Unfinished Cup:1998 Playoff Contenders Leather

*takes a sip. gets ready for the first new post of the new month*

It's October and baseball is still on. But my focus is and always has been football. Not that I still don't root on the Yankees, but football is always my focus.

Which is why looking at all of my set needs, most are football related.

And speaking of those needs, here we are with a NEW Unfinished Cup.

*takes a sip*

Today's set is from the 1998 Contenders product which featured a variety of different base sets including, the base (with autographs), pennants and today's cards printed on leather.

Back in 1998, I was able to open a few packs of the product without a lot of success in pulling the top rookies of Peyton Manning and Randy Moss, but the leather football die cut cards really caught my eye and for years I wanted to chase the set. Now I am.

There are 100 cards in the set to chase. I have quite a few but still need quite a few more including the two big ones.

Here is what I have remaining,
18,20,21,23,30,31,33,35,37,48,52,53,69,70,71,72,73,74,78,80,81,82,84,85,86,87,89,90,91,93 and 99.

This set is at the top of the ones I want to complete, so I am hoping some of you out there will have some. If you do, please email me at sportcardcollectors@hotmail.com.

I hope everyone has a great Saturday and first day of October.

Thoughts on this set welcomed in comments.

The Funk

*a small pile of cards are nearby, laptop is open, cinnamon raisin bagel and coffee ready as well. it's time for some cards over coffee*

My internet is back finally, however, life has been crazy busy, so I haven't had a lot of time to do "card stuff" including blogging. Despite having sometime today to finally sit down and blog though, it is taking me a lot to do it. I have been feeling a little bit of funk with blogging and wanting to do it.

It's just so much work.

Uploading photos, downloading photos, then once again uploading said photos to the blog. Having to sit down and actually type up a post is about an hour. In all, it takes me roughly two hours to complete one post and to have some pictures ready for another post. That's a lot of time spent on something I don't get paid for and a lot of the times, barely get views on.

But here I am anyways spending some more of my spare time typing. I don't know why, but just felt led to do so today. Maybe it will free me from my funk but I mainly think it's because I havee mail days to catch up on and thank yous that are owed.

*takes a sip before moving on with the mail day post*

Despite the funk I have been in, the lack of internet and the busyness, I have gotten some pretty cool mail days the last few weeks.

One of those came from Blog Reader Oren who passed along some really appealing cards in our last trade.
If you have read this blog, you would know how much of a Fleer Metal fanatic I am. Even though the 1995 brand isn't nearly as cool as the later brands when it switched to Metal Universe, I still dig em.

This is another card from that set, but a parallel/insert called Silver Flasher of a flashy kind of thrower in Brett Favre. I remember watching an interview with his receivers where they were saying how hard and fast he threw and how much their hands hurt.

Speaking of Favre, this one isn't 90's, but cool designed Favre is always welcomed. I actually have a decent sized Brett collection. It's not even on purpose so now I just call it a side, side PC.

Inserts from the 90's, YES PLEASE! This is a 1995 Playoff Prime Fantasy Team that is acetate but has cool writing in the background.

1996 Laserview is a set I am chasing, I think this Neil O'Donnell is a new one towards it.

Same for these 1995 Stadium Club PowerSurge. What a cool card when you turn the card at certain angles.

Flair always had some nice looking inserts in the 90's

The iconic ZTeams of the 90's! I completed the 1996 version, just stared the 1995. I am now only two cards in haha. My hope is to complete the 1995 and 1997.

And finally, it's not often you can find new Giants cards for my collection, but when you do, it's from the 90's. Despite my love of that era and my Giants, for some reason other than Rodney Hampton, my overall collection lacks a lot of the combination of the two.

Thanks again to Oren for the Trade!

I am hoping to at least put another new post up for tomorrow for another mail day I haven't gotten around to posting yet.

I was also hopeful that today's post, as I forced myself through it, would maybe get me out of my funk a little but it hasn't. Maybe tomorrow's post I will find the inspiration to blog more again.

Let's hope.

Thoughts on my mail day and if you have ever hit the blogging funk welcomed in comments.

Stack Of Goods

*sits down, impressed after an hour was able to get internet to work again. the struggle is real*

*coffee has been ready, mediocre warm now at best, takes a sip and gets ready for a new post on Cards Over Coffee*

I must apologize to all of those I have recently gotten mail days from. The lack of great internet isn't helping me in getting caught up on mail day posts. So, those posts will come when I can get a connection, please be patient as your turn will come.

