Unfinished Cup:1996 Zenith Noteworthy

I have so, so, so (times this by infinity) sets that I need to finish up.

There are some that are so close that I need to just finish so I can cross them off and move onto the next. But, instead, I end up adding more sets to that chase.

What is wrong with me?

While I wait for analysis on that question, I will show off another set that I need to finish that I am only a few cards away from completion on.

1996 Zenith was one of my favorite products to rip in the 90's. The inserts were stunning; the base cards were the best I have ever seen (this was before Spx hologram ones) and it felt like high quality all around.

With so much opening of it back then, I began to piece together some sets I wanted to chase including the base. I will post those numbers at some point. I finished up the 1996 Zenith Z-Team which was one of the best designed ones of the Z-Team run. Which now leads me to wanting to finish up the Noteworthy insert.

Noteworthy captured noteworthy performance numbers from the previous season. These inserts fell 1:12 packs and is an 18-card set.

I have officially narrowed it down to just four cards needed and here they are:
1996 Zenith Noteworthy
3,6,13,15

If any of you have these, please hit me up at sportcardcollectors@hotmail.com. Thanks in advance!

Hope everyone has a great Saturday and once again, thanks for any help.

Unfinished Cup:2024 Topps Update Mystical

My coffee is ready, my cards are and for the first time this year, so isn't an Unfinished Cup.

I have lots more to come in this series when I have time to get things all sorted.

But today we have this one because it was sitting around out in the open.

*takes a sip*

I don't do many newer sets anymore because creativity is gone, and I find myself collecting less new baseball especially. But, when I got one of these inserts, I could feel the 90's powering through.

Cool background design and it even sparkles in person. One of the coolest looking inserts I have seen in some time.

What I didn't know, was the size of this set. I was thinking maybe 15-20 in the set, nope. It's 50. 50 cards deep.

So far, I have acquired 20 of the set, but obviously still have a long way to go.

You can see what I need HERE. I have this spreadsheet up to date.

If you have any, drop a comment or email at sportcardcollectors@hotmail.com.

Thanks for taking time out today for my post!

Almost Burger Season

Well, that was another fast month. Still not fast enough when it comes to getting this kidney stent out, but still pretty fast.

*gets up to get coffee, comes back to laptop and takes a sip*

This month marked one of the biggest months this blog has ever seen. Views and comments were at all-time highs which makes me excited for the future of this blog after all of the work that I put in on here. I just hope the momentum continues every month after this one.

*takes a sip, tips the mug towards the screen as a thanks to all of you*

With February closing out today, this means one thing to me. It means that Spring is coming soon and spring for me means, getting my flowers prepped, garden ready, lawn cleaned up from winter debris and most importantly digging out my grill after it took the winter off.

There is nothing like that first smell of grilled food. I look like one of those cartoon characters floating through the air following the scent.

Just like when that morning brew first hits the air.

One of my first grilling choices is a burger. There is nothing like a grilled burger on a soft bun with all of the toppings. This is also why I will choose Burger King over McDonalds.

It's so good that Allen and Ginter included it in their Get That Bread insert.

So I am gonna brag, I own a Burger rookie card. Maybe in a few weeks I can get my burger to sign it 😉😉😉

*takes a sip before closing up today's post*

After February ends I usually am onto the countdown
to March 19th, my birthday. Sadly, I could care less for my birthday right now as my countdown is more focused on the 22nd where the stent will be coming out.

That to me would be the greatest gift right now. Let's hope I can get in before then anyways as I would like to enjoy my first burger painless.

Enjoy the last day of February and I pray you all come back for more Cards Over Coffee in March.

Hospital Coffee

2024 has been brutal for me.

First, I injured my shoulder which led to a broken bone and a bruised bone/rotator cuff. From there, it has been rolling down a cliff. My car got backed into, my uncle passed away, my septic backed into my house, everyone in my household has been sick and now the latest was yesterday's early morning visit to the ER.

