Unfinished Cup:1995 Summit Ground Zero Football

It has become apparent that I am not very good at remembering things, after updating my Set Needs tab on here, I began looking for new Unfinished Cups to feature and for some reason I found I doubled up on a few of the ones I already did.

Ooops! That won't happen again.

First, it's walking into a room and forgetting why I was in there and now it's publishing the same blog posts twice.

My forgetful 40's are kicking in.

Now you probably ask, why bother posting them when you already have them in your Set Needs Tab. Well, that's because I find that featuring them in a post may help get them the reach I need and hopefully someone will be able to help fill those needs.

Because I know not everyone clicks on the tabs to check them out and my set needs may never get out there to be seen otherwise.

I will say by posting them, I have had some help over the years, so I know these posts are useful.

So, let's get on with today's before I forget what it was.

This parallel is 1995 Summit Ground Zero which was found 1:7 packs of 1995 Summit football. The base card design for Summit was one of my favorites of the 90's and still ranks easily in my Top 10 for base designs.

So, we top that off with a cool looking parallel, one of my very first parallels to pull, and you have a chase.

I have come so close over the years, and I think and feel like it's time to finish up this bad boy. It's not every day you finish up a 200-card parallel set.

Here is what remains,
35,53,60,64,71,79,103,109,125,136,137,138,159,160,166,169,174,177,178,179,180,182,188,189,193,195,196 197,198,200

If you have any, please comment below or hit me up in my email at sportcardcollectors@hotmail.com.

Thanks for reading, thanks in advance on any help and hope you brought your coffee.

Unfinished Cup:1995 Summitt Ground Zero

*sits down, takes a sip and a trip back in time with today's cards. let's get ready for a new cards over coffee. takes another sip*

1995 was a big year in sports cards for me.

It was the year that I fully got into collecting, even though I was collecting some at the end of 1993 and 1994.

But, 1995 is the year that really stands out to me the most. I remember two products specifically that I opened and opened and opened and opened. One I will feature in the next Unfinished Cup.

Today, I am diving right into one of my favorite parallels of All-Time, Summit's Ground Zero.

*takes a sip before moving onto showing off today's set*

Falling 1:7 packs, Ground Zeros sparkled like no other parallel at its time.

It was a parallel set that I have been slowly building since 1995 and have narrowed it down quite a bit for such a big set.

All that remains of this 200-card set is,
35,53,60,64,71,79,103,109,125,136,137,138,159,160,166,169,174,177,178,179,180,182,188,189,193,195,196,197,198,200

Not too bad.

If any of you have any help for me, please let me know.

*takes a sip before finishing up today's post*

In comments today, let me know your thoughts on this set and if your favorite parallel set from 1995.

Have a great day!

Pops Day

*takes a sip, sits down on his hard kitchen chair. Has laptop sitting in front of him with a stack of cards, cup of coffee. Windows are open, the sun is shining and the sound of birds chirping makes it feel like a scene from Mary Poppins. Takes another sip, time for some Cards Over Coffee*

Today is Father's Day.

My father wasn't your top-of-the-line dad. He didn't teach you life lessons. He was not a role model. He was not someone you bragged about to your friends. But, he did do the one thing that mattered most to me, he spent time with me.

We went fishing, we played basketball, football and baseball against each other. We played video games, mainly football ones while trash talking at the same time. We went to two NY Giants games, the only two we have ever gone to. We watched sports together during bad and good sports years for our teams.

And yes, we collected sport cards together which was our biggest bonding moment to this day.

*takes a sip*

We started collecting sport cards in 1994 after discovering packs of cards at a grocery store and later on opening them up in the car (I guess that explains why when I am able to find retail I can never make it home with anything sealed). From there, card addicts were born.

So many memories were made while we collected together. There wzx card shows, card shops, sneaking cards past my mother, talking my grandmother into the hobby, visiting her neighbor who had one amazing basketball card collection, to even opening packs while he drove. Which isn't recommended, but had to be done.

I will never forget any of those moments spent together They are deep within my brain and exist in my collecting today.

Which is the biggest reason why I collect what I collect and explains my recent mail day from Burbank Sportcards.

*takes another sip and moves onto the mail day*

There are so many 90's set projects I am working on from those deep memories of my childhood.

One of the biggest chases has been collecting all of the Spx sets, including parallels and inserts, with the holograms of the 90's. We opened so many packs of those from all sports and I absolutely fell for the holographic goodness. I have come a long ways with this project but still have a few sets I am missing parts of. One of those is the 1996 Spx baseball.

I was able to pick up 6 of the final 7 cards I need to complete with only Kirby Puckett remaining for this to be finished.

My next grab is one of my next set chases.

Top Crop is shiny map goodness.

Next part of my mail day, were the very first parallel cards that caught my attention.

1995 Summit Ground Zero cards were inserted in packs at a rate of 1:7 packs and were and are still stunning. I finally was able to knock one of the bigger ones I needed down in Sanders. Still need McNair and Martin as my other two big ones.

Other than Spx, I am also chasing Ex sets of the 90's as well for all sports.

These Fleet Of Foot fell 1:20 packs.

Taking a look at these cards brings me back to those days of collecting with my father. It's amazing what a little piece of cardboard with someone's picture on it can do.

All of these cardboard memories I grabbed from Burbanks Sportscards Beckett Marketplace and saved 10% off by using Code 15BURBANK at checkout. You can also shop their millions of items in inventory now by clicking THIS LINK HERE:

*takes another sip before closing up today's post*

Even though we don't collect together anymore, we still collect apart. We have done trades through the mail and in-person. He also calls me every weekend to discuss the hobby.

