When The Wrong Choice Goes Right

Remember when I said I bought a box of cards on my way back from my vacation?

Well, my choice was the wrong one.

Sitting on the shelf among other boxes of 2025 football cards, I saw a box of Phoenix and without even looking at it, assumed it was 2025 and walked out a happy guy.

That's until I hit the car and realized I had bought a 2024. Ugh.

Yeah, I could land another Nabers rookie, but it wasn't what I was hoping for. I wanted to pull some Dart or even a Hakeem Nicks to go with my rainbow. Speaking of which, the updates on my chase for 84 will be found on my NY Giants blog, Big Blue Cardboard. Check it out if you haven't yet and go give it a follow!

Now back to the box (one of which I mistakenly deleted the box picture of).

Even though I was disappointed to have grabbed the wrong box, I still was excited just to open something again.

Each blaster box comes with 6 packs of 4 cards each, so 24 cards for $35. No guarantees in the box besides three parallels and a chance at an autograph or case hit.

I kicked it off pulling a new Giants card in the very first pack. I thought maybe that was the kickoff to something good.

DeVonta Smith, first of three parallels. I assume this is a Purple parallel. It's Unnumbered. This should have counted as a Giants card since the Eagles jumped ahead of the Giants in the draft that year to snag him.

JJ McCarthy rookie. I think he will be spending more time on the bench with Kyler there now.

My second parallel was of Travis Kelce who recently spent more time in the news about who he married over his sports season.

Here was a nice find. Rookie Rising parallel of Caleb Williams.

Then to top that off, a second dosing of Caleb Williams. This time a base card rookie parallel. Both are heading to my rookie card PC.

New Giants card. Two nice Caleb Williams pulls. I will call this blaster a win. One of the very few times a wrong choice goes right.

Let me know your favorite pull from my box below in comments.

I hope everyone has a coffee-filled Tuesday.

Is 84 An Insane Number Or Is It Fun?

Hello and good morning, Coffee Card Enthusiasts! Whether your here for the cards, the coffee, or both I hope you're having a great day.

Today, I am going to talk about a crazy thing I recently found out.

I was mailed this Hakeem Nicks and thought, how cool is this parallel? I wonder what some others look like. Upon doing my research on that part I was beginning to think of another rainbow chase.

Sadly, despite how great of a player Hakeem Nicks was, his cards are cheap. Which is sad but also falls perfect for me.

So, I was like, let's do this.

Before I do any kind of set, player or rainbow chase, my main thing is to start up a spreadsheet.

I began to set up my spreadsheet then went to copy and paste the parallels to the spreadsheet.

That's when I uncovered something.....

Something shocking...

Something uncanny and unheard of...

There were 84 parallels.

Well including the base, which I count as a part of it.

EIGHTY FOUR. You are not reading this wrong.

Is 84 an insane number or is it fun?

I will let you decide in comments.

I didn't know what to think at first, but I realized that maybe it is fun. I know I won't get all 84, but how far can I get? Sometimes it's more about the journey then it is about the finish.

In the meantime, Happy Monday.

Just Another Day

*coffee is ready, takes a sip*

Today, marks my 43rd year in this world.

And just like my previous birthdays, today's will be just as exciting.

Yes, that was sarcasm.

Let's just say DMV and meetings makes up my birthday.

Yippeee!

But, that's okay. These are things that need to be done and accomplished and in the end, today is just another day.

The only difference is, I get older and I have these to go home to that a family member dropped off ahead of time,

That is some fun football wax waiting for me. We all know how much I love that shiny cardboard.

It's been so long since I last opened some football wax. I may have to take my time on these and savor every moment like its an fancy expensive meal. Because who knows when the next time will be when I can open more.

I will be sure to post the results of my birthday break in the Coffee Break series. Wish me luck and hopefully I can find some Jaxson Darts!

I hope everyone has a less busy Thursday than I will have!

It's The Only One

It's the only one.

You might at first think I am referring to my wife (even though she is my only one) or this morning's cup of coffee (sip taken), I am actually discussing a card I recently got in the mail.

My latest X/Twitter trade landed me one of the very few NY Giants 1/1's I own, well, outside of my Rodney Hampton collection. I have a few in there.

This trade came together and ended fast. It helped that I had traded with the person before and also had plenty of interactions with them. The only surprise was it being two years since I last traded with @kemptribe, not sure why, but it appears the wait was worth it with the whopper I landed for my Giants collection.

It's the first Laundry Tag in my Giants collection and I believe in my entire collection.

It's stunning!

Kyle Lauletta was the possible QB of the future in NY when the Giants drafted him in the 4th round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

But it didn't quite work out and he bounced around a few practice squads instead. With the QB's the Giants have now, I would welcome him aboard with open arms.

I have quite a few Lauletta cards after buying into the idea he was going to be their next star QB but this one by far is now the centerpiece to that collection.

