Need To Finish A Project

*coffee is ready, cards are by the side and computer is on. time for some cards over coffee*

I am starting to feel like my father-in-law. I start projects and never complete them.

It took him many years and some extra pushing from his wife to finally finish building our house. Which is something he worked on mostly alone for two plus years. But he has also started many projects around his own home which have spent years of sitting there. Things such as window frames in a newly updated bedroom incomplete. His workshop floor that has been needed to be replaced, but only half has. A bench he started to build. Some clearing out of bushes that never got accomplished. His sugarhouse needing upgrades and so on and so forth.

Looking at all of his unfinished projects made me look back on my own hobby ones. I am no handy man, I can't even put a screw in the wall, so the only projects I seem to start and never finish are hobby related.

All of my player collections. All of my rainbows. All of my set chases. So many left undone. All of my sorting and re-sorting that needs to be done. Soooooooooo much.

Which is why I post some of my needs on here just in case anyone out there has the help I need.

Most of the times I strike out as I collect stuff that most bloggers don't. However, sometimes I get lucky and by lucky I mean meeting someone cool like Greg from Plaschke, Thy Sweater Is Argyle who has a lot of similar interests as myself when it comes to collecting non-sport cards.

So much so that he completed a Master Set I could only dream of completing, the 2013 Press Pass Parks and Recreation.

I got deep into Parks and Rec about three years ago when I went binge watching. Such a funny show with humor that hits. Well, except the last season. That to me was a disaster and they should had ended it the prior season.

Anyways, the set for Parks and Rec included a 90-card base set with 90- card silver parallel to the base set as well. There were no inserts but a very solid autograph and relic checklist.

With my chase to accomplish my dream of trying the Master Set, I actually jumped right into the autographs narrowing my search down to four. Then I went and completed the single relic set. Then I went to try and finish up the base and silver parallel set which I traded with a guy on Twitter who almost had a full set of each.

This is where Greg comes in. He had some extra cards kicking around of base and silver parallel and emailed to see which ones I needed. After a few exchanged emails, he generously helped me out and I was able to cross off a few needs to the chase.

Here they are,

Now I am just needing the following to finish up the basic part of the chase,

Base:
6

Foils:
5,10,19,34,51,64,77,79,82,87,89

As for the aforementioned autograph chase, after many trades, I am down to the four impossible ones. I won't ever have funds for them so it will be just a strictly trade kind of thing.

Here is what I have,

Here is the checklist and what I need to finish this,
  1. Amy Poehler as Leslie Knope
  2. Aubrey Plaza as April Ludgate
  3. Aziz Ansari as Tom Haverford
  4. Fred Armisen as Raul
  5. Jay Jackson as Perd Hapley
  6. Jim O’Heir as Jerry Gergich
  7. Megan Mullally as Tammy Swanson
  8. Mo Collins as Joan Callamezzo
  9. Nick Offerman as Ron Swanson
  10. Parker Posey as Lindsay Carlisle Shay
  11. Paul Rudd as Bobby Newport
  12. Retta as Donna Meagle
  13. Rob Lowe as Chris Traeger
Now onto the relics. I finished the single relic set, however, there is a 4-card dual relic set, and a 2-card triple relic set if my research is correct. I don't have any of either of those yet. Once again, probably another impossible chase.

If only I was into the show back in 2013 when the product was basically being given away. I heard boxes from hobby shops were literally $35 a box. Wow.

Thanks goes out to Greg for his big help in my chase. Check out his blog for cool cards like these and more. I linked you above.

Hopefully I can at least finish the base and silver sets now. It would be nice to be able to say I finished a project then maybe brag to my father-in-law though he may not see it the way I do.

But it would be one project more than he has done recently.

Have a Magnificent Monday.

Playing Catch Up

*coffee is hot, coffee smells amazing as a sip is taken before kicking off the new post*

I have to admit, it's been a while since I live posted. The last three posts I had sitting in drafts just waiting on one more touch to publish.

Today's though is up to date.

So, what have I been up to and what's up with the MIA (missing in action, I haven't been MIC..missing in coffee)

I have just been busy with family and life. I don't have a lot of time for much in terms of extra activities such as blogging or technically the hobby in general. My hobby area is such a disaster that I don't really even want to look at it. It looks like a 3-year-olds play area.

I spend most days on the road and when I am not doing that, I have been doing a house overhaul where I have been just trying to get rid of STUFF. You know, one of those things you usually do in the spring, I have been doing now. I plan on having a Yard Sale in the spring, but those plans may change as I prefer to donate and trash what I don't need instead. I feel yard sales are a lot of work and it doesn't feel they are much of a thing anymore. Everyone sells online or Facebook marketplace. Even though I could use any extra funds from selling stuff that way, meeting up with potential creepy people from online in a Dollar General parking lot doesn't sound inviting.

It sounds more like the makings of another Dateline episode.

