Is 84 An Insane Number Or Is It Fun?

Hello and good morning, Coffee Card Enthusiasts! Whether your here for the cards, the coffee, or both I hope you're having a great day.

Today, I am going to talk about a crazy thing I recently found out.

I was mailed this Hakeem Nicks and thought, how cool is this parallel? I wonder what some others look like. Upon doing my research on that part I was beginning to think of another rainbow chase.

Sadly, despite how great of a player Hakeem Nicks was, his cards are cheap. Which is sad but also falls perfect for me.

So, I was like, let's do this.

Before I do any kind of set, player or rainbow chase, my main thing is to start up a spreadsheet.

I began to set up my spreadsheet then went to copy and paste the parallels to the spreadsheet.

That's when I uncovered something.....

Something shocking...

Something uncanny and unheard of...

There were 84 parallels.

Well including the base, which I count as a part of it.

EIGHTY FOUR. You are not reading this wrong.

Is 84 an insane number or is it fun?

I will let you decide in comments.

I didn't know what to think at first, but I realized that maybe it is fun. I know I won't get all 84, but how far can I get? Sometimes it's more about the journey then it is about the finish.

Here are a few I have picked up so far.

I know I won't get any of the 1/1's, but let's see how far I can get. Let's keep this a new segment for the rest of the year. What do you guys think? And what should I call it? The Chase For 84? Nicked Off? Let me know your thoughts in comments on the chase and a name for it. Can't wait to hear it.

In the meantime, Happy Monday.

  1. Never say that you'll never get the 1/1s I recall a friend of mine he said he wouldn't have gotten a rainbow of printing plates of a card cause of 2 factors the popular of the player was as well team collectors who want that certain team well needless to say he got the plates so somewhere there's groups wondering why they can't find that player so try your best see what you can do cause I'm sure Hicks maybe popular in the Giants crowd but if ya got your extended group of friends if they were to see it they would pick it up surprise you for it so g'luck I think you could pull it off

    1. Thanks! I circle has gotten smaller for things now. I don't have much to trade that's at a premium anymore without giving up something I actually want to keep. I figured it would be fun just to go see how far I can go.

  2. For a collector that chases the rainbow it is a tall task. For me the hardest thing is to identify the parallels unless they are SN cards. Then it becomes a little easier. Maybe it is a marketing strategy for the card maker. Whatever you choose to do, enjoy the hobby all!

    1. I think rainbows are simply fun regardless of how much heart and effort are put into them.

  3. Goodness me 84 is a lot. Nonetheless, collecting as many as you can should be exciting!

    1. I think so. But yeah, 84 is a record. I can't imagine they get any bigger, but who knows. Topps could break that record.
