Blog Bat-Around: 5 Best Pack Pulled Hits (Cards Over Coffee Version)

There are some Blog Bat-Arounds I like so much, I do them twice. The difference this time is I am doing it with coffee.

*takes a sip*

Matt over at Diamond Jesters has sent forth a new Blog Bat-Around challenge where he posted his Top 5 best pack pulls and wanted others to do the same. I did do this already over on Sport Card Collectors, yes, I revived the blog for a day I can do that, but I wanted to do one on here as well. I have opened up packs on both blogs so figured why not do one of these for each.

Now the one I posted on Sport Card Collectors will strongly be the better one especially with the top card, but this one I feel isn't too shabby. You can read the Sport Card Collectors one HERE.

Now onto the Cards Over Coffee version.

*takes a sip, moves on with today's post*

5

1996 Summit Turf Team Emmitt Smith. They don't make inserts like they used to! This one is numbered to 4000. They were randomly inserted into packs.

4

A Case Hit with this Genesis card which also happens to be in the Coffee Card Hall Of Fame. It had to make this list didn't it?

3

It's Jeter, it's an X-Factor. The odds of landing an actual good player that fits my PC is not easy. I would call this a solid pull.

2

Tua has shown flashes of big-time stardom and then he has moments where he has you shaking your head. But, he is still on his way up and playing for a good team and coach. Pulling a good silver Prizm is something I never do, even though this is a Prizm Black meaning the value isn't as great as it would have been as an actual Prizm silver, but it's my best card of his and it's a keeper.

1

It's numbered to 5, Hall Of Famer autograph. Looking at the others I have on this list, it's an obvious number 1 to me.

Well, there you go. My best 5 pack pulls on this blog.

*takes a sip before finishing up today's post*

I hope all of you join in on this fun Blog Bat Around. I want to see your best pulls.

Thanks to Matt for the creative idea and for helping me come up with a post for today.

Hope all of you have a great day!....and with lots of coffee!

Finishing Up A Trade

*grabs a handful of cards and sits down to post about them. it's time for another new Cards Over Coffee post today*

*takes a sip*

*actually gets back up to make some toast to go along with today's post. takes a bite, sits back down, takes a sip, begins today's post finally*

I try to be as easy as I can be with trading.

Sometimes I will just take some cards to finish a trade whether they completely fit what I am collecting or not.

I regret it at points, but other times it works out well in the end. I will say that was the case for my latest trade with @TommyJC1.

*takes another bite, a sip and gets ready for the post*

I will start with the cards I claimed at the end to finish up the trade. I didn't know how I felt about it at first, but after getting the cards in hand, I was pretty happy with my choices.

Like this Ronnie Lott. Cool looking card. As I have gotten older, I have come to appreciate the older 90's cards like this.

Same goes for this Robinson. This would have been meh for me a couple of years ago, now it's cool and in. Just like Coffee and Cards.

Some odds and ends SI for Kids cards.

Gale Sayers and Walter Payton POG.

What do you guys think about my fill-ins to finish the trade?

Now onto the main claims.
New Jeter

Tim Tebow for my Christian Athlete PC.

Oddball Giants cards. I didn't have these two.

Allen Ginter claims. Always taking these.

Cards for my 90's PC for these guys.

And to end it, more non-sport additions. I may have these already, but I also may not. I lost track so I just take them all.

Thanks again to @TommyJC1 for the trade. Hope to do this again.

*takes a sip before finishing up today's post*

I hope there are others out there who do what I do to finish up a trade. I sometimes will take cards in these kind of trades for other people that I know would appreciate them. These are RAKs I do usually.

Thoughts on my mail day welcomed in comments and let me know if you are this kind of trader.

Have a wonderful Wednesday.

Coffee Break:2022 Topps Tribute Baseball

*sits down, starts to download some older posts from The Product Breakdown as I have decided to do my box breaks back on here again and bring back my NY Giants blog. More on that another time. Uploads the content, 13 posts in all that will republish on here and takes a sip and gets the post coffee blog ready*

Today, I am diving into a box of 2022 Topps Tribute baseball. High end products and I don't usually equal success. Every time I have ripped a high end box the results have low end feels. Will today's product do that as well? Only one way to see.

*takes a sip, begins to rip*

Every box of 2022 Topps Tribute baseball comes with 6 packs of 3 cards per pack. Boxes should have 3 on-card autographs along with 3 game used jersey cards per. Currently boxes are steep at about $450.

BASE:
The base set is beautiful. Well designed, the cards are really thick and the touch of rainbow foil along the border of the player really adds a nice look to the already clean card.

The card backs are stat-less but come with some tidbits on the player featured.

There are 90 cards in the base set featuring veterans,
and Legends of the game.

Here are rest of the base that I pulled in my break,

There are also 10 base rookie cards to find as well. They are card numbers 91-100.
These cards are shortprinted as they fall 1:18 packs. Would make it challenging to put together a base set.

PARALLELS:
Green /99, Purple /50, Orange /25, Red /10, and Black 1/1.
Not a lot of parallels to find in a box as I found only one. This is a Xander Bogaerts purple as you can define by the border around the player.

HITS:
Without any inserts to chase, here is what I pulled in this break,

Stamp Of Approval relics of Mullins and Rendon.