Sorry, I don't want things to end that way. If I am going down like that it better be a white truck with big black letters that say free coffee on the side, and I enter it looking for such items without question.

*takes a sip*

As for my health, I know the last update was that they found some swollen lymph nodes in my neck. I had an MRI done with IV and funny thing is, there weren't any. Even though both the doctor and I could feel something both in the front and back of my neck.

Despite that good news, it wasn't all empty of finds because you know, this is 2024.

They did find a cyst on my main salivary gland by my left side ear that they are sending me to see an ENT for further assistance (scheduled for January). I am not sure what this even means, but they might be looking into see if Cancer is involved or if it needs to be removed, etc. I am definitely stressed about this finding as I just recently found out that my mother was diagnosed with lymphoma. One of the many times bad news has hit me in 2024. Probably another reason why I put on 8 pounds recently from stress eating.

I have lost a couple of those pounds the last couple of weeks. I can't afford to put on weight, or it may re-kick up other health problems including kidney stones.

Ugh.

I also just put 1K into my car again. This time I needed to buy new winter tires since they told me the old ones wouldn't work this year, and I had to replace my CV Shaft as well. So this year alone, I have fixed the back doors, brakes, struts, and something else I can't remember. This has completely drained funds, so the hobby has been put onto the backburner by far between health, home and car problems.

It will be a long time before the hobby is put into the forefront again.

Now onto some better news.

The last few years since their return, my wife and I buy a McDonald's Happy Meal boo bucket and post a yearly picture on Facebook with us enjoying such.

This year she got the orange and I got the blue that I wanted.

I may have also gotten one of the first ever Dunkin' version of the boo bucket that contains 50 munchkins.

Don't worry, I didn't eat them all, I shared.

Though I did take all of the blueberry donuts. Those things are the bomb.

Another thing that went right is a card find. I mean I couldn't do a post without a card right?

I have been slowly chasing the 2013 Press Pass Parks and Recreation card set. I have added a few relics and some autographs. One of the autographs I really wanted because she is my favorite character on the show is April Ludgate (Audrey Plaza). The problem being, I did not have the funds for such a card with everything that continues to go on, so I needed to trade for one. Her autographs are not cheap.

The second problem, nobody had one.

For about a week straight, multiple times a day on Twitter, I tweeted out my search for the card.

Crickets.

That's when @breakspalmetto saw my need.

They went and picked up one for me then traded it to me. I couldn't believe it. I didn't even know they had done that until they randomly posted it to me.

It's even graded! The grade on the card isn't great, but the card looks superb. Grade is not right.

Back of the card.

With all of the bad things recently and all year, there are a few bright spots, and this is definitely one of them.

Thanks again @breakspalmetto!

*takes a sip before finishing up today's post*

I am glad I had a few minutes this morning to update everyone on what's been going on and that I got to share my latest card add with you as well.

I hope everyone has a great Friday and weekend. I will probably continue my cleaning project this weekend and get tortured by forcing myself to watch the Giants game. They have made my eyes bleed weekly. It's time for a new QB.

Until next post....7 more to go.

Parks And Recreation

It's been over a week since the last post on here, I suppose it's time for some Cards and some Coffee.

I have both next to me, so let's get this party going!

*takes a sip*

I get a lot of TV show suggestions time after time and most of them don't hit home. One of those in particular is The Office. I just can't get into it even though it's loved by all.

However, another show with the same kind of premise, I recently really got into recently.

That show is Parks and Recreation.

The show ran for 7 seasons from 2009-2015 and takes place in a Parks and Recreation office led by Leslie Knope who is played by Amy Poehler. The cast is really solid and works well together as you watch relationships build and the comedy rolls on with the situations they are placed in. Along with Poehler, the cast consists of Rashida Jones, Aziz Ansari, Nick Offerman, Rob Lowe, Aubrey Plaza and Chris Pratt to name a few. There were also some guest stars as well.

So far, I have only made it halfway through season 2, so no spoilers in comments please! But I have enjoyed every episode all the way from the start.

*takes a sip, thinks about putting on an episode while typing this up but knows the article won't get done if that was the case*

*takes another sip*

After getting into the show, I remembered that back in 2013 Press Pass created a Parks and Recreation card set. I wasn't into the show then when I opened a box and had no idea who or what the show was, but now I do and now I want the cards.

So, a chase happened.

I do have a couple autographs and relics I will show another time, but I wanted to chase the base set and silver parallel set as well.

After weeks of posting on Twitter that I was looking for said sets, I finally had someone replied and we pulled off a trade.

Included in my portion of the trade was an almost complete base set, missing card #6.

And roughly an almost complete silver parallel set. I will have to write those numbers down sometime.

I will have to do an Unfinished Cup at some point on this set.

If any of you have any kicking around and want to check in with what I need, just drop me an email at sportcardcollectors@hotmail.com.

