Still Livin' In The 90's

*reminisces without coffee because it's late*

If I had the choice, I would still be livin' in the 90's. Those were the greatest times for me.

"cowabunga!"

Hanging out with friends, playing baseball in the backyard, playing tackle football in the snow, shooting hoops on the playground, playing toys on recess and riding the merry-go-round (remember how dangerously fun that was), watching Saturday morning cartoons with my bowl of Rice Krispies Treat cereal, going to the latest Scholastic book fair looking for the newest Goosebumps book, watching horror movies weekly with my mom after spending an hour in the local video store searching for them, and simply just hanging out with friends and spending nights over at their houses.

"Booyah!"

Oh, and did I mention collecting some of the greatest cards ever made.

Most of that I won't ever get back or be able to ever experience again the same way, but at least I can still enjoy the greatest cards ever made.

"they were all that and a bag of chips"

A recent mail day from Twitter from @Rookies_Relics reminded me of those great times I had and the great cards.

Blitzkrieg Harrison. Not one of the coolest designs like the others, but still better than most stuff today and fell 1 every 6 packs. The much tougher to find die-cut version of these fell 1:36 packs.

I have had my eye on some Mr. Momentum on eBay for a while and didn't own any. They are as cool in-person as I thought they were! These inserts were found 1 every 10 packs.

Seasons Best was always a fun insert that provided plenty of variety and fell 1:16 packs

"as if!"

When I mention wanting 90's inserts, these are the cards I am talking about!

Thanks again to @Rookies_Relics for the mail day and reminder of the good times. Oh, snap they are phat!

*yawns and realizes its bedtime*

I am always up for any cards like this. 1995-1999, any sport, any team, any player. Anything that is shiny is a bonus. Refractors are an amazing bonus. If I already have the cards I will still take 'em.

I will admit there are times I do dive back into some horror (mostly around Halloween) or watch my Saturday morning cartoons on DVD (Darkwing Duck up next) during the week with some cereal (Fruity Pebbles now since they don't make the other one) and possibly shoot some hoops outside by myself. I am trying to keep some stuff going.

That's how I am. I am still livin' in the 90's.

Hope everyone has a great night.

Layered Part 3

*coffee is ready, cards and coffee are hot, let's brew this thing!*

When Jon and I were emailing back and forth about cards, he had asked me if I was interested in any 1997 Donruss Preferred base. Without hesitation, that was a big YES.

1997 Donruss Preferred football was one of my favorite products that year outside of Spx and EX2000. That was a great year for base cards.

Jon sent along a healthy stack that maybe could drive me to want and try to build a full/master base set.

There are 150 total cards in the master base set which doesn't sound like much until you really break it down.
These are the first level, Bronze. There are 80 of these and has a 5:1 odds of finding them per pack.

The next level are Silvers. These are 1:5 finds and there are 40 of them to chase.

Following the silvers are Golds. These fall 1:17 and have 20 to chase. I do have some of my own here already to add to this.

Finally, the final 10 which are Platinum level. These fall 1:48 packs. I have never pulled one nor owned one. Pretty cool card. Thanks Jon!

I will have to dig out some of these that I already have and see what I need. I can already acknowledge I will be needing some of the silvers, golds and obviously Platinums.

There is still one more post to go in this series. Stay tuned and keep your coffee hot for that!

Don't forget you can start to nominate cards for the 2025 Coffee Card Hall Of Fame!! Cards don't have to be autographs, patch cards, super star cards. It can be whatever you think is Hall Worthy! Find details and current nominations HERE.

Have a great Saturday. I have two basketball games today, wish me luck! Our season is almost at it's end.

I Love You Fleer Metal Universe

*takes a sip, a bite of bagel and gets ready for the new #CardsOverCoffee*

I love Fleer Metal Universe.

