90's On The 9th:1997 Donruss Preferred Chain Reaction Terrell Davis

It's Super Bowl Sunday!

I will be there tonight to watch and watch the commercials. If it's not already obvious, I am a Chiefs fan tonight. I don't want to see the Eagles nor Saquon celebrating.

Not really caring too much about the halftime show, I don't even know a song by Kendrick Lamar, so will probably skip that and get re-loaded up on snacks.

And coffee. Speaking of which I need a refill now.

*gets up, brews a cup, puts in creamer, goes back to sit*

Speaking of Super Bowl Sunday, I chose a Super Bowl champ to showcase for today's 90's On the 9th.

Terrell Davis is a two-time Super Bowl champ and Super Bowl XXXII MVP when he rushed for 157 yards and 3 touchdowns against the previous champion Packers.
There are no odds on how hard it is to pull a Chain Reaction, but they are printed on a die-cut, plastic card stock with some foil.

The back of the card is numbered 3000.

The insert is called Chain Reaction because each player has a superstar teammate to place side by side with it. They connect together.

*takes a sip before closing up today's post*

I hope all of you enjoy The Big Game....maybe with some coffee. Let me know in comments who you are cheering on and thoughts on today's card.

90's On The 9th: 1995 Pro Line Autograph Jeff Blake

You didn't think I would miss anything with the 90's did you?

Here is a late coffee-less edition of 90's On The 9th.

*yawns, but tries to get this accomplished*

Tonight, I am taking a trip back to 1995 and checking out the Pro Line Classic autographs. As I have said many times on here, 1995 was my big year in the hobby as I became deeply involved into it.

I was fortunate to open a good amount of this product in 1995 and even pulled my very first autograph card from it in Mike Mamula. The autographs fell one-per-box and there were over 120 to collect. I know this number because I am trying to do the impossible and chase this set myself. So far, I have roughly 25-30ish towards my chase.
Jeff Blake is one of my favorite adds so far.  He played for seven teams in his NFL career most notably with the Bengals. I think this card is considered his autograph rookie even though he played for the Jets prior to arriving to the Bengals.

I have always liked the card fronts for these autographs since they feature action photography and on card autographs. We don't see action photography autos anymore.

The back of the card features a small write up which is kind of lame, maybe this is where Panini gets it from :)

If you are curious on my chase or have some of these I don't, see my checklist HERE. Let me know in comments if you can help!

*yawns before finishing up tonight's post*

So far this segment has been disappointing in terms of views, comments and lack of interactions. I may not continue it much longer. But, if you would like to join in on the fun for 90's On The 9th to keep it going, there is still time. Just post a card on your blog or on social media tagging me and remember to use the hashtag #90son9th.

Hope everyone has a great night sleep. I am heading to bed now so I can wake up for some coffee.

*yawns again*

90's On The 9th: 1997 Leaf Fractal Matrix X-Axis Die-Cut Amani Toomer

Coffee is ready and so am I.

Not a lot of posts this month, but hopefully some incoming mail days will help.

*takes a sip*

For the first time this year, I am posting a #90sOn9th post. So far, this segment has been a little disappointing as I hoped this would turn into a monthly blog bat-around but also star on Twitter/X as well.

I am usually the only one who posts these.

That's okay though, I have no plans to stop and hopefully at some point others will join in and use the hashtag #90sOn9th.

*takes another sip*

Today, I am showing off a NY Giants card, something I normally only post on Big Blue Cardboard, but it was my most recent 90's card addition so it fits the segment.
1997 Leaf Fractal Matrix X-Axis Die-Cut fell in random packs of 1997 Leaf. This 200-card parallel set is a multi-micro-etched parallel set with a die-cut. Each player's card is featured in one unique die-cut version and there are 3 different die-cut parallels to chase in X,Y,Z. Each probably comes with their own rarity.

The X-Axis die-cut which is the Amani Toomer above features 100 cards with five of them gold, 20 silver, and 75 bronze.

