I'm Back

*sits down with hot coffee and some cards*

Sorry that I have been missing in action on here. I have always said that family comes first, and they do.

Now that things have slowed down a little, very little, it gave me a gap in time to enjoy some cards and some coffee. Not that I haven't had my share of coffee the last few weeks.

But, that's not Cards Over Coffee.

*takes a sip*

I was able to enjoy a few things the last couple of weeks that signals that fall is in full force now.

First, I went to a high school football game at my alma mata. They lost, but it was still a fun watch (sorry for no pictures on that as I know the school frowns on photos, and I don't feel like getting sued right now with all of my other issues)

I visited and picked apples at an orchard. I figure some will be for eating, some for pie and some for bread. The taste of the fall other than pumpkin spice is apple.

At the orchard they also had some animals. I know my wife has called me one of these a few times. I am talking about a Jack people. A male. I am not sure what you were thinking (though you are definitely right if you thought what I think you are thinking)

 

Hit up a corn maze! My first one in over 15 years. I had a lot of fun, got lost a few times, then found myself. Sounds like a metaphor for life.

 

I did not though take an Emergency Exit once. I put in the valiant effort. The fun thing about this maze was that it gave you clues at each station number throughout. Your clues were answers to questions on a sheet. There were 5 different sheets to choose from in which I chose the sports one where the first question was, how many championships did MJ win with the Bulls? They weren't all easy like that, but I knew about 8 of the 10.

In this same time frame, I got a mail day that's been waiting to be posted from Dion's Autograph collection.

*takes a sip*

Dion and myself pulled off another 2 PWE trade and I landed myself a good variety of cards.

First up, some random Allen And Ginter base/insert cards,

Then some newer G-Men since my collection lacks a lot of newer stuff.

Hobby Burnout

*sits down, takes a sip, laptop open and cards are in hand. let's get ready for the newest post on Cards Over Coffee*

The last couple of years in the hobby has really taken a toll on me sometimes. The cost of cards, the lack of finding retail, cards I loved collecting in the 90's going for outrageous prices, everyone money hungry, Fanatics owning everything (not sure on how they will do in the hobby yet but it worries me), Hobby Dementors sucking life from collectors (like the creatures in Harry Potter) and trading becoming more of a thing of the past has really gotten me down some days about collecting. 

It's gotten to the point that sometimes I wonder why I am even collecting still as I have experienced hobby burnout multiple times.. 

But then...

a card with a picture of an egg reminds me of why I am still in it.

I can find my own fun deep within the hobby still. Such as an Egg card from a small pwe trade.

*takes a sip, wonders if should scramble some eggs for breakfast to go with today's post*

My latest trade with Dions Autograph Blog was just a nice reminder of why I am still hanging on.

I thought these Stadium Scenes inserts were a great idea by Topps to integrate collectors into the hobby. I wished they would do this again.

 

A Piece Of History was another fun Upper Deck product that was underrated. Probably because it was a mix of baseball and non-sport. It seems a lot of collectors don't take to those ones. Hence, Allen Ginter.

I like adding cards like this because I wasn't ever really a big history person until I got older and wiser. The problem is now that I am older and wiser, the history we were once taught is changing before our eyes and trying to be erased. I still want to learn what I never paid attention to in school so adding cards with history is a must for me.

And the final card in this trade was this Post Malone "rookie" card. Yes, I already acquired one earlier this year, but I don't mind having another.

I know hobby burnout will come back and hopefully I can push through it again. I know I am also not alone with this burnout as I have seen others even quit the hobby since it became so overwhelming. It's sad to, this hobby is supposed to be a hobby. Hobbies are supposed to be fun. I am just hoping we go back to pre-2020 days sometime. Heck, would be better to go back to Pre-2000s times.

Coffee With Ted Danson

*takes a sip of coffee, this time a mocha coffee from Dunkin' from the early morning errands, and reminisces back to the 90's*

The 1990's had some of the best sitcoms ever to exist. Not that the 2000's haven't brought us some gems but none of them have really stood out like a few from the 90's. Pretty much everyone has heard of Seinfeld, Friends, Home Improvement and Everybody Loves Raymond just to name a few. It was a great time to watch TV and most of these I currently watch on repeats on multiple channels.

Sometimes though, it's not always the headlining sitcoms that were/are the best. Sometimes you find that gem in the rough you simply laugh your pants off at. One of those sitcoms that comes to mind for me is Becker.

Becker starred the great Ted Danson, who most remember from the NBC hit Cheers, who played the lead in the show as Dr. Becker. 

The show took place in NYC in a small doctors office run by Dr. Becker who was cantankerous and easily annoyed by his patients, friends and the world but yet cared about all of it. Which is why his friends and patients stood by his side despite how he may have treated them. 

Some of the patient and Dr. Becker interactions were absolutely priceless and left me rolling on the floor laughing.

*takes a sip of coffee remembering some of the interactions and trying not to choke on the sip*

Just last week, I acquired a signed piece in a trade with Dions Autograph Collection of Dr. Becker (Ted Danson) for my TV Collection.

As always, I am a tad concerned on whether this is an authentic signed piece or maybe a pre-print. The autograph photo came from a friend of Dion's who collected autographs as well. This was either from a signing, fan mail or TTM. 

From research I have done, it appears Danson's signature changed a lot from them until now if this is signed by him. This is a clear written out name while newer ones you can read the word Ted with his last name being more of a scribble. If anyone has any input on this would love to hear it.

If this happens to not be real, I will have to acquire a real one with a COA from a respectable company. Either way, this is a cool piece and thanks to Dion for the trade.

Becker ran on CBS from 1998-2004 covering 129 episodes. If you haven't ever heard of it or seen an episode, go find one and I bet you will want to watch the series.

Currently Danson plays on the sitcom Mr. Mayor as the lead after a successful run on The Good Place. Last show I watched him in was CSI where he took over the lead as D.B. Russell. It was odd seeing him play on a drama after many years of doing comedies but he did pretty well in that role.
