Statistically Crazy

I have mentioned this on here before, I am a man of numbers.

I like quantity over quality when it comes to some of my PC's, I like having more followers than not on social media, I like more than one cup of coffee, I like keep track of streaks in sports, and I really like watching views on my YouTube and on my blogs.

But last month, I am not sure what was going on in the coffee botverse especially since I didn't post much in June, but numbers blew up for me astronomically on two of my blogs. All record breakers straight across the board.

Cards Over Coffee is usually a less than 12,000-15,000 view blog per month and it blew up more than two times that! The 3,649 views was also a daily high for this blog that usually averages about 300 on a post day.

Then came the absolute craziness of Sport Card Collectors.

The first shocking number was the daily record breaker. I think before it was like 10,000 or so views in a day. Well, let me tell you, over 75,000 views on that day. INSANE!

On top of that, it walloped my highest monthly total which oddly enough was around 75,000. This time it went for over 250,000. The blog normally averages about 20,000 since I don't really blog on it anymore which makes it even more impressive.

So far, this month seems to be back down to earth, maybe even a tad slower. Hopefully it doesn't stay that way. I mean, who doesn't want to come by to see what craziness I posted with some hot brew on here? I sure hope you do! Well, you must if you are reading this tonight (or tomorrow). Thanks for that.

Hope everyone has a great night.

BLOG CROSSOVER EVENT 2: First Pitch

If you don't read Sport Card Collectors, you will have missed what today's post is all about. To recap quickly, I am doing a three-blog crossover event similar to how TV shows do theirs.

Today's post is Part Two of a mail day from blog reader/friend Oren. Part One can ONLY be seen on Sport Card Collectors blog HERE and Part Three will be done on Big Blue Cardboard.

Now that I got that information out, onto your usually coffee drinking program.

*takes a sip*

I wished I had time to not only blog more, but to get my collection a little better sorted especially when it comes to my set chases.

Most I don't have want lists for and some have cards not even in the same place.

It's a mess....like the coffee I just spilled.

*gets up, grabs a napkin and cleans up the mess. throws away napkin, sits back down for rest of the post*

*takes sip of what remains*

One of the many sets I would like to complete are the Topps First Pitch sets. They were spread across a few years of Topps baseball, and I know I have quite a few spread across many non-sport card boxes.

My latest ones came in this mail day from Oren. I have no idea if I have these ones or not, so until I get them put together, I will keep taking any of them I can.

Donovan Bailey is a retired once World Record breaker Canadian Sprinter. Guess it explains why he is doing his First Pitch with the Blue Jays,

We all know that she loves rock and roll and so don't we. I was quite excited to add this Joan Jett one.

Luke Donald was once the world's number one golfer. He looks like in this picture that maybe he knows how to throw a baseball as well.

*takes final sip before closing up today's post*

I will add these three to the non-sport box for now until I can find the time to gather all of the ones I have to see what I need and make a list. In the meantime, I will continue to hoard any of the ones I acquire.

Part Three of this Blog Crossover Event is tomorrow! See how this mail day ends on Big Blue Cardboard right HERE.

Thanks again for reading and having some coffee with me.

What Am I Doing?!

What am I doing?!

Well, I am drinking midafternoon coffee while blogging on here. But shouldn't this be the last post with all of the recent ones and the countdown to the finale?

What am I doing?! Expanding a dying blog?!

You may have noticed this, but I have been able to post a lot more now and have gotten rid of the final cup countdown. Does this mean I have a change of plans on the end of this blog, potentially. But I will also admit I have the final post already scheduled and ready to go.

Does this mean I will follow through? Time will tell as we know, my mind changes often and situations do as well.

So I never know....

What am I doing?!

Also, in the last few days I re-opened up Big Blue Cardboard and Sport Card Collectors for possible new posts, most likely on Sport Card Collectors but both are open. So go follow, subscribe if you haven't yet on those blogs. Once again, WHAT AM I DOING?! Those are supposed to gone!!

On top of this, for some reason I started up two YouTube channels this summer/fall.

I can barely handle having time for one blog anymore, but for some reason I decided to jump onto YouTube. Maybe it's because its much faster to do a video than a blog post. Eight minutes compared to one hour is a huge time saver. y But, my videos on YouTube are also raw and doesn't include all of the graphics, edits and stuff the pros have. They are as real as they get.

I haven't had time to post many videos recently, but if you want to check out what I already have posted and maybe subscribe, they are here.

Cards Over Coffee YouTube Channel is for cards:

Matt's World Of Fun YouTube Channel is for everything else:

Once again, WHAT AM I DOING?!! Eating up all of my free time?!

On top of this, I have already run two Facebook accounts for over 10 years, Cards Over Coffee and Sport Card Collectors, along with a Coffee Card Guy Twitter/X account , an Instagram account Coffee Card Guy and for some reason felt I needed to get involved on Bluesky as well a few days ago with Cards Over Coffee. I don't know, had to be one of the cool kids, I guess.

