I must apologize to all of those I have recently gotten mail days from. The lack of great internet isn't helping me in getting caught up on mail day posts. So, those posts will come when I can get a connection, please be patient as your turn will come.

Now let's move onto one of those mail day posts today.

@JGfan24ever has been a long friend on Twitter and recently sent me a stack of goods.

And it was a solid stack for sure!

With it being such a big stack, I had to narrow it down to fit today's post frame. I decided to do one of those countdown posts that everyone enjoys (or doesn't).

I liked all of the cards obviously, but some were more favorites than others.

Here were my Top 5 favorite cards from this mail day.

#5 2021 Playoff Red Zone Aaron Robinson. There is a lot of pressure on Robinson who is going to be pushed into the starting role this season after the Giants cut James Bradberry.

#4 a trio of Yankees that features one of the leagues best hitter this year in Aaron Judge.

#3 is a new Ken Griffey Jr for my collection. I don't chase Griffey anymore with so much competition out there for him, but I still collect him when people send or trade him to me.

#2 combine my favorite Panini insert design of all-time with chrome finish and a silver refractor look with the leagues big hitter, you have a winner. What a card!

#1 @JGfan24ever had this card for sale for weeks and weeks, not a single bite but he knew I was interested so he sent it to me. I never watched the Catwoman movie as the reviews were really bad on it and I am also not one for spinoffs, but this still fits into my non sport/Batman PC.

Thanks again to Michael for this mail day! I need to hit you back with a suprise at some point.

Slice Of American Pie:Facebook Founded

I am doing this post a day in advance since the internet is actually working, so I can pull off two posts in a row. Especially since I am a little backed up with cards.

I have a few mail days to post about, so I thought I would start with this one.

Recently I ran into some luck in my chase for the 2011 Topps American Pie set on eBay. 

I had been watching a few of the base cards I needed for the set and they ended for $1 each. Which was way cheaper than they normally end for. I saw that the seller also had others ending in a few days so I messaged them and said I would be happy to grab more of them for that price and he said let me know which ones. HOLY SMOKES!! So I grabbed the ones that normally end for a much higher price for the $1 each and I fit as many as I could for the small budget I was working with.

Including today's card, Facebook.

The Facebook rookie card normally can be found a few bucks more so I was excited to land it for the price I did.

 

I can't imagine sitting around with a few buddies and creating the monster that Facebook has grown into. I don't use Facebook a lot myself, but I do daily check-ins. I find it handy to stay in touch with family you don't see often. Other than that and sharing a bunch of funny memes, that's what Facebook is for me. I don't even bother with the hobby on there, it's an ugly place for it.

But, the idea and concept on Facebook was brilliant. It's probably how the creater Mark Zuckerberg became so rich so fast. I wished I had the mind to create something so simple that it just rolls in the money.

Coffee Break:2022 Panini Chronicles Draft Football Hobby Box

INTERNET!!! Well, at least this morning.

So, let's celebrate that with a cup of piping hot coffee and a box of cards to open.

Let's rip open one of the latest products from Panini to kick off the new season of football, 2022 Panini Chronicles Draft.

*takes a sip, gets ready to rip*

Every box of 2022 Panini Chronicles Draft Picks has 6 packs of 8 cards. Every box also has 4 hits to find for $170 per box. There should be three autographs and one relic card per box.

BASE:

There is a Chronicles base set (the Hutchinson), but there is also a total of 12 products included in Chronicles.  I call them all base sets, others may call them inserts. I just wished they were all included into one set and have them tiered.

Most of the sets are 2022 rookie class heavy, but there are some veterans mixed in as well including one Eli Manning I need to get cards of still.

Here are some of the other "base" set offerings. Most of them include 25 in each "base" set except Spectra that is 100 cards deep.

 

PARALLELS:

Each of the 12 sets has their own parallel offerings. Here are the ones I found in my break.

Recon has, 

Bronze, Pink, Red /149, Blue /99, Purple /49, Cracked Ice /11, Gold /10, Green Cracked Ice /6, and Platinum 1/1.

Blue /99

Phoenix has the following parallels,

Bronze, Pink, Silver, Red /149, Blue /99, Purple /49, Cracked Ice /11, Gold /10, Green Cracked Ice /6, and Gold Vinyl 1/1.

Blue /99. Guess it's a blue box. This card looks pretty cool and was one of my favorite cards from the break. He is also my favorite player from this draft that's not a Giant.

Optic has the following parallels,

Bronze, Holo, Pink, Red /149, Blue /99, Purple /49, Cracked Ice /11, Gold /10, Green Cracked Ice /6, and Gold Vinyl 1/1.

Holo Silver

Spectra has the following parallels,

Dan Marino Moxie relic card. Let's first say how cool this card looks. Second, what an odd relic swatch. Looks like a practice jersey penny relic. I want to hear your guys thoughts in comments.

My final thoughts on this product is what is always is when it comes to Chronicles, I like the concept, but I think it still needs tweaking. I prefer the base set be built up of the different products. Maybe not have different products with the same player checklist. Make one checklist of 200 cards, 100 veterans and 100 rookies. Use your 12 to 20 different product designs in that 200 card checklist and mix it up some.

Other than that, the parallels are fun and seeing more than just a basic design is as well.