On top of everything else, I was buckled in pain soon after waking up on my left side yesterday morning and knew that I had to go to the ER with a suspected kidney stone. Which was confirmed once I had blood work and a Catscan done. The stone is 5x3mm and most likely won't come out on its own. So, this most likely means a fun journey to having multiple surgeries to remove it. The first surgery is to put a stent in place that I will have to stay in for a week or two, then the second surgery will be to retrieve the stone and stent. I have had this procedure done the last six stones I have had. Only once I was I able to pass one.

This means there is a long road ahead. Along with the kidney stone finding on the Catscan, there was also an umbilical hernia spotted as well. That will most likely need to be fixed with surgery later on, I will need to discuss with my surgeon first.

I cannot countdown to the end of this year fast enough. I didn't expect it to kick off like this.

At least I have the hobby to fall back onto when I need an escape.....and coffee.

Like this latest Emmitt Smith add to my 1995 Zenith Z-Team set chase. This is now my fourth towards the seventeen-card set thanks to another trade with @levy2628.

If you have any I don't and want to PWE trade, let me know! Always up for trading. Here is my spreadsheet of needs HERE.

Hope everyone has a great Monday. I will hopefully have more cards to post about soon and more updates on my journey with my health.

90's On The 9th:1995-95 Fleer Metal Maximum Metal Hakeem Olajuwon

*sits down, coffee is ready and card is in hand, time for a new post on Cards Over Coffee*

Yes, I know, I know. If you looked at the calendar today and wondered if you took the DeLorean back in time, you did not. I am a day late and many dollars short on today's post.

*takes a sip*

Today's card for 90's On The 9th, or technically 90's on the 10th, I acquired this summer and never took a picture of it or shared it even on Twitter. So, it's fresh to your eyes if you are reading this today.

The choice for today is a basketball one and is from 1995-96. It comes from one of my favorite 90's products in Fleer Metal. Not that Upper Deck hasn't done a great job reviving the brand, but there is nothing like an original.

Maximum Metal was a 10-card insert set that fell 1:36 packs. Which is roughly one-per-more than one box.
It features a cool die-cut cut design of a silver basketball going through a silver rim with a colorful player in the forefront. Hakeem Olajuwon is my only copy of this insert in the set even though I have had my eyes on a Patrick Ewing for months and dream of the Michael Jordan one.

Card back has a write up on the player featured with a new picture of the player as well.

This was probably one of my cooler pickups for my 90's insert PC this year.

*takes a sip before finishing up today's post*

I know this segment doesn't get a lot of views and that I am a day late, but I enjoy going back and taking a look at these cards from my favorite era of collecting. I am also hoping some of you will post your own #90sOnThe9th on Social Media and your blogs. Let's make this a thing. Use the hashtag too!

Hope everyone has a great Friday!

Unfinished Cup:2022 Topps Chrome Heart Of The City

I have my coffee and I am ready for today's newest post.

I have been spending a lot of time trying to fill in set needs from sets I have started, but never finished. Though I haven't finished a lot of them, I have made some progress towards them.

One of those sets is 2022 Topps Chrome Heart Of The City.

These inserts fell 1:6 packs and features an impactful star player and the city he plays in.

I knew I wanted to chase the set once I added the Aaron Judge card to my PC. It looks spectacular and I like the design and idea for the set.

So, I added these ones as well,

But I am still 7 away from completing the 15-card set. One of the cards isn't featured because it hasn't arrived yet.

Here is what remains for my wants, the ones crossed out are obviously ones I already have.

HOC-1 Bryce Harper - Philadelphia Phillies
HOC-2 Miguel Cabrera - Detroit Tigers
HOC-3 Barry Larkin - Cincinnati Reds
HOC-4 Pete Alonso - New York Mets
HOC-5 Freddie Freeman - Atlanta Braves
HOC-6 Juan Soto - Washington Nationals
HOC-7 Jose Ramirez - Cleveland Guardians
HOC-8 Josh Hader - Milwaukee Brewers
HOC-9 Tim Anderson - Chicago White Sox
HOC-10 Whit Merrifield - Kansas City Royals
HOC-11 Matt Olson - Oakland Athletics
HOC-12 Max Muncy - Los Angeles Dodgers
HOC-13 Aaron Judge - New York Yankees
HOC-14 Jose Altuve - Houston Astros
HOC-15 Rafael Devers - Boston Red Sox

If any of you have any of my remaining needs, please let me know in comments!

