You Think Friday The 13th Is Scary....

You think Friday The 13th is scary? I am more worried about March The 19th of 2023.

*takes a sip*

On March 19th of this year, I am turning 40 years old.

40.

It doesn't seem possible, especially since I have a mindset of a 12-year-old.....though a body of a 60-year-old.

Since I will be turning a big scary number this year and the fact, I know I am getting older, I recently took an eBay gift card I got for Christmas and turned it into something that would make me feel young again. No, I didn't buy a magic youth potion from Yzma, those of you who watched Emperor's New Groove will get that reference, but I did buy something that would take me back in time.

And yes, I wished it had been a DeLorean but what I got will have to do.

*takes a sip before my coffee gets old from sitting here*

Even though these literally can't really take me back in time like the DeLorean could have, these can nostalgically.

I picked up some unopened 90's packs from my favorite time of collecting, 1995-1999, for a rip-fest. I am really looking forward to it.

Included in this pile is,
  • 1997 Upper Deck UD3 Football (4 packs)
  • 1996 Laserview Football (3 packs)
  • 1996 Press Pass Premium Football (1 pack)
  • 1996 Pinnacle Select Hobby Football (1 pack)
  • 1995 Signature Rookies Autograph-Phonex (3 packs)
A good mixture and all I had opened at one point in my youth.

I plan on posting the results from the packs in a new segment coming up soon. Right now, it's going to be called Turning 40 but the name may be adjusted before I post the first part. Let me know in comments if you have a better name.

*takes a sip before finishing up today's post*

I know many have said 40 isn't that scary or that old, but I guess I will find out in March. There is no turning back time, even if I was Cher.

Thoughts on my packs and if you have something scarier than Friday The 13th coming up for you this year

Thank You Readers!

It's a bitter cold January day, but I have my coffee in hand, and I am ready for a new post on Cards Over Coffee. I hope you are as well.

In December, Nachos Grande Blog hosted the 2nd annual End-of-year end awards where you could vote on the best of things both in the hobby and in the blogging world.

There were seven categories overall this year and those were split three for the hobby and four including Best Blog Of 2022 for the blogger world.

In the back of my mind, my hope was that Cards Over Coffee could pull off the massive upset and beat out Night Owl Cards for Blog Of The Year. Well, that didn't happen. For the second straight year, the GOAT of card blogging won that award.

However, that didn't mean that this blog didn't have its impact as made three of the four total categories.

Winning in the categories of Funniest/Most Entertaining blog, Favorite Under The Radar Blog and

 Favorite Blog To Read.

Even though I didn't win the big one, I was still happy with the showing for Cards Over Coffee.

I tip my mug to you guys for voting for me in these awards. I am proud of the content I put on this blog and glad to see some appreciation for it. Maybe next year I can win the big one, though I know it will take a lot to do so.

*tips mug towards the computer*
*cheers*

Before I close up today's post, I may not have won Blog Of The Year, but for the first time I did win the Fantasy Football Championship in my league.
I had a pretty dominant team all season, except towards the end when injuries started taking their toll. It was finally nice to win it all in the league I created so many years ago. So, I had to take a minute out to pat myself on the back with this post and an invisible trophy.

*takes a sip before finishing up today's post*

Once again, I wanted to take a minute out to thank you guys for voting for me in the End Of The Year awards. It truly means more than you know.

Thoughts on the awards or how your fantasy season went is welcomed in comments.

New Year's Hobby Goals

*sits down and gets ready for the first post of the new year, coffee is in hand, takes a sip and gets ready*

Happy New Year! Welcome to 2023!

*takes a sip and says cheers*

*pictures you doing the same*

Since this is a New Year, most people try to set up some New Year's Resolutions, you know that list of things you say you will do, but don't. I know, I have been there so don't throw you coffee at me.

This year instead of resolutions that I probably won't stick to, I just wanted to set myself a few hobby goals. Goals I figured was better wording.

*takes a sip*

Let's start with Goal 1,

Which is getting stuff sorted that has already been sitting out. I did get quite a few mail days at Christmas time that need to be sorted as well, but really need to tackle these first which in itself will take a while.

Goal 2,
Combine my boxes. I slacked a little and started some new boxes so I wouldn't have to dig for old ones. Well, I finally need to combine them all so cards are easier to find and have all of my sorted collections in their rightful place.

Goal 3,

It's time to put the cards I once had in binders such as players, rookies, etc back into the binders. After I did my big sort a few years ago, I kept most of my cards in boxes. It's time I put them back into binders so I can locate my players and rookie cards easier. Maybe even move my Giants collection into binders as well.

This may only look like three goals, but together, they are more than that. It will be quite a lofty project.

*takes another sip. aiming to finish this cup before I finish this post*

As an extra side goal, I want to continue blogging. I have been back and forth on whether I wanted to continue into 2023. With lack of products to break. less mail days and a lot less trading, this is leaving me with not much to discuss on here. I will have to dig deep to continue on along with finding a final resting place to blog on and stick to it.

*takes a sip before moving ending today's post*

I hope everyone has a Happy, Healthy New Year and I plan to give updates as I go along with my projects.

In comments today, let me know your Goals or Resolutions for this year.

Coffee With Mandy Moore

*takes a very excited chug...this post and item has been a long time coming.*

*takes another sip*

My latest mail day from Shane from Cheap Wax Wednesday fame came with such a big collection item, I carried the box home from my mailbox like Gollum saying, "My Precious".

I barely made it through the door before ripping into it.

And there it was. My second most wanted autograph sitting right there. I couldn't believe it and now I want you guys to believe it.

