Sketch'd

*coffee is ready and so isn't the newest post for cards over coffee*

*takes a sip*

Before I start with today's post, I would like to reiterate that I am no artist. I cannot draw. I do not have the talent of some the brilliant artists we have in the blogosphere who can create amazing pieces of cardbaord art. So, please be kind.

One of the two summer courses I signed up for was Drawing 1. Each week we are assigned a drawing either done with charcoal, pencil or pen. There is always a theme to the drawings as well. This week's theme is charcoal and was graphic design/logo, Fantasy or Abstract. Since the other two are not really my strength, not sure what is yet haha, I decided I wanted to draw a logo for this blog.

After many attempts, this is what I created and turned in,

Not my favorite, but it's not the worst thing.

Before I turned that one in, I came up with this one and sent this one in as well. This was more of a rough draft compared to the first one which was my piece to be graded.

Neither are going into an art museum, but I am wondering which one is better and why, and which one should I attempt again when this class is over and try to make it a final logo?

Let me know in comments!

Hope everyone has a super Saturday!

  1. These are very good. I don't think I could do something like this as my art talent is lacking. I like the first one especially if you were to add the word over as it is part of your blog title. It puts me in mind of a logo you would see on a can of your favorite brew. Thank you for the savings code. It might come in handy. Enjoy the rest of the weekend. It's going to be a hot one here in central Minnesota.

  2. I enjoy drawing, but it's definitely not one of my strength's. I love the idea of taking an art class. When I retire, I'm planning on taking classes at the community college. Art, photography, and history are at the top of my list.

As for your logos, I like the detailed shading on the first one. The mini cards on both logos are a nice touch.

    1. It has really been a fun class to take. I really want to take photography as well for one of my electives.

  3. Good job. I like how you angled the coffee mug slightly rather than just have the handle off to the side.

  4. I like the first one (shaded background). I find its a cleaner design with the circle bordering the words and mug, as well as the cards on the mug rather than seaming off into thin air