Back of the card is the base look other than the die-cut.

*takes a sip before finishing up today's post*

I hope to see a few more of you start to join in on this fun monthly event. If not this month, next.

Remember to use the hashtag #90son9th.

Hope everyone has a great Saturday.

90's On The 9th:1994 TCM Santa Around The World Pack Break

*takes a sip, gets ready for today's 90's on the 9th*

16 DAYS TIL CHRISTMAS

I can't believe we are only 16 days til Christmas. Luckily for me, I am well prepared and all wrapped. It's go time baby!

Today I am doing my very first pack break in this segment while also doing the very first Christmas 90's On The 9th as well. Even though this segment lags when it comes to views and comments, I will continue it on for at least this month.

*takes a sip*

Last Christmas I was mailed, hold on a second you probably thought I was going to sing the Wham song right? Well, I was humming it but today isn't a singing or lyrical post.

I am strictly opening a pack of 1994 TCM Santa Around the World that I was mailed five packs of last Christmas by the legendary Wes.

Here is what the packs look like. I honestly am hoping for a Gold Foil Santa. How cool would that be?

Each pack comes with 8 cards. The cards have a green border with a mistletoe in the corner and a candy cane down one side.

The 72 card set covers late-19th Century to mid-20th Century Santa paintings from different parts of the world. Those parts include, USA, Holland, Asia, France, Germany, Switzerland, England, Belgium, Mexico, and Scandanavia.

Let's see how it goes,

While the fronts capture these paintings, the backs form a 70-card puzzle image of a Santa Bear.

Sorry for not picturing those.

No gold Santa in this pack, maybe the next one will as Wes sent along 5 packs. Maybe I will open one next year.

*takes a sip before finishing up today's post*

That was a fun break, especially looking at the different images painted and used on the cards.

Hope everyone reading this today has a great Saturday and weekend.

90's On The 9th:1995-95 Fleer Metal Maximum Metal Hakeem Olajuwon

*sits down, coffee is ready and card is in hand, time for a new post on Cards Over Coffee*

Yes, I know, I know. If you looked at the calendar today and wondered if you took the DeLorean back in time, you did not. I am a day late and many dollars short on today's post.

*takes a sip*

Today's card for 90's On The 9th, or technically 90's on the 10th, I acquired this summer and never took a picture of it or shared it even on Twitter. So, it's fresh to your eyes if you are reading this today.

The choice for today is a basketball one and is from 1995-96. It comes from one of my favorite 90's products in Fleer Metal. Not that Upper Deck hasn't done a great job reviving the brand, but there is nothing like an original.

Maximum Metal was a 10-card insert set that fell 1:36 packs. Which is roughly one-per-more than one box.
It features a cool die-cut cut design of a silver basketball going through a silver rim with a colorful player in the forefront. Hakeem Olajuwon is my only copy of this insert in the set even though I have had my eyes on a Patrick Ewing for months and dream of the Michael Jordan one.

Card back has a write up on the player featured with a new picture of the player as well.

This was probably one of my cooler pickups for my 90's insert PC this year.

*takes a sip before finishing up today's post*

I know this segment doesn't get a lot of views and that I am a day late, but I enjoy going back and taking a look at these cards from my favorite era of collecting. I am also hoping some of you will post your own #90sOnThe9th on Social Media and your blogs. Let's make this a thing. Use the hashtag too!

Hope everyone has a great Friday!

90's On The 9th:1995 Score Football AD Redeemed Card Steve Young

*sits down and turns on some Hootie And The Blowfish, it's 90's day on Cards Over Coffee*

1995 was a great year in my hobby life.

It was the first year I really started to dig deeper into collecting from when I started in 1993. I was also falling in love with sports more and moving away from childhood toys.

One of the products I opened the most and was able to find the easiest was 1995 Score football. It was a product that caught the attention of this 12-year-old at the time.