I hope all of the fathers reading this today have a Happy Father's Day and in comments I would love to hear any collecting stories or memories you have with your father.

90's Cards Over Coffee:1995 Summit Baseball Box Break

*takes a sip after a long few weeks. Sits down and gets ready for a new Cards Over Coffee post*

The 90's are back! Well, not really, though I really wished. But, they are back on here as we get ready to see how another box break went from my trade with Shane from Beckett's Cheap Wax Wednesday fame.

Today's break comes from one of my first favorite product lines of the 90's which only lasted for two releases in Score Summit. Some call it Score series 2 but to me, it would be more of an elegant Score than be apart of Score itself. Or in Coffee terms instead of having a Cup #2 at home, it would be like having your second cup at Dunkin' or Starbucks.

*takes a sip from cup number one at home*

I have never opened a box of Summit baseball and only a handful of packs. However, I have opened a ton of the football product and am still chasing both the base and parallel Ground Zero set pretty hard. I am creeping completing both but I know someday I will reach the ultimate goal.

So I am really excited to finally be able to rip a baseball box of this.

*takes a sip, begins to rip*
Every box of 1995 Summit Baseball comes with 24 packs of 7 cards. This is a 90's box so no guarantees other than a good time which is how the hobby should be. Boxes when this was snagged ran about $20-$25. I don't quite remember since this was back in November.

When you open the box up, you see a nice display of packs. Rumor had it back then, Summit was laid out so you could find the inserts by counting packs and rows.

*takes a sip, moves onto pack 1*

The Summit baseball design is exactly like the football one which is great.
There are 200 cards in the base set with a few subsets as well in

Special Delivery

Bat Speed

Checklists

And Rookie which weren't really rookies. Baseball is so complicated when it comes to rookie cards.

*takes another sip, is feeling hungry and may need a snack at least before cup 2*

The parallels in Summit are stunning. In football they were called Ground Zero and in baseball are known as Nth Degree. These fall 1:4 packs.

I was really hoping to find my boy Griffey Jr, but most of these aren't bad names to complain about at all.

I am tempted to chase this one like I am with Ground Zero. At the very least, I want both Griffeys.

*takes another sip before I move onto inserts*

New Age falls 1:18 packs. This is a great looking card.

The next pull was 21 Club, a little bit of a letdown compared to the first insert. These are 1:36 packs.

Then came the Big Bang...falling at an incredible 1:72 packs or 1:3 boxes is, Big Bang. Such an incredible card. I was doing Hammer Time after this pull.

*takes a sip before finishing up the post*

That was fun and now has given me even more sets to chase especially when it comes to Big Bang and Nth Degree. I really hope to open another box someday.

Let me know in comments if you have ever opened or own any cards in this set!

90's Cards Over Coffee:1996 Summit Football Box Break

*going to be fun today, it's been awhile since I have done with one of these posts. So let's get on with a trip back to the 90's with a box break. But first, let me get some coffee*

Long before the rise of box prices in the hobby, I was able to make a trade with my buddy @ShaneSalmonson and land a few boxes to open of 90's stuff I enjoy. These box breaks happened such a long time ago, not just because they are in the 90's, that I no longer have the odds information to offer you. I apologize in advance for that.

Knowing this break already has been ripped instead of being ripped "live" on here, there won't be any sippin' before I do some rippin'.

*takes a sip, begins to show off the break. This doesn't sound as much fun*
In each box of 1996 Summit football, there were 18 packs of 7 cards each. The box back then was around $30. Now I don't even want to look and see what they are going for.

When you open up the box, the stack of packs stare at you in a nicely centered Styrofoam. Back in the 90's, Summit was considered to be a "higher end" product so it was packed like so.

*takes a sip before breaking down the product more and showing off the results*

The 1996 Summit base set consists of 200 total base cards.

This breaks down to 146 veterans, 35 rookies, four checklists, and a 15-card subset all about quarterbacks in Quarter Horses.

The 35 rookies are from a strong class that include such stars as Keyshawn Johnson, Marvin Harrison, Kevin Hardy, Simeon Rice, and Eddie George.

*takes another sip, looks around for a breakfast item since posts like this usually take awhile before I will hit publish. Finds a Jalapeño cheddar bagel, toasts it, butters it, comes back to the laptop. Notices beverage is getting low, gets back up, brews a cup, comes back to sit to move onto the inserts*

One great thing about breaking 90's cards, you aren't concerned about hits. It's all about the beautiful inserts and parallels.

The parallels in 1996 Summit are the same as the 1995 edition in Ground Zero. Difference being, the 1995 is more of a speckled design and the 1996 is more of a zebra color. Both though, look striking.
Jim Harbaugh Quarter Horses

John Elway. Nice find!

Danny Kanell. This is a nice PC piece.

*takes a sip before moving onto the insert finds*

Inspirations is a rookie laden insert set with all cards being numbered to 8000. I pulled one of the guys who has a fun last name to pronounce and a guy I pulled a lot of in the 90's.

3rd And Long. These look really great and are numbered to 2000

And Turf Team. This card I missed when opening up packs but after sorting found it stuck to the back of another card. These are numbered to 4000.

*takes another sip before finishing up today's post. Also finishes last few bites of bagel*

This was a fantastic break. Emmitt, Elway and Aikman inserts and parallels. I got a good chunk of the base set and was already chasing the Ground Zeros and all three pulled were new. Very happy with the results from this break.

Let me know your thoughts in comments.
