Layered Part 1

*coffee ready, takes a sip before doing a big post for today*

I assumed you have noticed by now, but I have added some posts on Sport Card Collectors to help me catch up on all of the drafts I have here. By putting up some quicker posts on SCC, it allows me to put more emphasis and time on the posts that matter more which are the ones I post here.

Not that some cool cards aren't being shown off there too. So, maybe check them out.

But being able to do some "quick" posts there will help me catch up faster here. Those quick posts though will be the last ones on that blog so enjoy them while you can :)

Now I want to get to today's post which will take a couple of posts in order to accomplish posting it all.

*takes a sip*

Jon from A Penny Sleeve For Your Thoughts contacted me a couple months ago and started to ask me about certain cards and if I would be interested in them still. He has read my blog long enough, and been a friend long enough, to know that I would be.

He told me at some point those cards would hit the mailbox and they most certainly did.
I didn't know what to expect in this box other than the few cards he mentioned in our emails back and forth.

After opening the box, I discovered that there were many layers to what he sent.

First, I came upon this note and surprise within.

Then layered with another note with more surprises.

And another layer under that with an even bigger surprise.

The more I dug through the layers I uncovered and found more exciting items.

There was such a mix of sports, 90's, non-sports and non-card items.

Keep in mind I am not posting everything that he sent. That would take many, many posts but instead I decided to post a taste of everything.
I didn't even know they made Gargoyles cards. It was a popular show but wasn't in my Top 10 favorites, I did watch it though.

I almost saved this card to post on Halloween, but I didn't.

Robin Hood Prince Of Thieves trading cards.

On sick days at home from school, I always put soaps on in the background until 3pm when Disney Afternoon came on.

I am not sure what these are, but love the images. I may use some of these for a Halloween post instead.

Jon obviously has read my blog and saw that I am a huge dinosaur fan. They were my jam before sports.

Speaking of of Dinosaurs, I always made sure to watch this. "Not The Momma!!"

I recognized this face immediately, it gave me "nightmares" as a kid. Yes, that's Robert Englund. Cool addition to my Horror nostalgia pc.

Then I found these two. They are the reason I got into writing and am still writing. I grew up wanting to write horror because of these two, but instead I write about pieces of cardboard with pictures. They are still the ones who influenced me here.

Thomas Edison. Inventor. Me Coffee Card Guy, Coffee Drinker. We are the same.

I don't know what this card is, but it's one of my favorite non-sports from the box.

Then I went all Happy-Happy Joy-Joy when I found these two in the box. I was a HUUUUGE Ren and Stimpy find. I was to Ren and Stimpy like kids are to Spongebob now. Saturday nights with SNICK couldn't come fast enough.

My favorite superhero. "I'm Batman"

I never watched Under The Dome with all of the shows I was already watching at that time, but maybe I should now. This is a pretty cool die-cut.

By now you are probably wondering what the other items were in the box...well...this was the first layer. These art cards came from The Dark Knight rises. The Dark Knight saga is probably the best Batman movies ever made.

And at the bottom of the box....

Yes!!!!! My favorite Darkwing Duck episode ever!! All the villains, all the heroes. all face off! This is sooo cool!! My childhood was split between Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and Darkwing Duck. This is a great add to my DW PC.

And there you have Part 1 of my mail day from Jon. I told you it's a lot and there is still a lot more to go
This is what I expect your faces to look like right now. In awe over what you have already seen and curious to see what's to come.

Part 2 will be posted soon.

While you wait, just soak in what you already saw and....

Don't forget you can start to nominate cards for the 2025 Coffee Card Hall Of Fame!! Cards don't have to be autographs, patch cards, super star cards. It can be whatever you think is Hall Worthy! Find details and current nominations HERE.

Out Of The Blue

*coffee is ready and hot, so isn't today's mail day show off*

I know in my last post I hit you guys out of the blue (definition meaning completely unexpected) with the news of this blogs upcoming retirement, for which I apologize for, but I just feel it's time.

And it's not just because of the views and comments, it's more about life.

Life comes first and it has kept me on my feet all year and hasn't slowed down. It's time I start to slow down some and use moments that I spend doing this for important ones.

With that being said, let's get to today's post or what we can call Cup #1 of the final 12 left.

*takes a sip*

I also received something myself out of the blue myself from longtime friend and Cards Over Coffee reader, Oren.

And that was a superb mail day.

Especially when I open up a package and it's loaded with unopened non-sport packs.

Which included packs from my favorite Batman movie, Batman Returns. I also really like the Dark Knight series to. I believe there were four packs to open and open I plan to!

Batman will always be my favorite super hero.
My sister loved The Little Mermaid movies and cartoon series growing up. She would pretend to be Ariel and attach a long thing of toilet paper to her pants and pretend that was her fins. My parents didn't have money for anything better than that. These will serve as a fun memory to those days.

The Truth is out there. And it's that I dig getting these X Files trading cards.

I really look forward to opening these two as well.

I don't know who this is, but I like adding cards like this as I learn who they are.

Topps Chrome Black and Star Wars is a great combo. I would love a Darth Vader card like this and have it as a refractor to...I bet that is stunning!

And my final card, well cd-rom, is of Wally Szczerbiak. I miss the days companies would think outside of just the regular card box. Upper Deck was always known for their innovation.

Thanks goes out to Oren for another fun mail day. I am looking forward to kicking up our trading again as I have a stack and some stamps ready to go.