Also in comments, let me know your thoughts on this set.

Hope your weekend goes great! Have an amazing Saturday.

Who Is Right?

Going to need a strong cup for today's post and luckily, I have one next to me.

If you were to see my eBay saved search list, you would see exactly what you would expect from me. 90's inserts, Rodney Hampton, Charles Way, non-sports, some oddballs and Eli Manning.

I check these searches multiple times a day and have caught some good deals in that process.

But, none better than this one I thought I had landed back in September of 2022.

At first glance, it appeared as a base Any Given Sunday insert of Eli Manning from 2022 Prestige. It was a card I needed and at the time the price was right.

As I clicked on the picture of the listing, I like to blow it up to see if there is any damage before I purchase, I started to notice something off to the side.

It was a 1/1 version of the card! Wowzers! My first Eli Manning 1/1 card and I landed it for under $10! To say the least, I felt like a kid being set free down the toy aisle at Walmart.

I couldn't even sleep that night. It was like I had caffeine in my coffee again. Boy, do I miss those days.

When I woke up still in disbelief of my purchase the next morning, I went to look at it again and that's when I saw this.

REFUNDED??!?!?! What?! Why?!! I didn't request this.

So, I messaged the seller.

Here was his response,

Keep in mind I use my wife's account for eBay which is why it is addressed to her.

Either way, I don't agree with his response, and I never replied because I may not have been friendly. So instead, I will post about them on here. I worked in retail for seven years and we were always told the customer was always right even when we marked something wrong. So, if they made an honest mistake, they should have stuck with it, learned from it, shipped it, and not refunded.

This is just my opinion on this. You guys may have different feelings about this, especially those of you who actually sell. I know if I made this mistake and sold cards on eBay, I would have shipped it. I have lost out on trades before when I made a mistake. But, I have learned from it.

Let me know in comments who is right. Is the buyer right in this situation? Is the seller right? What would you have done on either side of this situation?

Now I am all worked up again. I may need a second cup after this post and maybe a third when I read your replies.

Hope you are enjoying your day...I was until this post brought back this memory.

It Came To My House

*sits down, takes a sip on this rainy day. gets ready for a new cards over coffee*

There are some cards I see and automatically think, I need it. Most of those cards usually sit on my Top Want Lists for years and sometimes even years and years. But occasionally, when the card is affordable enough, I can grab it and keep one less card from being added to that list.

That was the case with today's card.

I am not even sure how I stumbled upon this card, it wasn't like I opened any Bowman Chrome this year or saw any cards from it.  I wasn't even looking up the player either despite collecting a few cards of him. It just popped up in one of my searches and there I knew I had to have it.

*takes a sip before showing off today's card*

There was just something eye pleasing about today's card that led to my purchase.
I am not sure if it's the font, the Martian/alien/IT things in the background or a combination of it all. It just looked really cool from a distance and even cooler in person.

This Jasson Dominguez card is from 2022 Bowman Chrome's It Came To The League insert set and features the upcoming hot rookies.

Overall it is a 15-card set that falls 1:12 packs.

Will this turn into another set chase? I am not sure. I am just glad to have the one I do for now.

*takes a sip before finishing up today's post*

In comments today, let me know if you have love at first sight with cards and either add it immediately or add it to a want list.

Also, speaking of want lists, check mine out above on the link I included just in case you have any kicking around :)

Hope you have a great day!

90's On The 9th: 1999 Pacific Paramount End Zone Net-Fusions Terrell Davis

*sits down, takes a bite of bagel, sip of coffee and prepares for another new post on Cards Over Coffee*

I don't know about you, but since I started this series, months have been flying by. Which isn't the greatest even though it does get us closer to Christmas.

