Where were you the day the King Of Pop died? Don't remember? I do.
Most celebrity deaths I don't remember where I was or what I was doing at the time I found out they had passed, but for some reason or another, Michael Jacksons had always stood out.
It wasn't like I was a diehard fan of his, there are a few songs I enjoy, but nothing I play on a daily, weekly or even monthly basis.
But I still remember the day he passed.
It was a hot June day in 2009. My wife was mowing the lawn outside and I was taking care of some inside chores while the TV was on one of the news channels for background noise. That's when the news broke of his death. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. It wasn't like he was old or that anyone was expecting it. I then remember running out to my wife and telling her on the lawnmower that the "King Of Pop" had passed away and how shocked she was as well.
I think when she was done mowing, we both sat down and ended up watching the news to hear more about what had happened to him.
This had always just stuck in my mind. I don't know why still.

Was never a huge fan, but Thriller was the first "grown up" vinyl record I owned, and I have memories of my cousin and I singing along to "Say Say Say" - his duet with Paul McCartney.
ReplyDeleteI haven't heard that song with Paul. Maybe I will give it a listen
DeleteI was right where I am now, pretty much, in my apartment. I was a pretty big fan, and I saw him live three times, twice on the Victory tour with his brothers and once on the Bad tour.
ReplyDeleteSo many favorite songs, but I have to mention "I Want You Back", "The Love You Save", "Enjoy Yourself" and "Wanna Be Startin' Something".
He must have been amazing to see in concert
DeleteI remember. I blogged about it. ... I don't know if I have a favorite Michael Jackson song. They're almost all good. Some of the '90s stuff doesn't do it for me.
ReplyDeleteYeah, the older stuff for any singer seems to be their best stuff
DeleteI love me some MJ... but have no idea where or when I heard about his passing. Based on the date... I was already on summer break, so maybe I was sitting in my office sorting baseball cards.
ReplyDeleteFavorite songs? Here's five...
1. Don't Stop 'til You Get Enough
2. Rock With You
3. P.Y.T.
4. Wanna Be Stsrtin' Something
5. Man in the Mirror
Some great songs on that list
DeleteWhen I heard the news I was driving home from work. It was the same Day that Farrah Fawcett died. I think I had just heard the news of Farrah's death when news of Michael's death broke.
ReplyDeleteSee, I forgot Farrah's passing that day as well
DeleteHmmmm The one song I first remember was Rockin Robin and ABC. But I would have to say my favorites were: Billie Jean, Man in the Mirror, Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough, Bad, Human Nature & This Girl Is Mine.
ReplyDeleteBillie Jean is a good one
