Guess You Have To Like Em

Mother-in-laws can be mother-in-laws.

They can be the ones you hide from at family get togethers, the ones you don't answer the phone when you see their number pop up, the ones you have nightmares about, the ones that haunt you for the rest of you life.

But, they can also be the ones who are caring, who do what they can for you, and are just happy you are the one married to their child.

My mother-in-law is a combination of both. Sometimes she drives me crazy and then other moments, she comes through with a surprise or two.

So for every moment she comes over to my house and makes those absurd comments about my toaster oven being full of crumbs or how I should be parenting, she also has those moments where I find a coffee, a snack or even some sports cards.

Though most of the time she doesn't always bring the greatest stuff, she at least tries and I have to credit her for that.

On the other hand, sometimes....she finds some diamonds in the rough.

That's where today's post comes into play.

Her latest finds came at an auction and this time it isn't so much about the sports cards for me. It's about another sweet luxury item.

The cards were shoved into a green grocery bag all loose. Most of what was in there was 1974 baseball and a few peeks of hockey. As someone who wasn't born until 1983 and didn't get into sport cards until 1994 and into sports until 1995, there wasn't a lot that really had my interest in the group. I didn't know most if not any of the players.

I am sure most baseball bloggers reading this right now have their jaws dropped in disbelief.

*offers sip of coffee to those bloggers with their jaws dropped*

There were some Nolan Ryan cards though. I do know who he is.

The pages were kind of sticky both by a substance and the fact they were the older pages.

Most of these cards I expect will end up in my base boxes to my father.

But, not these two, they were keepers.

I have zero idea what either of these non-sport cards are from, but they looked cool so I kept them.

Just for a heads up, she told me she bid $27 on these and won them. There was another guy who was going back and forth with her over them.

Let me know in comments if you think she overpaid for those. I believe she paid at least three times over what they would be worth.

Now onto the key prize and apple, big apple, of my eye from this purchase.
Yes you are reading it right.

A Lawrence Taylor autograph football on a stand. The football is a little deflated and cannot be blown back up, I tried after but the Patriots must have gotten to it first (yes this is a joke I will beat into the ground).

It's still a magnificent piece and really sharp signature.

She told me this one went for $60. Let me know if she overpaid for this item.

I was pretty happy with the addition of the LT autographed football. There were about four non-sport cards and some Nolan Ryans I plan on keeping from the bag of cards.

Overall, she did pretty good this time in her search and finds. I guess I can let her keep coming over for this.

Whether you like them or not, Mother-In-Laws aren't going anywhere so guess you have to like em.

Hopefully yours is a well balanced edition like mine.

Have a great rest of your night.

A Pick Me Up

*takes a sip, sits down to get ready for another Cards Over Coffee post*

*makes sure Kleenex box is still nearby*

I am sure you are sick of hearing about me being sick for the last couple of weeks, but here we go again. I am on the mend finally, but still have some lingering symptoms.

I can assure you this much, if you haven't had Covid, you won't want it.

*blows nose*

*takes another sip and returns to today's post*

My mail box has been extremely slow this past week with no cards incoming, until yesterday in which a surprise envelope arrived from blog reader Oren.

Since this envelope was a surprise, this meant that the contents were as well. This wasn't the typical trade where he lets me know ahead of time what is being sent. My curiosity was at an all-time high and I ripped into it.

I was greeted immediately with a note that stated this was a pick-me-up mail day since I wasn't feeling well.
Then I was greeted with some Seasons Greetings from Florida and Kadarius Toney. What I wouldn't do to be on the beach in Florida. Maybe some day.

The next card was full on Dufex with Future Force of Garrison Hearst. I hadn't seen one of these inserts before and are from 1994 Select.

A Trevor Zegras rookie card from NHCD. (I had to smile at this as Oren continues to hook me in on hockey)

Rookie Rewind of Bryant Reeves. If this card doesn't scream 90's, not sure what card does.

And my final two cards were from Fleer Tradition.

They were Great Expectations inserts of,
Shareef Abdur-Rahim (is it just me or did I pull a lot of cards from this guy back then)

And Tim Duncan.

I really liked the design on those.

Thanks again to Oren for the pick-me-up mail day. I really enjoyed it and it means a lot. Of course I always appreciate the friendship as well.

*takes a sip before finishing up today's post*

Before closing today, I wanted to take some time out to thank the rest of you who came on here and on Twitter and wished me well. Every thought matters.

Thoughts on my mail day welcomed in comments.

Have a Super Saturday.