I should learn not to do that. It has happened too many times now.

I do however want to chase down this rainbow now and there isn't too much to chase. I need the following to complete it, Base Relic /100, Purple /75, Prime Yellow /25, Prime Green /10, and Super Prime Blue 1/1.

Thanks goes out to @KempTribe for our latest trade, hope the next time we won't have to wait two years but if we do, I wouldn't mind landing another only one :)

Hope everyone has a great Sunday.

400

*sits down on this milestone day. it's time to celebrate with a fresh cup. it's time for Cards Over Coffee*

400. I have reached 400 posts on this blog believe it or not. It's at a much slower pace than my other blogs, but slow and steady make the blog better. It takes me an average of thirty minutes (hour plus on product breakdowns) before I am fully happy with a post on here and even still after that I may go back and do some editing. This is why this blog will never have daily posts.

But, why change anything that isn't broken?

*takes a sip*

While originally thinking I would just ramble on about the number 400 in today's post, I figured it would be better if I added some cards to today's post.

I can't promise that today's cards have anything to do with the number 400, unless I claim them as my 400th trade on Twitter. But, I don't truly have a real number on that though it feels like I have at least completed that many.

*takes another sip*

The cards today come from @OTB_Cards who was interested in a rookie relic of Connor McDavid I had posted. As everyone knows, I am not a hockey guy, so I posted that I was interested in non-sports and football in return.

He had me covered especially with one card that I couldn't keep my eyes off of.
It wasn't this one, though, it's really cool. The comic came out in 1968 so all of the coins on here have the same date. I like unique relic cards.

It wasn't this one either, though having a Josh Allen rookie relic isn't a bad thing. I am still in need of his autograph card.

It was however this one. It's just a magical card. I can't even capture how cool this card actually is on here and I am not even a Captain America or Marvel fan. This card will stay with me though.

Thanks again to @OTB_Cards for the trade.

*takes a sip before finishing up today's post*

I want to take a minute out to thank you all again for coming back and reading my new posts. Here is to the next 400 and the next 400 plus cups of coffee with you.

*tips mug towards computer as thank you*

*takes a sip while mug is still in hand*

Milestones Part 2

*takes a sip, cards are ready next to me for today's post. It's time once again for some Cards Over Coffee*

Not only have I reached a milestone with another one of my "Big 3" player collections, I have also reached a milestone personally. A couple of weeks ago, I was told I was in the pre-diabetic stage and heading towards diabetes. In the last couple of weeks, I have re-done the way I eat, added on thirty-minutes of exercise and lost 7.8 pounds in doing so. It's not a huge milestone but compared to the way I was trying to lose weight the last three years, this is huge. I just hope it can continue.

Before I continue onto the cards, I must also admit, in this dietary change that I haven't taken out my "must breakfast combo" of a bagel and of course my friend coffee. I even had a discussion with a Dietician the other day about my eating and she was fine with me sticking with the bagel for now. Overall, I do need to reach a 25-pound weight loss to make it to that milestone. A long way to go, but off to a decent start.

*takes a sip, gets up and puts bagel in the toaster.....toasts it.....puts very little butter on...sits back down...takes a bite and gets ready for more Cards Over Coffee*

Eli Manning is the second player of my "Big 3" to reach a big milestone recently. I don't have my Eli Manning PC on TCDB, but I know there is another guy on the site who collects Eli and I rather not step on his space. Everyone on there knows that he is the Eli guy.

I am hoping on the blogosphere and maybe Twitter, I am the Eli guy.

And being the "Eli guy" I recently hit the 800-card milestone thanks to Wes, Shane and a gift card from a family member.

In Wes' box of Christmas goodies, came the two shiny Eli's. I will admit, the Prizm blue-team color parallel, looks awesome.

With the gift card, I was able to snag two cheap Eli relics on eBay for $5 each.

The surprising one between the two was this one from Upper Deck that was numbered to 75. Looks like these were not easy pulls and I didn't see any others listed. A steal I call it!

Finally, card #800 was a stunner and may be one of my favorite Eli Manning cards I own.

Dual Patch card with Rex Grossman. The swatches for both players are as the new collectors call it, siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiicckkkk or as we would have called it in the 90's, that's, you had me at hello.

*takes a sip before finishing up today's post*

With these additions and a few more recently, my Eli Manning collection has roughly 807 cards or so. My next goal isn't at 900 though, it's more like 1,000 which makes it a large milestone. With large milestones comes large cards. I will need to find something pretty special to get for that time of celebration. For now, I have a VERY LONG ways to go. I may celebrate 900 still, but 1,000 will be where it's at.

Maybe I will reach my milestone for weight loss when I reach my Eli one, then it can be a dual celebration.

Comments on my milestone, the cards today or even a milestone from your life or collection welcomed below.