However, since I found most of my cards at the local grocery store, I never heard about a promotion that Score was running at the time.

I guess they made intentional errors for one of their Pinnacle print ads and gave away a foil Steve Young card for those who identified all of the errors. This contest ran throughout the 1995 and was the third part following two baseball versions.

I only recently discovered the card when someone posted it on Twitter via a @CardPurchaser thread for sale, overpriced of course. So, I did my research wanting this card and found out the background info on it and landed a copy for less than $2. That's my kind of pricing.

The card looks superb in person more than it did when I saw it on Twitter.

The card number is AD3 which stands for AD Three. Pretty easy to figure that out without using my Diagnosis Murder detective skills. (if you didn't get this 90's show reference, check it out)

It's always amazes me how Social Media and other blogs can help you discover cards you never knew existed and leads you to wanting. I still have a list I need to add of ones I need.

I am not sure if I will chase down the baseball versions of this promotion or not. One of the players I found was Alex Rodriguez from another 1995 Pinnacle product.

*takes a sip, turns on another song and gets ready to close out today's post*

I know this segment doesn't get a lot of views, but I enjoy going back and taking a look at these cards from my favorite era of collecting. I am also hoping some of you will post your own #90sOnThe9th on Social Media and your blogs. Let's make this a thing. Use the hashtag too!

Hope everyone has a great Monday.

90's On The 9th:1996-97 Finest Foundations Silver Refractor Patrick Ewing

*takes a sip, gets ready for a new post on Cards Over Coffee*

Welcome back to a NEW 90's On The 9th right here on Cards Over Coffee. I know this segment is very up and down in terms of views and comments on here but I have recently picked up some cheap and cool looking cards from my favorite era of collecting to you are stuck seeing them.

So, if this doesn't interest you, don't read on but make sure you at least have your coffee ready.

1996-97 Finest had different levels of base cards. There was the base bronze, Silver 1:4 packs and Gold which fell 1:24 packs. A fun and challenging set to build which is what I like.

Each level also had their own refractor levels as well. Today's card is a Silver Refractor which fell 1:48 packs which may not seem like much today, but was tough back then.

Which is why I was surprised to had landed it for under $5 from one of my favorite Knicks of the 90's.
The card looks superb especially in the light. This is actually the first one of these I own.

Back of the card.

It's by far one of my favorite Patrick Ewing cards in my collection now. I may have to see what other refractor cards of him are out there from the 90's.

Thoughts on my latest add, this segment as a whole or if you own any of these and of who welcomed in the comments.

Hope everyone has a great Wednesday.

90's On The 9th:1997 Revolution Ring Bearers Eddie George

*sits down with coffee in hand and gets ready for a new post on cards over coffee.*

*takes a sip*

Is it really the 9th of October? This is nuts. I can't remember any other year flying by as fast as this one.

But, since it is the 9th of a new month, we all know what that means, it's time for a new 90's On The 9th.

What does that mean? It means it's time for me to showcase a new 90's card I have recently picked up. What can this mean for you? I invite you to do the same on your blog and social media as well. Let's make 90's On The 9th a thing.

*takes a sip*

Before I show off today's card, please set down your 3D Doritos, Mello Yello and zip up your fanny pack. I wouldn't want you to spill anything or lose anything out of your fanny pack when you get excited about today's card.

The one I am showing off today, is one towards a set chase I am doing. Though I am a long way away, it's still fun to knock one down when you can when it's found cheap.

The 1997 Revolution Ring Bearers were not easy pulls. They were found 1:121 packs.

This Eddie George is the third one that I have towards the set. I also have Warrick Dunn and Mark Brunell.

Thoughts on today's card welcomed in comments.

I hope to see some of you post your 90's On The 9th cards! Please use the hashtag, #90son9th when you post on Social Media. If you post on your blog, please add this blog into your post so more will join in.

Hope you all have a Super Sunday! Watch some football.

