Coffee Break:2022 Topps Clearly Authentic Baseball

*takes a sip. tries to think of what to eat for breakfast as supper was light last night...hmmm.....*

*takes another sip*

It's crazy to think that today is September 1st. What happened to summer??? Not that I am not ready for some cooler, less humid air but still. The thought of seeing leaves changing colors, temps dropping down into the 50s and 60s makes me cringe a little. I love fall, just not quite ready for it yet.

At least it's still baseball season, so that makes things still feel like summer.

And there are still baseball cards to. That's important as well.

Today's coffee break will feature a product I have always struggled to summer heat pulled from. Not sure if that will change today, but let's hope so.

Each box of 2022 Topps Clearly Authentic Baseball comes with one card. That card will be acetate, encased and signed. Boxes cost roughly $85 per.

Who in the sam hill is this?

This is the Red base rookie autograph parallel /50. Such a poor autograph as well.

There are 40 cards in the rookie autograph set and also the following parallel options, Green /99, Black /75, Red /50, Blue /25, Purple /10, Orange /5, and Gold 1/1.

The autographs also come in base veterans and inserts.

*takes a sip before finishing up today's post*

I am not sure how I ever feel about one-hit products especially since I have never hit well from them. I am more of a more cards kinda guy.

Acetate doesn't get used too much by Topps so I am okay with it being done this way.

This was a bad break though honestly. Just look at this as I saved you from pulling this so you can pull a bigger hit for yourself.

Thoughts on my break welcomed in comments.

*by the way, it was a cinnamon raisin bagel I chose to go with my next cup of coffee*

  1. Exactly why I steer away from these types of products. The risk/reward is just too great for my tastes. I have so many other holes to fill that I'd rather apply my money. And who is Curtis Terry??????

  2. Probably can make a trade to a Twins fan on Twitter...maybe.

  3. Oof, that's a rough break. One card boxes aren't for me and this is a prime example of why (and it could have been worse - you could've pulled a non-parallel version)!

  4. Curtis Terry has already been released by the Twins, never having played for them. It's a zero-year card! (He did play 13 games for Texas last season, amassing negative 0.7 WAR.) Ooof.

Yeah, I could never see myself paying $85 for one of those boxes. I do own one Clearly Authentic card--a Noah Syndergaard auto /75 which I bought as a redemption on eBay for $11.50. Buying a redemption is always a little risky, but the point is that I can get a card I'd be happy to pull from that box for a LOT less than the box costs. I guess there's some tiny chance I'd hit a 1/1 of a player I care about that I couldn't get at that price, but even then I'd probably rather go buy 5 or so different autos.

Hope next time you buy one of these things, you get that kind of magic pull!

  5. Autographed cards are really losing appeal if they all sign like Terry did. I think I'd take a chance at maybe half that price and hope I could trade away the card if I didn't like it, but you'll need a Twins fan going after everything to find a trade partner.

    Thanks for saving us!

  6. Thanks for biting the bullet so the rest of us aren't tempted to try it out! Too much risk and too pricey for me.
