She Did It Again

Well, my birthday has come and gone and all that remains is the new aches and pains, a few crumbs of cake and a few cards.

I already shared what Oren had gifted me and now I will share my only other card gift which came from my mother-in-law.

And she did it again. She bought me the wrong kind of cards.

*takes a sip of freshly brewed joe*

You are probably wondering, "there is a wrong kind of cards?" and yes for me there is.

She went and bought more junk that I cannot use for my collection. On top of that, the cards were in awful condition and appeared that half had been soaked in water (the box dripped a little after opening)

At first glance I am sure you are thinking there has to be something in there, right? Maybe unearth one of those gems that others find from Goodwill? Nope. There weren't any surprises in here and it was really hard just to find a few highlights to post below that interest me.

The only rookie.

A couple cereal cards.

A well-loved Ruben Sierra Provision.

Probably the coolest find of the entire lot, tempered steel insert.

This one wasn't in ruff condition

90's insert, always welcome those.

See above card

See last two cards, however these are in rough shape.

1995 Fleer needs more love, give it more love.

Two Pacific game board cards? I have no idea what these are but haven't seen them before. Can't go wrong with the two players.

Just wished the cards had been in better shape.

To finish up the finds, here is me trying to mull over what to do with the mostly ruined cards.

I know I should be grateful, which I am. She did think of me on my birthday. As always, I told her thanks and mentioned there were a few cards that really stood out to me. I just didn't have the heart to tell the truth. As Colonel Jessup would say, "she can't handle the truth!"

However, I can't say all things were bad when it comes to gifts from her as she had a second surprise for me that day. It wasn't cards but was very interesting.

I guess that just means you will have to come back and read the next post now.

See you then.

He Remembered, Did You?

Today marks my 42nd year of life. Yes, it's my birthday and I will party if I want to. But, at 42, who parties anymore. You are just hoping at this point something else doesn't ache when you wake up.

Curse you lower back!

So, my form of partying at this age is having the day to myself, drinking some coffee (takes a sip), and putting up a new post on here. Otherwise, I don't have much planned. I have spent every birthday like this pretty much so anything outside of this would be a surprise.

Speaking of surprises, I got this mail day in the mail a week ago and I suspected it might be my birthday gifts from blog reader/friend Oren, so I didn't open it until this morning. He never forgets it.

*takes another sip*

Oren once again just like he does every year, hits the nail on the head with my birthday gift.

First up, he sent some packs,

Plenty of variety here. I have opened some of the packs and will post results in my Coffee Break segment.
Malcolm Gladwell is a journalist and writer.

The Shep! I don't have this autograph of him either. I wished he had stayed retired as a Giant but he had some great times in Tampa last year.

I have a couple other Electra rookies, but not the bowman Chrome one. Awesome card. I wished they made more celebrity cards like this.

This is one half of the Sklar brothers who are comedians and used to host the show Cheap Seats which was on ESPN Classic channel.

Another new Rhett Bomar.

And speaking of new, Eli! I have a couple others but not this green one. Oren finds another new one for me.

Still one of the greatest catches ever in NFL history, I think Tyree's helmet catch was better, I still watch and re-live this moment time after time. If Odell had stayed on the Giants, kept his head on, stayed healthy, he may have been one of the most dominant receivers EVER. He was that dominant on the Giants. But, he got traded away and everything was messy after that.

Thanks again Oren for the birthday gift and thinking of me.

Early in the day only woke up with a new small back ache, so that's gotta be good news right? Maybe 42 will look good on me this year. I hope. Haven't checked my hair count yet either, but maybe I will just leave that alone and stick with the positives.

Have a great day everyone.

Mission Possible

*takes a sip, sits down and tries not to look outside at the new fallen snow, but instead focus on today's post*

My birthday came and went 8 days ago and this was the first year I had a few surprises for it. First, my buddy Wes sent me an eBay gift card, my wife got an eBay gift card and a carrot cake (don't worry I still stuck to my diet and kept it under control), and my sister-in-law sent me a one-of-a-kind gift I was not expecting.

*takes another sip before continuing on while also thinking back to that carrot cake*

Tim Tebow was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft. He played a couple seasons there struggling on and off before being traded to the Jets where he played one year in the backup role. After that, he failed to make the Patriots and Eagles rosters before trying a baseball career and playing in the NY Mets minor league system for five years before retiring from pro baseball. He didn't give up on the NFL dream yet after his MLB retirement as his college coach Urban Meyer was hired by the Jaguars and he was signed to play the Tight End position instead of quarterback. It didn't work out in the end for either Meyer or Tebow, and he ended up on the sports talk show First Take while Meyer ended up on the news.

Tim may not have been a Hall Of Fame NFL QB, though he did throw a game winning touchdown  pass to win an playoff game that many QB's have not done, but he is a Hall Of Fame person we all should look up to.

His devout Christian faith, willingness to always help others and showing to never give up on your dreams should be a life we all should live. I know I try my best, but I am not even close to his level. I do believe though, that every little bit helps and hopefully those of you reading this today do your part as well big or small.

This is what made me a fan of Tim Tebow and though I have never mentioned it on a blog before, I do collect his cards and add what I can.

One of my biggest wants was an autograph of his to be the centerpiece of my collection and this tidbit of info must have slipped out to my sister-in-law at some point.

Because for my birthday she bought me Tim's latest book that was a signed copy version.

Inside a few pages in was this. So cool!

Definitely a centerpiece for my collection and a book I will actually read.....when I am not on here writing a post or busy with life.

Thanks again to my sis for this awesome gift if you happen to be reading this post today.

*takes a sip before finishing up today's post*

My next plan is to get an autograph card of Tim, however, those don't go for cheap despite his pro career. His college career holds his values along with what he stands for.

Tim, if you happen to be reading this, I just want to thank you as well for standing up for what you believe in, your faith, and for being an inspiration to this blogger.

In comments today, thoughts on this addition, Tim Tebow or anything positive.

*gets into Tebowing stance*