The Segments On Here

*sits down, cardless for today's post. but not coffeeless. that would be a nightmare though not having cards to post about today is as well.*

*takes a sip*

*takes another sip, gets ready to type*

When I started up Cards Over Coffee two years ago, I didn't know the direction the blog would take. Unlike blogs I made of the past, I wasn't sure if this was going to be one of those blogs I had segments on. For the most part, my segments never get much traction despite my creativity with them. I went a little while on here before deciding that the usual posts needed some breaking up, so I created some coffee themed segments.

Over the past two years, I had quite the list of segments going on but recently had to narrow them down.

Here are the ones I am planning to keep in rotation,
  • 90's On The 9th (90's cards on the 9th of every month)
  • Slice Of American Pie (showcasing my 2011 Topps American Pie set chase)
  • Unfinished Cup (my set needs)
  • Coffee Break (any product I open, this will be cut way back with lack of product to open)
  • Coffee With (non sport autograph adds)
  • Would You Rather? (Matrix given choices)
Here are the ones I am retiring,
  • Monday Morning Cup (I may bring this back in a different form, this originally was my NY Giants Sunday game review with cards. But all Giants cards will be featured on Eli's Big Blue Crew unless it's something super special with a super backstory)
  • The Rodney Brew (above comment, also lack of Rodney's to post)
  • Giant Cup (same as above two comments)
  • 90's Cards Over Coffee (90's On The 9th has taken this spot)
  • 80's On The 8th (not really an 80's card collector so didn't fit what I do)
  • State Of The Hobby (this one ended)
  • Unfiltered Review (Coffee Break took this spot)
Some New Upcoming segments,
  • Finished Cup (already did my first post on this one. This will include sets I am finished)
  • Cafe Funko (my Funko collection)
As always, I like to hear from my readers on which segments you like or which ones you would like to see as we move into a new month. Comment below on this.

I also want to mention that I might have some fun stuff planned for Halloween and Christmas this year to post.

Hope everyone has an amazing Sunday. God Bless!

90's On The 9th:1996 Select Certified Thumbs Up Kerry Collins

*takes a sip. do you know that cards always go better with coffee? have you tried it? you should. takes sip, mmmm, tastes like victory*

It has been a long time since I posted something new in this series as the timing has never been right when I do. Well, this month, I am on at the right time so here we go.

As everyone knows, the 90's were the greatest time to be alive. It was also the greatest time to collect. There were so many great base card, subset and insert sets that I could make this series into a blog by itself....control yourself Matt...don't give yourself any ideas about attempting another blog.

*takes a sip, tries to focus on today's post*

Anyways, I occasionally will pick up an insert that I haven't seen before and add it to my collection. Most of the time I try to find players that matter to me and my collecting. Other times, I will just add them just to say I have a card of it.

Today's card is a PC player and 90's insert. Love it when that happens.

Time to show off a 1996 Select Certified Thumbs Up of my boy, Kerry Collins.

*takes another sip*

The Thumbs Up inserts feature a player on the front with a thumbprint in the background. These fell 1:41 packs. So roughly one every two boxes.

What I didn't realize was that the thumb print on the front is actually a reproduction of Kerry's actual thumbprint. What a unique insert. It states this info on the back of this card.

Kerry is card 4 of the 24-card set.

The only problem I have with adding a card like this is it makes me want to set chase it. So I may do just that.

*takes a sip before finishing up today's post*

I hope everyone enjoys this segment. I have some new 90's cards incoming for future posts of this segment that I found just as cool and exciting as todays.

Your thoughts on today's insert welcomed in comments.

Have a great Saturday.

