Can't Stand Ya!

Maybe it was just a pre-2000's thing, but I always felt high school teachers came up with teasing names for some of their students.

I know I had one.

Mr. Angel who not only was my freshman football coach but he was also my gym teacher created the name Big Hoss relating me to a horse because of the way I "galloped" because of my height and size. So anytime he met me in the hallway or when I got into gym class I was always greeted with a "Big Hoss" whether I liked it or not.

I can't say if I did or didn't. I guess I must have meant something to him if I got a name I looked at it.

I assume with today's culture you can't create such names anymore.

When Nine Pockets blog, who creates some amazing customs, offered up a free custom to a reader, I chose to get a surprise Seinfeld one because why not.

When the card arrived last week the first thought that came to my mind was the Seinfeld episode The Library where George's gym teacher called/teased him "Can't Stand Ya!" using a play on words from his last name.

Even though this card image is from the episode The Understudy where George runs home and plows over Bette Midler. But the sports image is what made me think of that memory.

Back of the card. Go visit his blog and go buy yourself a custom!

Thanks again to Nine Pockets for another great mail day.

Did any of you have a high school gym teacher tease name? Let me know in comments even if it's embarrassing.

Have a great Friday!

Covid, Playing Cards and Yada Yada Yada

*grabs kleenex box and places on table*

*goes and gets coffee prepared and sits back down for another cards over coffee*

*takes a sip*

*blows nose, coughs some*

*takes another sip*

It's been a long couple of weeks as I am still dealing with some parts of Covid but things are finally starting to turn the corner as I am feeling a little better today.

*wipes nose*

Now that things are hopefully now turning in the right direction, I need to do some catching up on mail days I have received in this time frame and yada yada yada.

*coughs, gets up and washes hands, sits back down, takes a sip, continues to type*

One of the coolest additions that came in the mail was the latest introduction to my Seinfeld collection.
Seinfeld Playing Cards. I know these don't count as trading cards, but they still have the word cards in them.....right?

I can still play cards over coffee so it counts on here. Speaking of playing cards, my biggest memory with playing cards is playing War against my mom at 4 am before school while sipping on some coffee. Those were the days. It was a different time then, not sure any parents would give their under 10-year-old coffee now.

*takes a sip*

I got these cool cards as a Random Acts of Kindness from @ArcadeCouple on Twitter.

The cards with numbers in the set run the same way as a regular deck of cards, which was a bit disappointing, however, the special cards each feature a Seinfeld character.

Kramer is the Ace of the deck

King Jerry

Queen Elaine

Jack is no other than George

And finally, they are all Jokers and a bunch of yada yada yadas.

I wished the rest of the deck would had included episode scenes. How cool would that have been? I may have binder paged them all if they were like that.

Thanks again to @ArcadeCouple for sending me this. My collection and myself thanks you.

*wipes nose again*

*coughs slightly*

*gets up, washes hands and sits back down to take a sip before finishing up today's post*

I am hoping I can get some more new posts going on here now that I am hopefully feeling better. I am actually glad to had gotten my Vaccines as I can imagine this would have been a lot worse than it was. My nephew got hit really hard with it being unvaccinated.

Before I finish up, get vaccinated and wear your masks. I am not saying this for political reasons, but for health and medical reasons. Also, PLEASE make sure you stay home if you have any symptoms, so you don't infect others......like me. Curse you spreader who got me!!

Thoughts on my mail day welcomed in comments.

NO SOUP FOR YOU!!!

*sits down with laptop and today's card by the side. It's time for some cards over coffee*

"Will you hurry up Matt, I'm freezing my baguettes off" were my thoughts when I stepped outside momentarily this morning referencing Art from Christmas Vacation. The temperature currently sits at zero, but the wind chill factor brings it well below that. Today is more of a hot cup of cocoa with cards day. So today will feature Cards Over Cocoa. Don't worry, no name blog name incoming.

Another thing that comes to mind on a frigid day like today is a nice cup of hot soup. I am not a huge soup person, but the mood does strike occasionally, and I will have a bowl. I prefer Chicken Noodle, Cream Of Mushroom or Tomato when that mood comes.

*takes a sip of hot cocoa, doesn't quite hit like coffee, but warms you up*

Will I have some soup today? Probably not. I just inspected my cupboards, and I don't have any on hand, so I guess NO SOUP FOR YOU!!!

