Banana Bread Poptarts And Cards

Wake up! It's time for coffee, cards, and a banana bread Poptart.

These things are pure fire. If you like banana bread or banana flavored things, this is for you.

*takes a sip and a bite*

Today's cards I am showing off comes thanks to yet another trade with @levy2628. He certainly knows how to get my attention with the non sport stuff.

A couple cards from Rocky II. Rocky's rookies?

Believe me Doc, you will want to go back to the past looking at this future.

Me when my wife has something she wants me to do.

I don't know what this is, but it's vintage and cool.

I honestly don't have any idea who she is, but I like Ginter non sport relics so it's been added.

I don't know Country Music all that well, but from the few names I know, it does not include Bob Carpenter. I just keep adding these Country Music autographs to my collection. Wonder how many of these I own now? I definitely did not have this one.

Then came some The Walking Dead relics. I still to this day have not seen this show. I am sure if I was as deep into horror as I used to be, I would have watched it all by now.

I do collect the cards still, especially the relics. How cool is a wine bottle swatch or a swatch from a "walker"? Cryptozoic was great with their non-sport products.

Thanks again to @levy2628 for our latest trade. I know we are already working on the next and I can't wait to show off the goods from that one.

*takes a sip, another bite, okay, I finished the first half, and gets ready to finish up today's post*

I finally finished taking care of these cards just the other day and realized that I really need to sort my non-sport cards better.  It's literally a box I have thrown stuff into. It needs to be sorted by what it is so I am not trading for stuff I already have.

I will save that project for another day.

*takes a final sip*

Details on the Coffee Card Hall Of Fame can be found HERE. I may add this to every post from here on out for a reminder as I will forget about this too! Haha!

This Is Us

*drags self out of bed, gets coffee and tries to get motivated to finally finish this post that was started four days ago*

*takes a sip and begins*

This has been a long week so far in my household. Multiple Covid positives including myself this morning, so I am lagging on doing posts on here. Just hope you guys haven't missed me too much.

Despite how cruddy I sound, at least there is always coffee to help push me through.

And cards.

And television.

*takes a sip*

I have watched a lot of TV shows over the years, but none have pulled me in more than This Is Us.

This is the one show I countdown to seeing every week, it's just too bad it is ending soon with only two episodes left.

Usually I am not someone for "touchy feely" kind of shows, but this one has me turning in my "man card" because of the incredible writing involved. It's a show like no other I have ever seen.

The series follows the lives and families of two parents,
Jack, played by Milo Ventimiglia

And Rebecca, played by my long time crush (hope my wife isn't reading this) Mandy Moore.

Along with the lives of their three children spread across several different time frames.

It's a show that brings you on a roller-coaster of emotions as you watch the lives of each character develop over the years and the situations they are both in and come from. So many twists and turns along the way as well.

The show is currently in its 6th and last season, and I am not ready to see it go. I feel there is a lot more to the story that could be written, but I have heard that the writers have always planned on the show ending in 6 seasons.

I just hope they can end the show properly. I have yet to watch a show finale I was happy with.

*takes a sip before finishing up today's post*

As with most TV shows or cartoons that have been a part of my life, I try to tie cards or signed items into it. Above, I got the Milo in a trade long before I knew who he was and the Moore I got recently from Wes for Christmas. I hope to add autographs from both of them some day as well.

When it comes to rest of the cast, I am not sure if any of them have cards. I may have to look it up some day and add them if they do.

Thoughts on This Is Us and if you watch it is welcomed in comments. I suggest if you don't watch it, to WATCH IT.

Also let me know if you collect cards from some of your favorite shows.

Have a thankful Thursday.

The Griffey-Coaster Ride

*takes a sip, may had snuck a couple bites of chocolate chip cookies during that sip. Looks over at the stack of cards next to me and it's now time for some Cards Over Coffee*

This past Saturday, my childhood best friend Brian came over to my house for the first time since moving back here. Between working 55 hours a week and the unpacking still, he hasn't had time to stop by. But, he finally had the chance to squeeze some time in for me and took a good portion of this past Saturday off to do so.

Not only had it been years since he lived here, but it has also been over 20 years since we last played sports against each other. Let me tell you what, it was just as much fun as it once was.

*takes a sip before continues on*

Back in the day, 80's and 90's, Brian and I would spend 6am until 9pm outside. We would wake up, grab a few Mountain Dews, a bag of beef jerky and his boombox and we were rocking. Some days it was football (a lot in the winter), other days it was basketball and summer days were mainly spent playing baseball. It was 1 on 1, 9 innings of pure fun.