However, it also ages us all faster and my daily body aches.

I guess it at least gets you to a new 90's On The 9th which I know you are excited about.

What does that also mean? It means it's time for me to showcase a new 90's card I have recently picked up. What can this mean for you? I invite you to do the same on your blog and social media as well. Let's make 90's On The 9th a thing.

I won't give up until you do!

*takes a sip*

Before I show off today's card, please finish recording your favorite song off the radio and take a sip of your Orbitz. I wouldn't want you to miss that song. We all know how long it takes before they play it again. Been there, done that.

*takes another sip*

Today's card was a unique insert for its time.

The insert features a swatch of faux endzone barrier netting and a player on the front. I thought at first these were made with the real netting,

but there is not guarantee or information that it is. Still a pretty cool insert and a very tough pull at 1:73 packs.

Thoughts on today's card welcomed in comments.

I hope to see some of you post your 90's On The 9th cards! Please use the hashtag, #90son9th when you post on Social Media. If you post on your blog, please add this blog into your post so more will join in.

Hope you all have a Wonderful Wednesday!

Needing A Distraction

*places cards on the table before grabbing coffee. i had to put cards over coffee for once...see what i did there? there were too many cards to hold, grabs mug, brews a cup, sits down, opens laptop and begins today's post*

It's almost been a week since I have posted on here.

Why? Well, a lot has happened since then. My wife's uncle passed away. Poor baby Ariella, my nephew's baby, passed away as well two weeks after being born.

Once again, if you can donate to their GoFundMe, now to help cover funeral expenses as well, you can do that here,

On top of that, I have been plain busy. Blogging gets put on the backburner because life comes first.

*deep sigh*

*takes a sip*

One thing that has kept me afloat during all of this has been getting cards in the mail. I haven't gotten a lot of mail days, but a few have flown in that have kept my mind occupied enough. Most of them were one or a few card mail days, but one of the biggest ones arrived from @mcfarm21 and I will cover it today.

*takes another sip, having trouble focusing on completing a post today. another sip, maybe that will help*

*nope. need to take a break. hopefully will finish this post later*

Why do I say partially cover the mail day? Well, he packed a lot into two packages and there is no way I can cover all of it. From NY Giants cards to 90's inserts to players I collect and even a magazine. It is an overwhelming number of items to post all of.

So, I just plan to tackle the main part of the trade which involves two players I collect in Kerry Collins and Terrell Davis.

*takes a sip before showing off today's cards*
Rick sent me a pretty decent sized stack of Kerry. He had more, but most of those I already had, and I don't take on dupes.

Once again, there were a lot of cards sent in this mail day especially for these two players so I am just going to break it down to my Top 5 favorites from that stack.
#5 Ultrabilities from 1995 Ultra which is Collins rookie year but also my first big year of collecting. Lots of fond memories.

#4 1996 Topps Underclassman has a little bit of shine, so that wins.

#3 1996 Upper Deck Hot Properties. Some guy named Troy Aikman is on the other side of this foil etched card. I just want to focus on the key player. I still need the gold version.

#2 1998 Flair Showcase base. It's 90's Flair Showcase, that says enough.

#1 is this Playoff Contenders Clash of Collins and Reggie White. I remember the Packers and Panthers battling it out a few times. I can't remember though who won the battles between Collins and White. A great looking card on top of this and die cut. Not one I have seen before.

Now that we have covered my Top 5 Kerry Collins, let's take a look at Terrell Davis.

But first...

*takes a sip, another sip, then dives in.*

If you think that stack of Kerry Collins was anything, the stack of Terrell Davis was nuts! There was at least 100 cards in there so narrowing it down to my Top 5 favorite ones wasn't easy. The number one card was an easy choice, but the rest, well, I could have done a Top 100 with.

#5 This Fleer Ultra 2 Minute Thrill. Shiny wins the day again.

