Some That Stood Out

A few months have passed since I got my big box mail day from reader Grady M, Box Ol' Grady, and I have yet to share any of my fun finds from the many mini boxes.

As I have said before, there isn't even enough cups of coffee in the world to share everything he sends. But, a cup today will be good enough to share a few eye keepers.

*coffee is hot and ready to go*

Let's start with these stand out Judges. They may be some of my favorite Judge cards I now have.
Topps Chrome All-Etch refractor.

2024 Topps Chrome 1989

Panini Crusade

Then these two hockey cards from 2023-24 Upper Deck Allure really stood out.

And upon research on these, I guess each player can build a colorful rainbow combination of different colors. For example, the Lafreniere also has a card the same color as the player above once you get to that part of the rainbow by laying the cards side by side.

Wonder if I should choose one of these players and build off from them.

Finally, I love nothing more than a creative flashback to the 90's, 2024 Stadium Club Triumvirates.

I was pretty stoked to have found these.

They look great!!

I considered trying to finish building both three-part team cards, but I think my time would be better spent getting the Yankees team one and the Ken Griffey Jr one.

So, if any of you have any of those cards available, hit me up for trade at sportcardcollectors@hotmail.com.

Thanks again to Grady for another great mail day. I can't wait to dig for treasure next time.

*takes a final sip before finishing up today's post*

I am still working on taking care of the cards from this mail day so if I come across anything else I think should be shared, it will be.

Thanks again for reading and have a great day.

A Dantastic Mail Day

PWE trading continues to be the driving force in my collecting world.

In the real world, it's coffee.

*takes a sip of freshly brewed coffee*

When finances are tight, a stamp or two (sometimes three) is what gets me through and helps me bring in new cards.

My latest trade with @DanPortnov shows how well trading like this helps. Dan is easy going and easy to trade with as I have done multiple deals with him now. He's the kind of person I like trading with.

In my latest haul I got a few cards from each of my favorite and top PC's.

It has been a while since I have added some Griffeys, it's about time that I did.

Rookie year Ad Card. May not be flashy, but I don't have it.

(I don't think the hairdresser would be able to do this to my hair, #baldingpride , #baldpeoplematter)

Two generational talents, two players that couldn't stay healthy later in their careers. Can you imagine their numbers if they stayed healthy??!

The shiny stuff always gets me. Plus, I don't have a lot of newer Griffey stuff (hint, hint). Just in case anyone reading this has other Griffeys, you can see my needs HERE.

The next part of my trade brings in some Giants.

New NY Giants starting QB Russell Wilson. I am not one for college cards, but I will take them of players I collect. I have collected Russell before he was in NY.  Now that he is a Giant, I look forward to adding Giant cards of him.

Wandale Robinson should thrive even more with better quarterback play. First time in a long time I am excited about the loaded Giants QB room.

Bill Parcells is a legendary coach for many teams, but this is THE TEAM that matters most.

A new Nabers!

I think he fits perfectly with his friends right here.

I don't quite know about this vintage dog card, looks like it was cut out of something, but it's pretty cool even for a cat guy.

Dwier Brown played John Kinsella in Field Of Dreams, but I have also seen him across other movies (horror) and TV shows.

Okay. Here me out. I like these. Yes, I know it's just a swatch of newspaper, but it's cool and is a piece of history.

I also like how they show a little snippet of the item the swatch has been pulled from. I wished sport card companies did this.

Two more Pieces Of The Past document relics. The relics are unique, but the card design to me is well done. I like the layout and the shine.

Thanks to Dan for our latest trade and hope we can do another one soon.

Hope everyone has a terrific Tuesday.

Layered Part 2

Coffee is ready, cards are ready, keyboard is ready, so I guess I am ready.

Let's tackle Part 2 of my mail day from Jon from  A Penny Sleeve For Your Thoughts.

Now that I tackled all of the non-sport end of the mail day, let's check out some sports cards that were hidden in the layers.

I have a copy of this Ken Griffey Jr, but this one is out of the package so it will fit in my box of Griffey cards. Sadly, the voice part doesn't work, still cool though and love the photo.

I thought this card was super cool. It's made of really thick plastic like a backboard would be.

I think someone knows of my love for 90's Knicks basketball and my PC player of Allan Houston. This starting five was where my passion for basketball came from.

I always thought these had a fun design. I try to forget he played anywhere else but NY.

Upper Deck was always creative, they once even joined forces with Lego to create a Lego character and card to go with it.

I can't wait to add these to TCDB to see if I have them or not. After you reach a certain point in any collection you tend to forget what you have and what you don't. That's why spreadsheets and TCDB are so important.

Rivalries. Knicks, Heat, those were the liveliest of games in the 90's.

And the biggest surprise of the box was this card,

Andre Williams Tools Of The Trade rookie. What I love about these cards is the variety of relics and where they come from on the players uniform. They can be pants, jersey, gloves, etc. They were some of the best Panini relics. I am not sure I have this one or not, will have to check TCDB, either way I keep all relics and try to see how many of each I can add.

