

Thoughts on this years Bowman design and overall product welcomed in comments below.