*lights a candle or two. turns on some BoysIIMen as that's top in romance when it comes to music*

Speaking of BoysIIMen..to the tune of I'll Make Love To You.....
Close your eyes, grab the Fleer Metal
And turn on the candlelight
For tonight is just your night
We're gonna sort cards, all thru the night

Grab a box, grab the binder
Girl your wish is my command
I submit to your sort demands
I will sort anything, girl you need only ask

I'll sort cards with you
Like you want me to
And I'll hold them tight
and I won't drop them like last night
I'll sort cards with you
When you want me to
And I will not stop
'Till you tell me to

Hope that gets stuck in your head today. Maybe sing it to your significant other. Who knows, maybe you will get lucky and sort cards.

*takes a sip before showing off today's cards*

I have been doing a lot of sorting the last few weeks and came across my Fleer Metal Universe stash. I have a little bit for each sport and plan on one massive sort build for each. Right now, the one I am closest on is the 1998 Metal Universe football. I will hopefully have needs posted on that soon.

In the meantime, my focus is actually on attempting the 1997 Fleer Metal universe football set. It was the inaugural football set to kick off the etched foil textured-fun-bright-action photo background which is the main attraction. I also think it's the best looking set of the two released, 1997 and 1998. The 1996 baseball version was the original Metal Universe design and it was sharp as well.

So far, I have a very slow start with only a few cards out of the 200 but I LOVE what I have so far.
Galloway and Wheatley......"We're meant for each other."

Bruce and Collins...."You complete me."

Thomas and Way......."We're perfect for each other."

And Walter Jones....."You're my baby."

I do have another 20 something on the way from Burbank, but other than that, there are a lot of holes to fill in and I still need all of the star players.

*takes a sip before finishing up today's post*

I will be updating all of my set needs on here as I get that project done. There is a long ways to go with the project and then having to write all of the needs down and type them up. I may just write them down and then take a photo of each list. Update the photo as I go along. Of course my handwriting is awful like a doctor writing a prescription so I will need to take my time.

I hope all of you have a great Valentines Day. I don't have much planned, I did hand make my wife a gift that I think she will enjoy.

In comments today, let me know which BoysIIMen song you like, your thoughts on Fleer Metal Universe, or a set you LOVE.

Although we've Come
To The End Of The Sort
Still I can't let go
It's Fleer Metal
They belong to me
And to you
Although we've come
to the end of the sort
Still I can't stop now
It's still Fleer Metal
They belong to me
They belong to you

SHINY!

*takes a seat at the kitchen table where the laptop is placed. Realizes left coffee, cards and plate with bagel on the counter. Gets back up, grabs them and sits back down. Today feels like a Monday on a Friday*

When it comes to placing a monthly order on Burbank Sportcards Beckett Marketplace I never know what cards I will be in the mood for. Sometimes it's all NY Giants, sometimes I take advantage and fill some 90's insert and parallel sets and other times I just feel like searching for something eye appealing.

And then there are times I am like the dog Doug from Up, instead of SQUIRREL I say SHINY!

This month I went 90's and SHINY!

*takes a sip before showing off the mail day...SHINY!*

First up (SHINY!), 1999 Fleer Metal Universe Starchild that fell 1:6-1:8 packs depending on what packs you opened. I had never seen these before and was really hoping that they looked as good as their scans did on Burbank. Not only did they look as good but even better then I expected.

More SHINY!

There are 20 cards in the set to collect.

And as one may expect, I am certainly chasing the set now.

SHINY!
Magnetic Field could be found in packs of 1997 Metal Universe baseball at a rate of 1:12 packs. I already owned one of these but had thought about building the set for awhile as the cards are quite stunning. There are 10 cards in this set to be found including some big name gold glovers.

SHINY!
Another insert set from 1999 Metal Universe is Quasars. They fall 1:18 packs.

SHINY!

*takes another SHINY! sip*

The final cards I grabbed were probably my favorite of the group.
1999 Score Supplemental Behind The Numbers

There are 30 cards in the set, all numbered to 1000 and they fell randomly in packs.

I snagged a few of the cheaper ones just to see how they look.

I think the birth of another SHINY! set chase was born.

*takes a sip, before closing up SHINY! today's post*

With prices so high on today's cards and everything being a money grab, I am glad I collect the way I do. Cards like I grabbed today are more fun than any you can find today's boxes and are about 1/70th of the price. For me, it's not about the money, it's about the simple enjoyment.

And the SHINY!