Thanks again to @wolf_and_saint for the trade. I hope you enjoyed what I sent as much as I enjoyed what you sent.

*takes a sip before finishing up today's post*

I have also gotten a few other mail days recently as well and will be posting those soon too along with a few other special posts.

Hope everyone has been drinking their coffee during my hiatus on here and saying cheers while waiting for my return.

Have a great Monday.

You Think Friday The 13th Is Scary....

You think Friday The 13th is scary? I am more worried about March The 19th of 2023.

*takes a sip*

On March 19th of this year, I am turning 40 years old.

40.

It doesn't seem possible, especially since I have a mindset of a 12-year-old.....though a body of a 60-year-old.

Since I will be turning a big scary number this year and the fact, I know I am getting older, I recently took an eBay gift card I got for Christmas and turned it into something that would make me feel young again. No, I didn't buy a magic youth potion from Yzma, those of you who watched Emperor's New Groove will get that reference, but I did buy something that would take me back in time.

And yes, I wished it had been a DeLorean but what I got will have to do.

*takes a sip before my coffee gets old from sitting here*

Even though these literally can't really take me back in time like the DeLorean could have, these can nostalgically.

I picked up some unopened 90's packs from my favorite time of collecting, 1995-1999, for a rip-fest. I am really looking forward to it.

Included in this pile is,
  • 1997 Upper Deck UD3 Football (4 packs)
  • 1996 Laserview Football (3 packs)
  • 1996 Press Pass Premium Football (1 pack)
  • 1996 Pinnacle Select Hobby Football (1 pack)
  • 1995 Signature Rookies Autograph-Phonex (3 packs)
A good mixture and all I had opened at one point in my youth.

I plan on posting the results from the packs in a new segment coming up soon. Right now, it's going to be called Turning 40 but the name may be adjusted before I post the first part. Let me know in comments if you have a better name.

*takes a sip before finishing up today's post*

I know many have said 40 isn't that scary or that old, but I guess I will find out in March. There is no turning back time, even if I was Cher.

Thoughts on my packs and if you have something scarier than Friday The 13th coming up for you this year

Local Guys

*a surprising warm streak in October the last few days with temps up in the 70's has me feeling better about winter not showing up out of nowhere. takes a sip, gets ready for a new #CardsOverCoffee*

I always see many tweets, Facebook posts and even a few blog posts that brag about local "celebrities". So I sat down to think, do any actually exist here? I know none are from my home or current town but in a short distance there are two that come to mind. Actor Luis Guzman who lives roughly 13 minutes from me and Basketball player Taylor Coppenrath who went to my rival high school 20 minutes away.

I thought it would be fun to add some cardboard of them like everyone seems to do with their local celebrities. Unlike others however, my search wasn't as easy.

*takes a sip*

Guzman has been acting for over 40 years and has been in many movies and television shows, but as far as I can see, doesn't have any cardboard which is surprising being someone who has been in Hollywood as long as he has. Maybe Leaf needs to be contacted about including him in Pop Century.

Taylor Coppenrath played basketball on my rival high schools team, went to college at UVM where he won multiple awards, went undrafted in the NBA but made it onto the Boston Celtics summer league for one season before taking a European contract to play basketball overseas. He currently moved back and is coaching high school basketball. Coppenrath does have a handful of trading cards out there from Press Pass, but not easily found. I did scrounge a few together though from a my last Burbank Sportcards order.

*takes a sip before eating a brownie bite that just happened to be sitting next to me, takes another sip another bite and now onto showing off the cards*

Coppenrath was included into 2005 Press Pass and has roughly 11 cards out there according to Trading Card Database.
I picked up the base card.

The gold holofoil which is numbered to 100

The Old School insert.

And one of the four autograph cards he has.

It's a small collection but I am happy with what I have. If I happen to stumble upon anymore I may add to it.

*takes a sip before finishing up today's post*

A couple-not-so-local celebrities that comes to mind for the state as well is Jim Cantore (the face of the Weather Channel who needs a Allen Ginter card) and wide receiver David Ball. Ball, broke Jerry Rice's Division 1-AA record for touchdown receptions when he played for UNH and later closed in on a couple others as well before being overtaken by Cooper Kupp for those. But, Ball still remains close to the top in most categories but never made an NFL roster other than preseason games for the Bears and Jets. That's still pretty cool though. Ball has cards in multiple Donruss/Playoff products and Sage and I look forward to actually adding at least one.

I may also have to tag Brian Gray from Leaf on Twitter and try to put a push for a Luis Guzman card for Pop Century. That would be a fun addition to my collection especially a signed one.

*takes another sip and another brownie bite. breakfast at its finest*

So I am curious, what local celebrities do you have? Have you seen any movies with Luis Guzman? Every heard of Taylor Coppenrath? David Ball? Must know Jim Cantore? Tell me in comments!