Triple Relic of Pedroia

Dual Relic of two Yanks, Pettite and Sabathia

Pitcher auto. ugh. I know Dodger fans would be happy with this one.

Winker autograph. Looks like a green parallel /99

And final hit, I assume an orange autograph /25 of another pitcher in Shane Bieber.

OVERALL THOUGHTS:
Well, I think the product is stunning in design. I even like the design of the hits as well.

The tough part is seeing what a box goes for and what I got in return. That is hard to swallow.

There are though tons of AMAAAAAZING hits I left for you guys to find, however. If you can't afford a box, I suggest picking up singles or jumping in on a box break. I can't promise you value back every time, but what I can promise you is that the cards would look great in your collection.

Thoughts on today's product welcomed in comments.

A Perfect Trade

*coffee smell is throughout the kitchen this morning waking up all of the senses. goes and pours creamer in, stirs, goes and sits for today's post*

Trading has really been slow for me in 2022 so far. It's not like I don't have the pieces to trade, it's just that I can't find the right collectors for those pieces and the few I have found didn't have anything for me in return.

That changed this past week where two decent pieces I had to trade found their way to new homes.

*takes a sip*

One of those pieces found their way to @ShoffJason who is a big White Sox fan and on top of that, had pieces for me in return. That my friends is called a perfect trade.

Speaking of perfect trade, this one was easy and fast which also makes it perfect.

I will start by showing off the bonus cards that Jason threw into this trade,

Shiny Derek Jeter I didn't have, awesome.

I only have a couple 20 Years Of The Captain, so all of these are new.

Christmas and Yankee PC all in one card.

Shiny Aaron Judge for my rebuilt Judge PC.

2008 Topps Chrome Uncirculated Gold refractor /199

Those were just the freebies, now onto the trade portion which will kick off with some new Kerry Collins,
1995 Playoff Draft Pick

1995 Ultra Gold Medallion (these still look better than most parallels today)

Team Pinnacle Collins and Marino

1996 Upper Deck Silver Team Helmets

1995 Ultra Extra Gold Medallion

Phone Card from Assets.

And now the finale but first....

*takes a sip*

The trade had started when Jason noticed I was a Giants fan and had a few Saquon Barkley available,
2018 Gold Standard Newly Minted Triple Relic with some guy from Cleveland, Saquon and a solid wideout from Carolina.

And the final card......
2018 Leaf Limited autograph patch rookie Saquon Barkley.

Thanks again to Jason for the trade.

*takes a sip before finishing up today's post*

I have another big trade to post coming up soon.

Thoughts on my trade today and if you feel your trading has gone down this year so far.

Have a thankful Thursday.

Not At First Glance

*sits down on this sunny Sunday and get's ready for a new post on Cards Over Coffee. Let's dive on in shall we?*

My eyes aren't what they once used to be.

I guess aging is a part of that and probably using my phone and also reading fine print (DARN THOSE TOPPS SP CODES) has put the strain on them over the years. For a good portion of my life, I had 20/20 vision. Not anymore as I find myself having to wear glasses all of the time with astigmatism setting in. I can't stand glasses, but also refuse to put contacts in because I just can't picture putting my finger anywhere near my eyeball.

For the most part, with the glasses I can still see 20/20 but there are times I make an "old people" mistakes and miss something.

Like with my recent Oren mail day.

*takes a sip before moving onto the card portion of today's post*

With all of our trades we have done, Oren sends me a list of cards he is looking to send my way while I send him back a surprise. It has worked really well over the past year. In our latest trade, he sent some 2000 Topps Perennial All-Stars cards. These cards fell 1:18 packs and consisted of a set of 10. I already had a couple of them myself and was thinking about a set chase.

When the cards came in, I took my pictures for today's post then tossed them on my desk for the sorting procedure. When I went to take care of the cards a day or two later, I noticed something on these ones that were different than the ones I already had.

In fine print above each players name was a Limited Edition stamp. I hope you can see it on this Sammy Sosa.

I didn't know Topps had made a parallel to this insert set, now-a-days I would expect it but not in late 90's-early 2000's. Come to find out after some research, these inserts were seeded at one complete set per sealed Topps Limited factory set.  The card stock is also thicker along with the gold lettering and supposedly there were only ever 4000 sets were produced.

Each of the ones that Oren sent in this trade featured the stamp.

I assume this is still a 10-card set and now I will need to chase down both versions of the Ken Griffey Jr for my collection now that I know these exist.

Also in this trade were these cards,
Upper Deck Power Deck CD Barry Sanders

Fleer Tradition Zone of Juan Gonzalez

Upper Deck Extended Series rookie of Pius Suter. I can't turn down rookies, especially shiny ones. Oren knows this and his pushing of hockey cards to get me hooked continues!

And a 2021 Topps Allen&Ginter mini Derek Jeter. Not sure if I have this one or not.

Thanks again to Oren for the trade.

*takes a sip before finishing up today's post*

I know I must not be alone in missing things the first time around, especially in today's hobby where they are flooded with short prints and small writing.

In comments today, let me know if you knew about this parallel set or the cards in general. And if you missed any print on cards before (be honest!)

Have a great Sunday!