WHAT IN THE WORLD AM I DOING?! This is a lot of social media!

I am also on TCDB as SCC and on Blowout Forums as Giantsphan and on Beckett forums. I don't remember my name on Beckett; think it was similar to Giantsphan. It won't let me sign in, at least I can't find a way to do so. It's been years since I posted there, same probably with these other places too.

By now you are even probably wondering, WHAT IS HE DOING?!

I don't really have a full answer on that. I guess you can say having fun when time allows me to. That's what life is supposed to be about right.

And coffee of course.

I Like To Write

I apparently like to write.

For the past few weeks, I have been thinking about all of the writing I have done over the years, not only on this blog but for other websites and how nice it would be to combine it all into one post just in case anyone wanted to check it out and just so I have it all in one place.

I also went back and re-read some of my work.

One thing I have noticed over the years is that some of my older pieces compared to my newest show my progression in writing and how I think it's gotten better. It may not be pro level, but it's better.

Here are some of my early posts that I did for Bags Unlimited, a card supply company, on their blog Collection Connections.
Sports Boards Review

Here is my one and only published in a magazine Beckett Article that they also put on their website here,
https://www.beckett.com/news/dont-break-these-sports-card-collecting-rules/

Here is a mini-series I wrote for Beckett called Second Look where I took a look back at some fun 80's and 90's cards,

And here is my lone article so far on COMC (Check Out My Cards),

And I also write/written on my other two blogs,
Sport Card Collectors

As long as I can find the time to do so, I don't plan on slowing down on any of this anytime soon. But, as I always say, family first and writing second. Especially since I do this as another hobby and not in it for the money. Though it would be nice to find a job where I write about sport cards all of the time and get paid to do so.

I hope all of you enjoy the above pieces and my other ones to come.

Have a Super Sunday, God Bless.

They Are Catching On

*takes a sip of hot coffee, it was much hotter than I expected burning the middle of my tongue. Well, that's not the way to start the day but at least I have some good news to share. takes another sip more carefully*

It has taken over a good long year, but I think, #CardsOverCoffee is finally catching on.

Blog stats for July have been amazing for this blog. Comments are up, individual posts views and monthly views are way up. It's what I have been working hard on for a year and even though the numbers are not even close to Matt's Wonderful Blog Of Hobbies (Sport Card Collectors), it's still trending upward. Just hope after July it doesn't trend downward again.

Let's take a look at yesterday's stats alone. It set a daily high, and as you can see, this months stats are way surpassing the average (the last month has been where it's been at) and we still have a few days left to this month.

As a man known for enjoying numbers, this month has made me happy.

*takes another sip, begins to cook breakfast and type at the same time. yes, I can do that*

If you look back at the post title, it says they are catching on and not just it's catching on. That's because not only Cards Over Coffee that has grown in July, but so hasn't Big Blue Cardboard and Matt's Wonderful Blog Of Hobbies. Big Blue Cardboard has set all-time highs in daily and monthly views (also averages one comment a post which is a all-time high as well-thanks Fuji) and Matt's Wonderful Blog Of Hobbies (Sport Card Collectors) is having it's biggest daily and monthly views in 3 years. I am not sure if other bloggers are feeling this in July of 2021, but I know it has perked me up that's for sure when it comes to blogging.

*takes another sip, continues to work on breakfast*

Speaking of blogging, after reading comments on here and a few posts from other bloggers about their blogging subject, I have also decided to keep all three blogs chugging along and here is how they will pan out,
  • Matt's Wonderful Blog Of Hobbies- Continuing daily posts, Reviews, Breakin' Wax, Small Mail Days, Card Countdowns like the Summer Of Wes one, Random Card postings
  • Cards Over Coffee-a couple posts a week depending on content and time to post. Bigger mail day and special card posts.
  • Big Blue Cardboard-pretty obvious, my Giants card collection and mail days whenever I can fit them in.
I am hoping by not putting too much pressure on myself by doing daily posts on all three, I can juggle a healthy and fun balance. As someone put as a comment on my post about blogging and figuring out my direction, "why choose?" So I didn't.

*takes another sip before finishing up today's post....well...I am also going to finish making my breakfast*

It actually wasn't even the numbers that helped me decide what to do with blogging, it was the summer break of not doing a lot of posts that helped. I had time to think everything over, take in some input and lay it all out in my mind.

Not saying the numbers after didn't further cement what my plan was.

*takes a sip, Coffee Card Blogger Out*

Also breakfast is done and ready to roll, if you can't recognize it, it's a bagel sandwich with egg, sausage, cheese on an asiago bagel. Sooooooooooooo good.

Also, before closing, a big thanks to all of you who take time out to read my blog or blogs. I appreciate taking time out to read my gibberish.

*okay, now Coffee Card Blogger Out*