When he arrived Saturday, I made sure we would bring back some of those memories...now in a much older time. Gone was the boombox (didn't want the loud music for my in-laws) and the Mountain Dew (I can't have caffeine), and baseball but I came in with the fun with..... Wiffle Ball.

*takes another sip, starts to think about some form of breakfast today...probably not beef jerky*

Ah yes, Wiffle ball. The game with a plastic ball that has holes in it that makes the ball curve all wacky. It's not baseball, but just as if not more fun...when you are older.

So I set up a field,

(cones serve as foul poles and a homerun line. Also own a backstop for a strikezone)

(my wife's glove and ball on the pitchers mound)

(bat and home plate ready to go)

(I am not that tall, though some may see me this way at 6ft 2in)

And we played.

The game that was over 20 years in the making went to extra innings with myself coming out victorious. It was a ton of fun, but after throwing all of those pitches, my arm is still feeling it. Hello heat, Icy Hot and Salonpas and of course not all at the same time.

I realized after giving up a lot of hits that I  may not have the arm I once had (back when I pretended to be Randy Johnson), but my offense was still rolling. It may have helped that I still attempted my best right-handed Ken Griffey Jr swing. Though it is near impossible to mock either right or left handed for anyone. Ken Griffey Jr was da man as they say.

*takes another sip, then another, well finishes the cup. Gets up and quickly gets a second cup brewed and returns to sitting to continue on with today's post*

Ken Griffey Jr's swing was only apart of the reason I followed him and his career. He was also an incredible Centerfielder and an icon for baseball. He was a player I quickly jumped on collecting as well.

However, over the years, even though I haven't really ever quit collecting, I have been on and off with Griffey. It's sort of been a rollercoaster ride with my collecting of him. In the 90's, my friends and others knew me as the Griffey guy as my collection grew to 300 different cards back then. But, as the 2000's hit, I dropped Griffey some especially after he had multiple injuries and put my focus on football. Since then, I will trade/add some, then take a long break only to add some more later on.

I would be safe to say though, about 95% of my Griffey adds now are thanks to my friend Shane of Cheap Wax Wednesday fame.

Which is where today's nice stack of Griffey's came from.

I may note that these are only a few of my adds from Shane as I focused on the best for today, there were a lot more that aren't featured here. I will save those for another time and will have to do a recount on my collection to see how far past 1,000 different cards I am now.

With my rollercoaster collecting of Griffey, I have found a big key to my new adds. I mainly focus on cards that are either numbered, relics and autographs or anything eye appealing. You know, the shiny stuff. With well over 16,000 cards out there for Griffey and with it being a rollercoaster PC, I feel I have the right to be fussy. It's not like I am really Super Collecting him and need every card like I do with Rodney Hampton.

*takes a sip before closing up today's post*

Before closing, I just wanted to thank Shane again for the trade that helped me add the above Griffey's and any future trades when I ride that rollercoaster of needing to add more.

My friend Brian before he left said he would be back in a couple weeks for another round of Wiffle Ball, maybe some football and a game of Madden.

Until then, I will enjoy my cup of coffee, overlook the field and hopefully rest my arm up for next time. Maybe even get out there and practice my Griffey swings again.

Coffee Break:2021 Topps Tier One Baseball

*coffee is ready and so am I on this beautiful Saturday morning*

The sun is out and I am pumped for the first day that may reach into the 70's here. Sounds like a good day to go hit a ball with a bat. Well for me, it's wiffle ball these days and even then, my arm feels like I pitched 100 innings when I am done.

But before I go and throw my arm out, let's do a quick Coffee Break!

*takes a sip, begins to rip*

Every box of 2021 Topps Tier One comes with 3 cards. The three cards are all hits and comes with two autographs and one relic card per. Boxes run just under $200 so it's the same high end product it always has been.

*takes a sip before opening up the pack, ripping resumes now*

First card, Chris Taylor Tier One relics

Rookie Breakout autograph of Ryan Jeffers

Prime Performers autograph of Mark Buehrle

*takes a sip before finishing up today's post*

Overall, that was a bit painful. Almost $200 on a pitcher autograph (as you know I am not a fan of landing a pitcher autograph as its the same as landing an offensive lineman in football) and a relic and a rookie I hadn't heard of. But, once again, that's all apart of the gamble that is Tier One.

I will say though, there are some HOME RUN hits in Tier One with Bat Knobs, Cut Signatures of legends and big name autographs throughout. Tier One has the hits, you just have to have the luck.