Have you heard that phrase before? I would be surprised if you said no especially if you were around in the 90's and watched Seinfeld. Heck, even today you hear and see that phrase through Memes, GIFs, etc whether you watched Seinfeld or not.
The episode features Larry Thomas as the "Soup Nazi" who runs a soup shop and is very temperamental, especially about the ordering procedure of his soups. Which is where he gets his nickname from.  If you didn't order the soup correctly, there would be NO SOUP FOR YOU! Which many of the Seinfeld characters found themselves apart of for different reasons.

I recently landed this autograph pretty cheap for my Seinfeld PC. This is one of the very few Seinfeld characters with an authentic autograph card. I am still surprised to this day that Jerry Seinfeld hasn't signed for anyone or that any company hasn't created a Seinfeld set. It feels like a loss to the hobby.

*begins to think about making some homemade soup, then realizes no ingredients are here and it's still too bitter to go outside. Still NO SOUP FOR YOU!*

Larry is best known for his role on Seinfeld, but he has also been in other movies and other television shows as well. The list is pretty lengthy, and I didn't realize it until I looked him up.

I hope to add more autographs from the show later on as I have my eye on a couple. At one point, I was close to a Jason Alexander but forgot to bid.

In comments today, let's hear your thoughts on my autograph, if you saw the Soup Nazi episode and what your favorite soup flavor is.

The Post About Nothing

*it's time for some cards, coffee and a whole lot of yada yada yada*

2020 was a difficult year for everyone as we had to deal with a pandemic, cataclysmic natural disasters, Godzilla, King Kong, Space Aliens and everything in-between. It was a year we will never forget.

I spent most of last year secluded at home unless I had to make a toilet paper run, yes that's a joke, reminiscing of better times and most of those memories brought me back to the 90's.

Oh the 90s, how I miss those times.

*takes a sip thinking back to when  a cup of coffee in the 90's would be enjoyed with mom or grandma*

One of the things that really heightened my 90's nostalgia was turning on some of the sitcoms from that era. I have been watching Everybody Loves Raymond, King Of Queens, That 70's Show (later 90's), Rosanne, Home Improvement, Friends, and one I never thought I would watch...Seinfeld.

*takes a sip*

Seinfeld, I would say, was probably one of the most liked comedies of the 90's-if not all-time. When it made its run in the 90's, I really didn't get the humor or why anyone could like it. I despised the show to its core and anyone who liked it. It's all I heard about, especially when the finale aired.

But, since 2020 was such a different year, I would give it a shot again and began to DVR the episodes. After watching a few, I found out what I had been missing out on pretty quickly.

Not only did I start to relate real life to some of the episodes, but it also gave me a look back at some nostalgic items.

Take this episode where Jerry meets a woman with similar interests of his. They both go to a grocery store together and I could immediately put myself there with them looking at the cereal options. One of my favorite cereals to eat was Rice Krispies Treats cereal. To be honest, was actually able to enjoy this treaty breakfast up until a few years ago when they must have pulled it from the market. I also spied and enjoyed Blueberry Morning before they changed the recipe and Waffle Crisp as well.

Seeing those brought me back to eating a bowl and watching Saturday Morning cartoons. Good times, good times.

*takes a sip begins to get to the card portion of today's cards over coffee post*

As my affection towards watching Seinfeld grew, I decided to turn to eBay to see if there was any cards from the show.

Surprisingly, no sets were made, but I did find a few custom cards and a couple of cards that Topps included in sets. I, of course, had to have them.

The first two cards came from 2019 Topps Garbage Pail Kids We Hate The 90's.

I found both variations on eBay but found them much cheaper on Burbank Sportcards Beckett Marketplace. I also saved 10% by using code 15Burbank at checkout. I suggest you try it out.

My next card was a tad more expensive, but I had some leftover birthday eBay gift card money and forked out the $10 to land it.

This card must be a short print as I don't see many listed. It's from 2011 Topps American Pie.

Back of card. I guess I didn't know that Seinfeld premiered in '89 as I thought it was strictly in the 90's. You learn something new everyday.

*takes a sip before finishing up today's post about nothing

I was disappointed by the amount of card love for Seinfeld as many other less popular shows landed on cardboard. Maybe someday, Leaf who does a lot of non sport cards will find a way to create a set specific for the show. I hope they capture both main characters and as many of the oddball ones they can. I do know they have an autograph of Larry Thomas who played the Soup Nazi on the show. That one is on my list.

If you were to ask me which Seinfeld episode I liked the best, I have an answer for you. I like them all equally. However, my favorite characters are George and Kramer as I am a little bit of both.

In comments, tell me your favorite 90's sitcom, your favorite Seinfeld episode, and your favorite 90's cereal that may not exist anymore.