The value in this break though was tough for the cost. Hopefully I saved the good hits for you guys.

Batman Forever Cards

*sits down at the table to get ready for today's post, takes a sip, and tries to get on with the post before the internet goes down again*

This has been a long couple of weeks with very, very spotty internet for both my mobile and WiFi. I am fortunate at the moment, after waiting half an hour for this post to call up, to be able to put up a new post. Yesterday's post was already in my drafts from last month or otherwise today would be the first post in some time.

Today's cards were acquired for my Batman collection awhile back. They were in my watchlist for some time before I finally pulled the trigger and landed them.

*takes a sip*

After watching Batman and Batman Returns, I couldn't wait until Batman Forever came out. Especially after how great Batman Returns was. Even though I was disappointed that Keaton chose not to reprise the role of Batman as he played that role top notch.

But, I would say that Val Kilmer who took over the Batman role, did it justice as well. 

Along with Kilmer, this movie had all the big names. Tommy Lee Jones, Jim Carrey, Nicole Kidman, and Chris O'Donnell that led the way.  Expectations were high for the film with so many names, however, after its release, many felt mixed on the film (despite all of the money it made) as I did myself.  I liked Jones (Two-Face) and Carrey (The Riddler) in their roles as the villains, but felt the movie felt more fake than the first two that had more of a realistic dark feel. This one was almost to the point of being too goofy at times.

I can't say it was all bad though as there were some cool parts and effects and a lot of bright colors. Not to mention it includes my favorite song of all-time, Kiss From A Rose by Seal. So that's worth the watch alone.

Even though the film wasn't a huge hit with me, I still collect Batman cards. I found these cheap and unique Promo cards from the movie and thought for less than $5, it was worth the add.

The promo cards arrived in this small waxy-feeling envelope. I assume that's how these were distributed. Not sure though on how they were handed out.

The full set is five cards, even though a lot of listings only show four and most of the time Batman is missing.

My next question is, are these rookies of these actors or were they seen on cardboard before this? Hmmm. Let me know in comments.

This movie ranks third place for me when it comes to ranking the early on Batman movies. It falls behind Batman Returns (1) and Batman '89 (2). It is however long and far ahead of Batman and Robin which may be the worst Batman movie of all-time. Having Clooney play Batman was an awful idea even though he has the "Bruce Wayne esque look".

I hope the internet starts to work soon. It's tough not being able to show off some of my recent adds and another new Blog Bat Around. However, I have been able to accomplish taking some pictures for future posts and getting some cards organized so not having internet hasn't been all that bad.

90's On The 9th:1998 Collectors Edge Masters Gold Redemption Matching Set

Welcome back to 90's On The 9th. A segment that comes back every month on the 9th day. 

Before reading on, I want you to put on your board shorts or plaid flannel skirt and sit down with your Orbitz and be ready for today's post in style.

Usually with these posts, I can research or already have information about a certain card or set I am discussing and post about it. Today's cards on the other hand, I have no idea on. But, I found them to be unique and maybe not something you see everyday. 

First off, I landed today's cards for $1 plus $1 shipping. That alone is worth posting about. Hall Of Fame running backs should not go for that price especially when they are numbered. This was a steal.

Two, both of these cards from this lot are NUMBERED to the same numbering. I can't recall any cards in my collection that have the same numbering at all. Especially being the same player and basically from the same card set.

Third, did I mention I got these for $1?

The only information that the seller posted was that these were called 1998 Collector's Edge Masters Gold Redemptions and that he pulled them out of his complete set. The seller also posted a picture of the box set that featured the same numbering as the cards.

 

Which was 341/500.

 

And as we already know, the second card was numbered the same.

One can only assume there was some form of redemption cards involved for these. Maybe it was the first card and then the second card is the redemption. Who knows? Maybe one of you do. 

Either way, these will be tucked away for now for safe keeping.

Falling at 1:24 packs, Top Crop is a fun looking insert that featured All-Star calibers players from the Eastern and Western Conferences on double-sided matrix shine. The U.S. map is featured on the players background for the East Coast and West Coast featured player.

Unfinished Cup:1996 Topps Gilt Edge

Some sets I post on here that I want to complete will make you scratch your heads, but, I have my reasons for wanting to do so. I promise.

The same promise I make to my coffee that I will finish the cup even if I get busy and it gets cold.

Now that I think about it, that's sort of like my set collecting. Even if I put a set down for many years, I still have to make the promise to the set that I will finish it.

1996 Topps Gilt Edge football was a one and done product. It seems collectors didn't really care too much for the design on these. Except when you are 13-year-old boy where the design really catches your attention.

The design features two different background designs. One has a wave background for NFC players featured in the 1996 Pro Bowl while the fire background features the AFC players in the 1996 Pro Bowl. Both base card designs feature a prominent tiki mask, which has to do with Hawaiian culture since the Pro Bowl was being played at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii at the time. I think it should had stayed there and that they should have kept the same rules. The Pro Bowl is one of the worst All-Star games out there now.

Not that I find any of the All-Star games exciting.

After a trade with my buddy Shane from Cheap Wax Wednesday fame, who knocked down 26 needs, all that I have left of the 90-card set for completion is,