#4 Collectors Edge Supreme Monday Knights. This guy definitely slayed a few dragon defenses back in his top years.

#3 1998 Stadium Club base. This may look like he is being tackled, but I bet he got away here. I love any card where the Patriots are being pushed around.

#2 1997 Upper Deck Star Crossed. It would be crazy not to put this insert in my Top 5.

And finally....drum roll...coffee mug tap....take a sip....
#1 1998 Skybox Premium Intimidation Nation. This card fell 1:360 packs and was the toughest insert to find in that product. It eluded me for years as I have always wanted to own one, now I do and it's also a PC player. Such a bonus!

Thanks goes out to Rick for the mail day. Hope to have something sent your way next week once everything hopefully settles down again.

*takes a sip before finishing up today's post*

Today's post featured a lot of great cards and believe me, there were many other great ones in that mail day. I hope to post some on my NY Giants card blog I am trying to revive at some point. If you don't follow it, please do.

As for my family, if you can't donate, please add us to your prayers. We can use all we can get. Thank you in advance.

Make sure also to tell someone you love them today. Sit down, have a cup of coffee or preferred drink (come on its gotta be coffee), and have a conversation. Or a text or a call. Simple, quick, has all of the meaning in the world to them. Not to mention how great it will sound hearing those words being reciprocated back to you.

Thoughts on my mail day welcomed in comments.

90's On The 9th:1996 Select Certified Thumbs Up Kerry Collins

*takes a sip. do you know that cards always go better with coffee? have you tried it? you should. takes sip, mmmm, tastes like victory*

It has been a long time since I posted something new in this series as the timing has never been right when I do. Well, this month, I am on at the right time so here we go.

As everyone knows, the 90's were the greatest time to be alive. It was also the greatest time to collect. There were so many great base card, subset and insert sets that I could make this series into a blog by itself....control yourself Matt...don't give yourself any ideas about attempting another blog.

*takes a sip, tries to focus on today's post*

Anyways, I occasionally will pick up an insert that I haven't seen before and add it to my collection. Most of the time I try to find players that matter to me and my collecting. Other times, I will just add them just to say I have a card of it.

Today's card is a PC player and 90's insert. Love it when that happens.

Time to show off a 1996 Select Certified Thumbs Up of my boy, Kerry Collins.

*takes another sip*

The Thumbs Up inserts feature a player on the front with a thumbprint in the background. These fell 1:41 packs. So roughly one every two boxes.

What I didn't realize was that the thumb print on the front is actually a reproduction of Kerry's actual thumbprint. What a unique insert. It states this info on the back of this card.

Kerry is card 4 of the 24-card set.

The only problem I have with adding a card like this is it makes me want to set chase it. So I may do just that.

*takes a sip before finishing up today's post*

I hope everyone enjoys this segment. I have some new 90's cards incoming for future posts of this segment that I found just as cool and exciting as todays.

Your thoughts on today's insert welcomed in comments.

Have a great Saturday.

Eating A Bowl Of Apple Jakes

*takes a sip. sits down to a bowl of cereal...yup you read it right. not a bagel. takes a bite of raisin bran, gets the ole bowels working, takes a sip and gets ready for a card about cereal*

I have seen a lot of cards in my lifetime. Many I wished I owned and some I do. Then there are others I haven't ever seen or discovered yet which is why I read card blogs and follow certain social media accounts knowing one of the days they will post something that would interest me.

When my buddy @90sNicheFBCard tweeted out a Brett Favre card that resembled a Frosted Flakes cereal box, I had to inquire what it was since I hadn't ever seen one.

Come to find out, it was a 2000 Pacific Prism Fortified With Stars and that it was a 10-card insert set that fell 1 in 97 packs.

I NNNNNNNNNNNNNEEEDED ONE!!

*takes a sip before moving on with the post*

The insert line featured a variety of cereals olays off from a player's name. There is Peerless Price Krispies, Tyrone Wheatleys, and Frosted PlaxicO's to name a few. All matched their specific cereal boxes.