That does it for Part 2. Still more to come from this mail day.

Getting Bent Over By The USPS

Coffee is as hot and angry as I am this morning.

This just means it's time for a new, rant edition of #CardsOverCoffee.

*takes an angry sip*

Is it just me...or is the USPS having some serious issues in the last couple of months?

Let's see....
  • They have lost 4 PWE's I had incoming.
  • They made a couple of my PWE's disappear into thin air and then reappear to my recipient 6 to 7 weeks later than expected.
  • Mail is slow both receiving and sending
  • Some mail has come partially opened
  • And finally...the first case of this...damaged mail
This is what happened with my recent mail day trade with blog reader and friend, Oren.

*takes another angry sip*

Not all of my cards were damaged that came from Oren in this trade.

These three 2015 Americana base were fine. I still need to see if I have a complete set of this or maybe more than one. I opened a ton of it.

John McAfee is a businessman and a two-time presidential candidate.

Fans Of The Game of Sam Bradford. If you don't remember Sam, he was mainly known/drafted/played for the Rams from 2010-2014. He was the OROY in 2010.

I don't know who Riff Raff is or his songs, but digging his style.

Bri Baker was a contestant on Master Chef. I like anything that has to do with food, especially food that goes well with coffee.

I had to Google Robert Pollard. I had no idea who he was. He is a musician for the group, Guided By Voices. Have never heard of them.

I still haven't watched a single episode of Stranger Things, but sounds like I need to. Mix of 80's nostalgia and monsters.....yup...right up my alley.

Lana Turner relic was the surprise of the trade. Oren occasionally throws a blind curveball into our trades. Lana was one of the highest paid actresses in the 1940's. Can't say I have ever seen anything she was in, but this is still a very exciting PC add.

And now...here's the part I get bent over by the USPS. And not in the Matchbox 20 way.
2 cards were badly bent.

And bent so bad they were creased.

And sadly unsavable. I really liked these too!

Thanks USPS. This is sarcasm.

Thanks to Oren for the trade!! This was not sarcasm.

I had to make sure I clarified that because sometimes you can read someone's reaction through a keyboard.

*takes another angry sip before finishing up today's post*

It has gotten so bad with the USPS, that I am now at the point that I worry about anything coming and going from my house. I constantly am checking with people I mail to just to make sure their package or PWE arrived. It shouldn't be like that. It didn't used to be like that.

Let me know in comments today if you have experienced any of these issues.

Have a great Thursday. And don't let the USPS bite.

I Got One, Pulled A Hit!

Coffee ready, bran muffin in hand (I am 40, you need extra bran in your diet at this age), and laptop and cards ready. You know what that means, it's time for a NEW post on Cards Over Coffee!!

One of the things I was hoping most for this Christmas, was some products to open. ANY.

Especially new football product.

Every year I hunt down new Giants cards from products and try to get one rookie card of every player, but 2023 was tough financially and 2024 is heading down a worse path so far.

My 2023 football collection is lacking guys like CJ Stroud, Anthony Richardson, Bryce Young, Bijan Robinson, Puka Nacua and others. Not something I usually face at this time of year as I usually have my rookies all set. But now that Prizm has released I kind of like to get those rookies first, but would take any from any product to start out with. The Prizm rookies will be added to my Most Wanted list soon along with some rookies I need as well from baseball and basketball.

Now that I got that out there, I was lucky enough to open up one blaster from the Mrs this Christmas of new football product and felt pretty good about it.

I didn't pull any of the rookies I listed above but did pull some decent stuff. Or at least in my opinion.

A couple new Giants cards for the PC. I get excited about pulling PC cards even if they are just base.

Diamond Parallels. Nothing too great there, but always enjoy the look of the look of the Prestige parallels.

The GOAT of all-time running backs. Nobody will ever beat Barry, if only he hadn't played for a franchise that never won a Super Bowl for him.

Georget Kittle insert.

One doesn't quite fit with this receiving trio

Was a terrible ending to this game, but we got them back in the playoffs where it mattered more.

Shiny! I need the Barkley like this.

The GOAT of WR's. Nobody will be Jerry either.

And the biggest surprise came in the very first pack I opened,

An autograph! Not sure who Jay Ward is or the odds of pulling an autograph in the product, but I always get excited when pulling something unexpected. It's as great as someone bringing you a cup of coffee you weren't expecting.

Thanks to my wife for this box.

*takes a sip before finishing up today's post*

I have decided as I typed this, I might do a post as directly on my Most Wanted list. I don't think anyone ever checks it and maybe one of you has something I might need from it.

But, first coffee. Well, first I need to finish up on these Christmas posts. Still a few more to go then posts will be fresher than my newly poured cup of coffee.

Hope everyone has a great Sunday.