*takes a sip before showing off the item*

Since 1999, I have been a big fan of Mandy Moore's music and acting and may have had a crush on her as well.

I have added a couple of cards of her over the years, she isn't featured on many, but have always wanted an autograph for my collection. It serves both as a fan piece and a nostalgic piece.

When I saw that Mandy was releasing a new CD. I checked it out and noticed that if you pre-ordered it, it came with a very special item.

A signed art piece!

With Shane's assistance, I was able to get one.

Such a great item!! This goes up there with my Elton John add this year.

Thanks to Shane for the assistance on this piece.

*takes a sip before finishing up today's post*

In comments today, let me know your favorite Mandy Moore song, movie or TV show spot.

Mandy, if you are reading this, thank you for signing these for fans and keep doing what you are doing!

*takes a final sip*

2022 Cards Over Coffee Hall Of Fame Cards

*sits down in a tux with a pile of cards to present the winners for the inaugural year. let's get to some cards over coffee*

*first, lets take a sip or two*

Well, the inaugural edition of my Hall Of Fame didn't quite go as well as I had hoped. A lot of commenters didn't nominate any cards to be voted on. There were plenty of cards I thought that should have been voted in but didn't make it, at least in your opinion, or maybe you simply forgot to vote. I mean, that Griffey auto I added recently really should have made it.

So, this led to only four cards being nominated which meant no voting needed to narrow it down to five. This means that all 4 cards have made it into the Card Over Coffee Hall Of Fame.

*takes a sip before presenting the winners*

Here are the 2022 Inductees and who they were nominated by,

Nominated By myself

Nominated by Jafronius

Nominated by myself, Matt, Oren, Fuji

Nominated by Jafronius

Congrats to our Winners and thanks goes out to those of you who nominated.

I haven't decided if I will bring this back for 2023 since the reaction was so poor. If I do, I may change a few of the rules and make things easier. Maybe even post out reminders.

*takes a sip before finishing up today's post*

Let me know in comments if you would like to see this back and how I can tweak it so you would join in more.

Have a great day!

Chasing Chevy

*sits down after a long Christmas day, gets ready for new post on Cards Over Coffee*

*forgets coffee on the counter, how is that possible?, gets back up gets coffee, adds some leftover non-alcoholic eggnog as creamer and sits back down*

*takes a sip*

When I think about Christmas, I can't think about Christmas without thinking about Chevy Chase.

National Lampoons Christmas Vacation is not only my favorite Christmas movie, but my favorite movie overall. And Chase, who I grew up already been a fan of, is lead.

For me, it only made sense to make Chevy a PC in my collection.

Up to this year, I only had an autograph card and some relic ones in my collection until I decided it was time to add upon that after doing some research and finding out he has plenty of cards out there.

251 to be exact.

*takes a sip before moving on with today's cards*
One of the first adds I did, was the Super Glow Blue base card. I thought this card looked really cool.

Next up, Chevy was featured in many of the 1992 Star Pics SNL cards. I have all but one of them now.

Weird thing is, despite being a big fan, I never once watched him on SNL. I wasn't really into SNL. I still not a big fan now but do enjoy a couple of the sketches I will watch time to time.

I need to add the final SNL card at some point.

Up next, a couple of 1994 Comic Images Boris 4 featuring two of Chevy's movies in art style. The top one is of him in the comedy Nothing But Trouble and the second one features him in European Vacation.

And my favorite adds and ones I considered to be his rookies, 1988 Hostess Hot Summer Flicks Stickers from the Funny Farm movie,

Pretty cool finds. I didn't know these even existed.

*takes a gulp to finish up the cup, gets another cup ready and takes a sip of eggnog then puts some eggnog into his mug for creamer again*

There are plenty of other Chevy cards out there that I need to add that are non relics/autographs, but there are also lots of autograph/relics I don't expect to ever add.

I currently reside as the #1 Chevy Chase collector on TCDB sitting 4 cards ahead of second place.

Thoughts on my adds and your favorite Chevy Chase movie/show is welcomed in comments.

Have a great day!

It's Christmas!

*sits down, takes a sip with some newer Christmas cards to post nearby. the spirit and joy of Christmas is in the air and I am ready*

It's Christmas!

This means many things to many of us.

For me, it means the birth of my Lord and Savior Jesus. It also means spending time with my family eating a big breakfast and sharing gifts and love. And finally, it means the end of Mariah Carey's reign of terror on the season until next November.

I know we all feel the last one.

I am technically not blogging this live today as I am as I stated spending time with family, but other than that, another thing that I do on Christmas day is open up card packages I had gotten for the month. One of my favorite openings every year is my massive mail day from Wes from JBF/Area 40 blog fame, which I always save for last.

Even though I won't be posting this year's cards yet, I have been holding the cards I will feature today in drafts for a whole year waiting for this post.

*takes a sip and gets ready to show off the cards*

One of the most iconic Christmas cards to collect I believe is this 1998 Upper Deck Holiday-Worn Jersey of the man himself Kris Kringle. This was very unique for the time it was released. This was a very exciting add.

You're a mean one! Not talking about Wes either. Somehow, he must have known I wanted this card since I had already added the autographs from the set. Is this in a weird way Jim Carrey's rookie?

I don't care if you put a piece of pizza on a prism card, always shines.

I hadn't been able to land this card last year as it was a part of Panini's Black Friday set in the past. Glad to have this one knocked down finally.

And finally, after penning all of those letters to Santa over the years, he finally gave me an autograph in return.

Thanks again to Wes for the mail day of Christmas cards.

*takes a sip before finishing up today's post*

Merry Christmas to all and to all a good cup of coffee.

In comments today, tell me what you hope to see under the tree.....other than coffee of course.