*speaking of cereal, need to finish my bowl before I do more on this post. I LOATHE soggy cereal. It's like eating a banana with a brown spot on it. ripe banana and crunchy cereal only!*

*takes the final bite. moves on with post*

I wanted them all, but didn't have the funds, so I chose the cheapest one I could find at less than $4.
Apple Jakes! Featuring Jake "The Snake" Plummer.

Players facts and Try Them All!

Great looking insert and fun play on words. Right up my alley! Just ask my wife how many jokes I make about using play on words in songs, magazine articles, etc.

Thanks for the heads up on these Bryan. Now I must have the set!!!! The rest of you can go and hunt down Prizm while I chase these. Or even some guy named Tom Brady that came out of the base set, leave these inserts for me.

*takes a sip before finishing up today's post*

They sure don't make cards like they used to. Whether those were mid to late 90's inserts or the ones from the early 2000s like today. Creativity has gone down the drain and cards are just being pumped out to sell regardless of how they look because they know most will buy and not care as long as they can make money.

That's not me.

If any of you have these available for trade, hit me up at sportcardcollectors@hotmail.com. Always up for a good pwe trade and I have plenty of stamps right now.

*thinks the raisin bran is working so needs to end the post*

90's Cards Over Coffee:1996 Fleer Ultra Sensations Football 2-Pack Break

*nothing wrong with a cup of hot joe on a rainy day. takes a sip, sits down and gets ready for a new Cards Over Coffee post*

This post has been a long time coming.

Back in December, blog reader Oren sent me two packs of 1996 Fleer Ultra Sensations to open knowing my passion for cards from 1995-1999.

This is a product I opened back in the day, but only a few packs I bought from our local Mobile gas station. Which by the way, I think my Cards Over Coffee passion began because of that gas station. Every time we went there to pick up some packs, the scent of coffee would greet you when you opened the door to go in. It still brings those memories today when I go in there with the scent of coffee, except there are no longer cards.

*takes a sip and a sniff of the coffee before moving on with today's post*

Let's take a look at 1996 Fleer Ultra Sensations details before we open up these packs. It was a simple product with a foil bordered player focused base set totaling 100 cards. Each card was produced in five different foil border colors with each inserted at various ratios. The Rainbow foil was the most difficult of the group to pull with only 1% of the print run. I am still in desperate need of the Rodney Hampton version to finish my rainbow.

There were also a few inserts to chase as well that didn't feature all of the foil glimmer and glam.

The 10-card packs carried a suggested retail price of $2.49 at the time. Now I have seen some on eBay for around $5.

I originally was going to open one pack and keep one sealed like I have been doing with all of my 90's wax, but ended up opening both anyways since the temptation got to me.

*takes a sip, begins to rip*

PACK 1:
Base (nice Dave Brown find!)

Pewter (not the singer but I dig the old Ravens logo)

Marble Gold (Hall Of Famer find)

Blue finishes up the last three card in the pack.

Next up, Pack 2.

*first takes a sip, then begins to rip*

PACK 2
Base Cards (Andre Rison in a Jags uni is weird)

Marble Gold

Blue

Pewter (start of a Miller rainbow chase?)

And the final card...

Wait....what's this final card.....
1:12 Creative Chaos insert of Terrell Davis!! YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! New card for that side PC. It's just too bad it stuck a little and left some snow look on the card but it's not too bad.

Pack 2 was even better than Pack 1! Nice score on the insert which is also impressive for a two-pack break.

Thanks again to Oren for the pack to open.

*takes a sip before finishing up today's post*

This was a really fun time. I like opening packs that bring me back to the good ole days of the hobby. I spotted that Davis insert in the middle of the second pack but switched out some cards to make it the last card in the pack. That's what I used to do in those days so why not bring back that approach to make this even more enjoyable.

Thoughts on the product, my rip welcomed in comments.