90's On The 9th:1997 Upper Deck Sp Special Fx Ken Griffey Jr

*it's been a crazy last few weeks with sister in law home along with the heat that she must have brought from Tennessee with her. It's so bad that sweat is sweating. But, that doesn't stop me from having a hot cup of coffee. Sits down with coffee and laptop. It's time for Cards Over Coffee*

It's a new 90's On The 9th post today. As you may have noticed, I skipped 80's on the 8th yesterday on purpose. Both of these segments don't bring a lot of views or comments so I am thinking about axing them depending on how this one does today.

Today's card features my all time favorite baseball player in Ken Griffey Jr. I haven't really added much Junior to my collection in the past year as my baseball card collecting has dropped off. But, something about today's card appeal hooked me back in.

*takes a sip, feeling a bit nostalgic thinking back to Griffey and his pursuit in the home run chases in the 90's*

Today's card was randomly inserted in packs of 1997 Sp at a rate of one in nine.

Special Fx feature a die cut design and a face hologram in the center of the card.

The back of the card has a small write up.

and at the right angle you can capture the hologram magic. Anyone who knows me knows my passion of hologram cards with my chase of all of the 90's Spx sets, inserts and parallels.

I am not sure if this will be a future set chase down the road or not. The checklist is deep with a 48 cards to chase. The odd thing about the set is that Card numbers 1-47 are from 1997 with card number 49 featuring the design from 1996. There is no card number 48. Kinda odd.

*takes a sip before closing*

I enjoyed adding a new Griffey to the collection since it had been awhile. Especially being a nice looking card. I may look to add some more Griffeys now that I have added this one.

As for this series, will today's Griffey card perk this segment back for July or will it run out of water? Only time will tell.

90's On The 9th:1995 Playoff Unsung Heroes Michael Strahan

*even though yesterday was 80's On The 8th, I still forgot that today I would need a 90's card. Grabbed the quickest one I could get to, takes a picture, emails it, downloads it, uploads it. Brews some coffee and is ready to go. Time for some Cards Over Coffee*

Today I take you back to 1995, which I consider my first real year in the hobby despite collecting since 1993. It was also the beginning of a 5 year period which put out the best cards in the history of the hobby. If you don't agree, you're wrong......at least in my opinion.

Whether it was base or inserts, there was plenty eye appeal to go around.

Today's card was one of those that had plenty of eye appeal. I acquired it in a Twitter trade with @MaxxPower68 recently.

*takes a sip before continuing on*

1995 Playoff Unsung Heroes fell in random packs of Absolute.
I own other years of Unsung Heroes but none of the 1995 version until now. The front of the card sums up 90's funk on cards with its bold colors and fun designs.

On the back, is the design of the front minus the player.

The person who put the write up on the back of the card should be praised. They absolutely nailed Michael's future.

There are 28 cards overall in the full set with Michael being card 19.

*takes a sip before finishing up*

This is a fun card design, but it's not quite shiny enough to keep my attention of a full set chase. I am glad just to have the one Giant in the card set.

*thinking of more stuff I should add to these flashbacks of the 90's, Coffee Card Blogger Out*

90's On The 9th:1997 Revolution Ring Bearer Mark Brunell

*takes a sip of fresh coffee, I prefer to brew a cup just before I sit down to do my latest post and not let it sit around. Cold coffee is only good if it's iced coffee from Dunkin*

Yesterday was 80's On The 8th so today only made sense to have a 90's version of it.

Just like with the 80's on the 8th, every 9th of a month I will post a 90's card or card set and elaborate some information on it.

So let's check out today's card.

*takes a sip before the show off*

Today's card I grabbed very cheaply compared to most sales of these snagging it for only $4.

The 1997 Revolution Ring Bearers inserts were rare finds falling at 1:121 packs.

These cards are die cut into a championship ring and have foil and is embossing. There is also some laser cut technology around each of the "jewels" on the ring bringing this overall design together.

The back of the card talks about the featured player but doesn't possess the pizzazz the front of the card has. It's still a great looking card on the back as well.

There are 12 of these in the set and its a set I don't plan to chase as it could get very expensive.

*takes a sip as closes out today's post to publish*