Now let's move onto one of those mail day posts today.

*takes a sip*

@JGfan24ever has been a long friend on Twitter and recently sent me a stack of goods.

And it was a solid stack for sure!

With it being such a big stack, I had to narrow it down to fit today's post frame. I decided to do one of those countdown posts that everyone enjoys (or doesn't).

I liked all of the cards obviously, but some were more favorites than others.

Here were my Top 5 favorite cards from this mail day.
#5 2021 Playoff Red Zone Aaron Robinson. There is a lot of pressure on Robinson who is going to be pushed into the starting role this season after the Giants cut James Bradberry.

#4 a trio of Yankees that features one of the leagues best hitter this year in Aaron Judge.

#3 is a new Ken Griffey Jr for my collection. I don't chase Griffey anymore with so much competition out there for him, but I still collect him when people send or trade him to me.

#2 combine my favorite Panini insert design of all-time with chrome finish and a silver refractor look with the leagues big hitter, you have a winner. What a card!

#1 @JGfan24ever had this card for sale for weeks and weeks, not a single bite but he knew I was interested so he sent it to me. I never watched the Catwoman movie as the reviews were really bad on it and I am also not one for spinoffs, but this still fits into my non sport/Batman PC.

Thanks again to Michael for this mail day! I need to hit you back with a suprise at some point.

*takes a sip before finishing up this post*

Some great card adds to my collection, but did I put them in the right order? Let me know in comments if any you would switch any of them. Your thoughts on the mail day in general would be welcomed in general.

Hope everyone has a great Friday and weekend.

It's November, Time For Christmas!

*gets ready with cup of coffee in hand for a new post on #CardsOverCoffee. Sits down, let's do this*

Just like with Cinderella, my pumpkin on October 31st at midnight turns into a Christmas tree.

As many know, I love Christmas. It's my favorite time of year. The music, the lights, the food, the family, the joy, the birth of Jesus, the giving, it's a pretty special time of the year. My celebration of the holiday always begins early as I slowly take down my fall decorations and replace them with Christmas ones. It's a month long lead up to December.

My wife and I are all done Christmas shopping as well, got done a few weeks ago actually, and we have begun to think about wrapping some of it up. But, for that to happen, it needs to have the right feeling.

You know...snow and Christmas music....and as you can see.....we got a little done. The snow didn't stay too long though, but it was fun to see. (remind me I said this in January when I am suffering with winter depression)

My wife also gave me an early Christmas present when we were getting gifts sorted out.
A new treasured shirt from my favorite all-time movie National Lampoon Christmas Vacation. One of the greatest lines from the movie. I am always up to adding new memorabilia from the movie whether it's cards, photos, shirts or Hallmark Ornaments.

*takes a sip, begins to show off some new Holiday Card additions*

Last year was the first time I took my passion for Christmas and combined it with cardboard. I aim for anything that is Christmas related such as the old Pro Set Santa's, Topps and Bowman Holiday Santa/Elf/etc bonus cards along with the Sp's (candy cane bats kinda thing) snowflake parallels and especially Santa Hat cards which are my favorite.

I had only ever seen Upper Deck and Panini produce Santa Hat relic cards up until today when I recently discovered that Playoff created a few.

Upon doing some research, I can't figure out how these cards got out to collectors hands. Maybe they were given to employees, maybe a hobby shop give away, not sure. But, I will say they are pretty cool and limited.

They are also huge. These are not normal card size, more like the size of a literal Christmas card.
So it filled up my lightbox. I like the the relics swatches on this one as it's the "fluffy" part of the Santa hat.

The dual relic only has 50 made of them.

This one is a quad relic with the usual red relics of the hat.

I found it odd that the quad is /100 but dual is /50. Unless the duals are considered to have "prime" relics. Who knows.

If you have any information on these cards, let me know in comments. Also, have any Christmas cards I may be interested in? Drop me an email!

*takes a sip before finishing up today's post*

I haven't decorated much yet this year, but I think this weekend may change things. I am still a little sick so that may put a damper on things. I also may try to push through as I need to get my lights in the ground before it freezes.

Hope everyone has a great Saturday.

In comments, are you a big Christmas fan? Put up decorations early? What's your favorite part about Christmas?