Spiderman Skills

*takes a sip, listens to the cold wind howling outside and glad to not have to go anywhere today and be able to sit down and focus on a new Cards Over Coffee post. takes another sip and gets ready for today's latest installment*

I always wondered what it would be like to be a superhero. I would guess many have. Imagine having the skill set of Superman being the strong, having laser eyes, super speed and flying. Or having the  gadgets and smarts like Batman OR having Hulk's ability to super leap or his incredible strength OR what about Spiderman. Shooting webs to swing your way across a city and the ability to use your spider senses to know when something is wrong. The only problem I have with his powers is how he acquired them. The fact a spider, a radioactive one at that, has to be near you at all (not to mention bite you) may make his power not worth acquiring at all.

Spiders equal the phrase, "oh heck no".

*picks up mug to take a sip, makes sure there was no spider underneath the mug before getting it close to the mouth. safe for another day*

I may never be Spiderman, or any superhero at all, but I have watched some freakish athletes that would appear to have superhero abilities.

That's where I start to discuss the Superheroes insert from 1998 Skybox Dugout Axcess. It is a 10-card insert set that fell 1:20 packs. The cards feature an MLB player with their Marvel counterpart.

I bought a Hideo Nomo a few months ago just to see what the cards looked like up close, but deep in my heart the one I really wanted was the Ken Griffey Jr one. However, the price was a bit out of my range.

Thankfully I have some good friends in the hobby and my buddy @ShaneSalmonson was able to acquire one for our latest trade.

The card features Griffey with his Marvel Counterpart Spiderman.

As many of us who watched Griffey growing up can attest, he had Spiderman abilities in the outfield especially. He used his spider senses to know when a ball was coming and climbed the walls to get them.

I think there is so much talk in today's baseball about Mike Trout, that many forget the greatness that Griffey was. If he hadn't gotten hurt a few times, he would have broken every record.

Thanks again to Shane for today's card.

*picks up mug carefully again, no spider is going to get me today. takes a sip, puts mug back down to finish today's post*

As I was typing this, I began to think that maybe I do have a super power after all....

COFFEE BLOG MAN! The unstoppable power of drinking lots of coffee and blogging at the same time. How does that sound? Maybe I should acquire the ability to give you a cup to read this blog with as well. Thoughts on today's card or a superhero comparison you would make in baseball is welcomed in comments below. Also let me know if you are drinking coffee while you are reading this.

90's On The 9th:1997 Upper Deck Sp Special Fx Ken Griffey Jr

*it's been a crazy last few weeks with sister in law home along with the heat that she must have brought from Tennessee with her. It's so bad that sweat is sweating. But, that doesn't stop me from having a hot cup of coffee. Sits down with coffee and laptop. It's time for Cards Over Coffee*

It's a new 90's On The 9th post today. As you may have noticed, I skipped 80's on the 8th yesterday on purpose. Both of these segments don't bring a lot of views or comments so I am thinking about axing them depending on how this one does today.

Today's card features my all time favorite baseball player in Ken Griffey Jr. I haven't really added much Junior to my collection in the past year as my baseball card collecting has dropped off. But, something about today's card appeal hooked me back in.

*takes a sip, feeling a bit nostalgic thinking back to Griffey and his pursuit in the home run chases in the 90's*

Today's card was randomly inserted in packs of 1997 Sp at a rate of one in nine.

Special Fx feature a die cut design and a face hologram in the center of the card.

The back of the card has a small write up.

and at the right angle you can capture the hologram magic. Anyone who knows me knows my passion of hologram cards with my chase of all of the 90's Spx sets, inserts and parallels.

I am not sure if this will be a future set chase down the road or not. The checklist is deep with a 48 cards to chase. The odd thing about the set is that Card numbers 1-47 are from 1997 with card number 49 featuring the design from 1996. There is no card number 48. Kinda odd.

*takes a sip before closing*

I enjoyed adding a new Griffey to the collection since it had been awhile. Especially being a nice looking card. I may look to add some more Griffeys now that I have added this one.

As for this series, will today's Griffey card perk this segment back for July or will it run out of water? Only time will tell.