I hope you have enjoyed today's post ....out of the blue.

*takes a sip before finishing up today's post*

Also, out of the blue the last couple of weeks especially, I have had some lymph nodes in the left side of my neck (front near adams apple and back of neck to) swell up without any explanation of why. So, this will lead me down a new path as I am waiting on a call to set up a catscan with dye to see if they can figure this all out. All I can say is that it's very uncomfortable at the moment.

As I said earlier in this post, life has really thrown some lemons at me this year.

I will keep an update on this as I know more.

I hope everyone has a great weekend.

Batman And The Tasteless Coffee

*sits down, takes a sip of flavorless and scentless coffee*

*cards nearby, time for some cards over coffee*

Just in case anyone on here was wondering where I went after a two-week stint of posts on and off, I caught Covid.

My wife first caught it from work from a co-worker, she's a nurse at a pediatrics office so surprised more stuff hasn't come home, and obviously being in the same room/house as her it was only going to be time before I caught it and I did. I have had Covid twice before and it was rough both times. This time it was a bit tamer except this time I have the aftereffects. Just when the cold portion came to an end, I completely lost my taste and smell. My coffee is like hot water. My nose couldn't tell I was washing the bathroom yesterday with bleach. There is nothing and it's driving me nuts. I just hope it comes back; I know some never get it back.

Just adds to my 2024 year of an ongoing country music song.

*takes a sad sip*

The bright spot of the last week was a mail day I got from fellow blogger Johnny's Trading Spot. The mail day included some cards from the 1966 Topps Batman set. One of the coolest vintage non-sports sets ever made.

Being a huge Batman fan, these were superb adds to my collection.

These move up on my favorite Batman cards I own list. Always wanted to chase this set, but most likely impossible. I do have other Batman sets I want that will be easier....I think.

Thanks Johnny for making a dull week bright.

*takes a sip of nothing before finishing up today's post*

I hope I get my taste and smell back soon but from Google and a few replies on Twitter/X, it sounds like I have a few weeks to go on this.

Have a great Tuesday.

On Point

*sun is out for the first time in a week as it glistens between the curtains and blinding the computer screen. gets up and shuts curtains full to see despite wanting to see the sun that hasn't appeared in over a week.*

*grabs cup of coffee, brews it in keurig and sits back down. takes a sip, coffee is on point this morning just like the mail day about to be shown*

*takes another sip*

I love mail days, but who doesn't? But, I really love mail days from blog reader Oren, especially ones that I don't know what the contents are.

After trading with him for well over a year if not two now, he has pretty much figured out what I am looking for and his mail days are always on point to what I am collecting.

We may not have done as much trading this year due to both of our busy schedules, but its apparent in his last mail day he hasn't forgotten what to send me.

Because it was on point.
First up, some Allen and Ginter non-sport minis.

A stack of some really cool looking Star Wars cards from Topps Star Wars Illustrated. This was my favorite card from the stack.

A few more from Allen and Ginter. The Wood Jr is a foil parallel, sometimes unless the sun is out I have a hard time capturing the shine.

Every time I get some Allen and Ginter inserts I am also instantly reminded that I really need to sit down and round up all of my inserts from the product and see what my set needs are.

Slap me silly! It's Will Smith! I am not sure how people feel about Will after his incident, but I am still a fan. I enjoyed his movies from the 90's and Fresh Prince.

The early 90's included quite a few celebrities on their cards I am finding out and have been trying to compile a list of needs.

I am not exactly sure what these are, but they are pretty darn cool! Definitely some unique pieces for my Batman collection. I also kept them in the baggie they came from worrying if I took them out that I may damage them or worse, lose them.

The Bulls were in my Top 3 most hated teams of the 90's, but 90's inserts were at the top of my heart and still are. This Scottie Pippen is pimpin'!

Jumbo!! I can finally knock John Elliot's autograph off from my want list for my Giants autograph needs. I wished the Gmen had him on the line right now, even at his age now I bet he can outplay what they have out there.

New Curtis Martin for that side player PC. I have gotten a good number of relics and patches for that PC because of Oren. At some point I really need to take care of the autograph need.

Then to finish up the package, Oren sent along a couple of fun packs.
Upon first glance, I wanted to keep the packs sealed which is what I do with a lot of my non-sport packs like these, but with my finances and ripping urges, I saw packs that I needed to open.

So, I did, and it was fun.
Kung Fu Panda pack had these base cards.

And it's one-per-pack sparkly sticker as it says on the front of the pack. I think the sticker looks super cool. This looks better than most inserts from today.

The back of the sticker made me chuckle which is why I had to post it. Read the fortune cookie.... :)

Then came the Shrek pack. I really liked the entire Shrek saga, especially the hidden adult content.
The base cards.

Another base card, but subset. I kept this one by itself because who doesn't feel like the Gingerbread man (Gingy) some days. "Bite Me!"

And to my surprise, the final card was this 1:17 pack pull of Fiona's Fairytale 5. Not bad!!

I would definitely open a few more of both packs! And maybe keep one sealed of each as well.

Well that was a lot of fun. The cards, the oddball findings and the packs. Thanks again Oren!!!

*takes a sip before finishing up today's post*

I look forward to doing more trades with Oren, who says he has a big stack of mystery for me. All of which I am sure is on point.

I hope everyone has a great Friday and weekend. Don't forget to drink your coffee and take in all of that pumpkin spice.
